MLS Matchday 32: Your Running Commentary

The last weekend of the Major League Soccer season is about to get underway and six teams are still alive for two remaining playoff spots.

Tonight's five matches will go a long way in determining which two teams will join the Columbus Crew and Chicago Fire in the Eastern Conference bracket of the MLS playoffs. The Colorado Rapids, Toronto FC, New England, FC Dallas, D.C. United and Real Salt Lake all have some hope of reaching the post-season, though only the Colorado Rapids are assured a playoff berth with a victory.

Here is my look at the final MLS weekend for, and here is a detailed breakdown from MLSNet's Steve Davis of every scenario.

Here is a rundown of tonight's matches:

7:30pm- Toronto FC at New York Red Bulls

8:30pm- D.C. United at Kansas City Wizards

9pm- Colorado Rapids at Real Salt Lake

10:30pm- FC Dallas at Seattle Sounders

10:30pm- San Jose Earthquakes at Los Angeles Galaxy

I am at Giants Stadium and will be covering tonight's Toronto FC-New York Red Bulls match (and providing a live commentary of the match). For the rest of tonight's matches, make this your place to discuss all the action. If you will be watching, share your thoughts, opinions and some play-by-play in the comments section below.

Enjoy the action.

  1. This playoff system seeding is stupid. If New England loses the playoff seeding is definitely unfair for the Western Conference Champions when the Western Conference was the better Conference. Instead Eastern Conference gets the benefit of not being as good because the bottom two teams from the Western Conference shift to the Eastern Conference. Los Angeles and Seattle who both have better records then Chicago have to play either Houston or Chivas who have the same record as Chicag0, instead Los Angeles and Seattle should be able to play Real Salt Lake or Colorado. More reasons to just switch to a single table.

  2. EAST:

    If New England wins:

    1. Columbus vs. 4. Real Salt Lake, 2. Chicago v. 3. New England

    If New England draws:

    1. Columbus vs. 4. New England, 2. Chicago vs. 3. Real Salt Lake

    If New England loses:

    1. Columbus vs. 4. Colorado, 2. Chicago vs. 3. Real Salt Lake

    If Houston wins:

    1. Los Angeles vs. 4. Chivas USA, 2. Houston vs. 3. Seattle

    If Chivas USA wins:

    1. Los Angeles vs. 4. Houston, 2. Chivas USA vs. 3. Seattle

If the game ends in a draw:

    1. Los Angeles vs. 4. Chivas USA, 2. Seattle vs. 3. Houston

  3. Just got home from the HDC where the Galaxy handled the Earthquakes… what a celebration. God I love going to the game.. even though I live 100 miles away from HDC…

A 3rd star for LA on it’s way!
