  1. After watching him turn and toss off world class defenders (Capdevilla for one) I’d say he’s certainly got some great physical tools. You don’t have to be big and physical to make it in Europe, nor did I say you did, but as Drogba and Torres, and other have shown there’s certainly a place for a striker like that in some lineups. And you’re not REALLY comparing Rolfe, Twellman, and Wolff to Jozy, are you? They’re very different sorts of players, and considering Jozy has more national team goals than Twellman and almost as many as Wolff at age 19 with FAR less starts…yeah.

  2. How do you know he has the physical skills? You mean Chris Rolfe doesnt? Or Taylor Twellman? or Josh wolfe? You mean you have to be 6’2″ and 200lbs to play in europe? Since when? I dont think that is good for the game. Please post when barca, real Madrid, Arsenal, Roma, Juve, AC Milan have a 6’2 200lb world class player.

  3. Altidore is young and raw with the physical skills needed to excel in a top league, he just needs to develop. There was this other striker who seemed very similar at that age…Drog-something…

  4. Altidore will be riding the bench at Hull for the foreseeable future. He lacks the one-touch intricate pass required for play at this level. This speaks to the inherent bias (racism?) in the US player development selection process. His technique/tactics/movements are okay for youth level and somewhat for the MLS, he is otherwise a player with limited potential.

  5. I thought Dempsey looked sharp. I can only recall one bad giveaway. The rest of the game I thought he hustled more than usual and was active in the attack. He has 2 good looks. A header off a corner and the shot at the top of the box. Both wide. Oh well, he can’t buy a goal this season for some reason.

I thought Jozy was a little invisible except for his one effort on goal but I thought that was more impressive than any other attach Hull had all game. Completely self created. I don’t think he was brought on to win the game for them anyway. He was out there to get minutes and he showed he could hang with Hangaland who has been rumored to go to Arsenal, Villa, and City. So I say a success for him personally.

Hull will get better. With Geovanni and Bullard in the midfield they will get some wins. Hesselink, Hunt and Ghilas have looked decent in the Hull games I have seen. Losing Turner has turned the defense on it head a bit but I am sure someone will step up. If they do go down, they will go down fitting and Jozy will continue to get opportunities.

  6. advocat12: This guy is such a comedian!lol

Jozy is good enought to play for the USMNT, good enought for Villareal, and good enought to play in the best league in the world, but not good enought for you??!lol Classic! Sorry,.. I will stick with Villareal on this one!:)

  7. wow Hull looked terrible tonight. parked the bus in the first half and were completely hopeless in the second half. for jozy’s sake, i hope they aren’t always this terrible.

on the plus side, jozy’s “hold up play” is sure going to improve. bob will like that.

  8. Advocat, “His thinking is too slow. his soccer IQ is below average. He lacks the speed to make-up for that. He lacks the class first touch skill…”

Fill in the EPL striker advocat is describing, my choice,
    1. Bobby Zamora

  9. 10 million for Alitidore. Beyond absurd. He couldnt make the first team in Holland or Denmark. He will be riding the bench at Hull for a while. 10 million for a 2nd division player in Spain. Hull is playing this for a gimic. He simply does not have it at this level.

  10. advocat just so you know the guy running villareal at the time of jozy’s purchase is gone… he was chosen to run the new galactico project at madrid. not quite fired, would you agree?

  11. jozy got the closest shot for hull. my god hull looked bad though. no striker in the world could deal with the service jozy got tonight.

  12. Man, that was a boring game. The only reason i turned it on was to watch Dempsey and Altidore. What a rotten exhibition of soccer.

Jozy manufactured a nice shot on goal out of nothing, but that was about it. He’s going to wither on the vine playing on a team without a decent midfield. He needs to get out.

  13. Jozy had no chance to impact the game at all. Any time hull were threatening at speed, which is where Jozy can be dangerous, they applied the brakes and played hopeful balls into the area. Even a quality attacker like Geovani looks frustrated playing in that side.

I’ll admit to being excited when I heard about Jozy going to Hull. I thought surely on a team that lackluster that he would be able to rack up substantial minutes, but that looks to be going up in smoke. The manager who brought him in is going to be out before the season is done and we know how well that has gone for Yanks in the past… We just can’t win for losing with our young players overseas.

Dempsey on the other hand was pretty good and nearly set up a couple of goals, while nearly scoring a couple more. That shot he lashed was inches from hitting the post and from that angle would probably have gone in.

  14. Send Altidore to the French of Dutch leagues.

His game is too raw for La Liga. Hull’s midfield sucks so he’s not getting any service. He’s not the kind of forward who can create his own chances on a consistent basis.

  15. If the yellow submarine needs Altidore, they are in real trouble. 10 milliion$’s for Altidore? Some Spaniard is going to get fired.

  16. “Another Freddy Adu.

By this you mean someone who has already done more than Adu, and will continue to do more, aka nothing like Freddy Adu?

  17. Altidore just came from a second division Spanish team where he never saw the field. His thinking is too slow. his soccer IQ is below average. He lacks the speed to make-up for that. He lacks the class first touch skill. He will return to the second division at the end of the season. Another Freddy Adu.

  19. K-ATL, you do realize Jozy is on loan to Hull and is signed to Villareal right? So even if Hull is relegated, unless there is a signing clause in the loan clause, Jozy won’t go down with them.

  20. The only time Hull had anything resembling a fire last year was in the first quarter. Since then there’s not a worse team in the top flight. Last year was the definition of limping across the line. Only other teams’ incompetence kept their incompetence from destroying them.

  21. my apologies carl. K-ATL i do agree Dempsey is more talented than most of the rest on the USMNT but i think we see what happens when you combine great skill with energy and passion in landon donovan. dempsey doesn’t have the speed of landon so that skews judgment, but i still feel like landon’s work rate almost laps dempsey’s in some games. anyone hear what landon’s plans are in the winter transfer season?

  22. I think Portsmouth, Hull and B’ham are relegated this year. Hull just has no depth and they lack the fire they did last year. Will be interesting if they are relegated, as I would hope Jozy would be traded or loaned if they drop to the Championship. I disagree with the Dempsey detractors. I think he plays with good tempo and aggression, but he is just a much more technical and controlled player than many on the USMNT.

  23. Lousy game overall. Hull really is bad – every pass is back. Jozy didn’t have much opportunity to have an impact.

Makes me sad that the MLS season is ending – we’ll have to watch this second-rate league in the interim.

    😉
