This weekend’s soccer on TV

It is a do-or-die weekend for some of the world's best players, and you will be able to watch most of it on TV.

Okay, so maybe you won't be able to watch most of it on TV, but with some help from your local soccer bar, as well as those reliable internet feeds, you should be able to see the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Thierry Henry as they try to keep their World Cup dreams alive.

The USA-Honduras World Cup qualifier is at the top of the list for American fans, but there is still plenty of other soccer to watch and follow. Along with qualifiers from around the world, there are also crucial MLS matches with major playoff implications.

  1. Zhirkov looks a bit out of sorts — it is clear to me he has not competitively played in a while. Russia had its moments, but they look a bit tentative coming out of their own half. Bystrov probably had the most success coming out on the left side against Boateng, but crossing had been poor.

Germany is very effective pressuring in the middle. 1 half to go.

  2. Russia has had some promising moments in the match, including the one clear cut chance, but Germany is starting to dominate possession and deserved their goal. Podolski looks excellent in more of a playmaking role…

Zhirkov also looks plenty fit out there, wonder if he ever going to get a game at Chelsea? Pretty expensive cover….

  4. It’s obvious to me watching Brazil U20s play over the past few games that the US team couldn’t shine their boots and deserve the early exit

“F—— hell. Got robbed at gunpoint in Tegucigalpa in broad daylight. I’m OK, but they took wallet/iPhone. Amateur hour from GW!”

“Talk about crazy extremes. Just got off the phone with the de facto president of Honduras. He apologized for the robbery. Talked soccer too.”

“De facto Honduras President Roberto Micheletti: “Honduras 4, USA 0! … The heart of the Hondurans is bigger than ever!””

  11. its better off that the usa game is not on tv. between all the college football action and mlb playoffs, the story will get buried. SO, lets enjoy our saturday and cross our fingers for ATLEAST a draw. then team usa will get more attention midweek vs. costa rica

  14. Ives, are you going to be running a commentary with the USA-Honduras game while keeping us updated on the Costa Rica-Trinidad and Tobago game as well? That match could be pretty influential if the cards fall correctly.

(SBI-I’m doing a live commentary for ESPN.com and will provide a link to that in a running commentary post on SBI.)
