  1. Ives, has anybody really analyzed and explained the pedestrian play of CR7 on the national squad? The few answers I’ve read are speculative nonsense.

  2. Way off, Kevin.

  3. Chase,

I was just a messenger. To me it is madness what those fans were saying about Torres. He has missed some sitters today against Estonia but he is a fantastic player and I would think auto 1st choice.

  4. Yeah, I don’t think my heart could stand a 2 leg series with Argentina.

And God help us if England win the WC. The hype machine would go into overdrive. Admittedly, they have cruised in qualifying, but the press would take it to a new level if they won it all. Ugh.

  5. CHG – that would be madness. The shear anxiety of the players and fan bases would be enourmous.

That’s what I worry about for the U.S. – if we have to go to a playoff with Argentina (however likely/unlikely), I just don’t know how they’d perform in SA after exerting so much just to get there.

  6. Everyone pretty much assumed Russia would eventually fall off, but they are now a home win vs. Germany and a layup against Azerbaijan from winning the group and sending the Germans to a playoff.

I would love to see Germany-France for a spot in SA.

The whole exercise you propose is silly. I’m going to go out on a limb here and guess that you are a fan of some EPL side.

Just realized it was a year ago that I was in Spain watching Theo Walcott tear up the Croats.

  8. Bahrain tied up the match with Saudi and if they can hold on will go through to the playoff with New Zealand and the mighty Andrew Boyens.

Tiene que meter los goles Silva y Ces porque El “nene” no sabe hacerlo.

admittedly, these are people following the match on Marca so there is the potential that his Atletico connections are why they hate him so much, but otoh they seem more than happy to have Iniesta and Xavi in the side.

(Comments Translation: Torres stinks / can’t finish)

  10. So much for England losing their “Englishness”…sillly comment from Bilic. Wonder if it’ll ever hurt his chances of getting a job there with a quality club.

  11. Anyone in St. Louis wanting more than a beer on the couch should check out Amsterdam Bar in Tower Grove. Awesome soccer specific bar…and not an Irish pub that turns into a night club after the game starts.

  12. thanks… England ripping Croatia a new one… 3-0

the (every four years, pre-WC) talk of England being co-favorites to win it all, along with Brazil is about to begin…

  16. Big 2d on the Scotland – Netherlands match….Scotland could/should be up 2-3 goals at this point. Near miss in the box, shot off the bar, another off the post then the keeper made a great stop on the follow-up (which Miller really should have put away). On the other side, Robben had a breakaway he shot into the keeper’s chest, but that was the only really good opportunity I saw for the Dutchies. Fun game.

  17. just got the Scotland/Netherlands stream to come in as Scotland banged one off the post and then missed a point blank follow up chance. speakers were up way to loud to handle the crowd losing it’s mind, and now my ears are bleeding.
