Barcelona 1, Rubin Kazan 2

Debrecen 3, Fiorentina 4

Liverpool 1, Lyon 2

Inter Milan 2, Dynamo Kiev 2

Unirea Urziceni 4, Rangers 1

Sevilla 3, Stuttgart 1

——————

4:38pm– Heartbreak at Anfield as well as Lyon scored a 90th-minute game-winner to topple struggling Liverpool, 2-1.

A rough day for the English clubs as AZ Alkmaar scored a 90th minute equalizer to tie Arsenal, 1-1.

Those weren't the only 90th minute goals. Olympiakos scored a 90th-minute game-winner to knock off Standard Liege, 2-1.

——————

4:37pm- FINAL- Rubin Kazan 2, Barcelona 1. Rubin Kazan played a defensively disciplined match and finished two great chances to leave the Camp Nou with all three points.

——————

4:36pm– TOURE OFF THE RIGHT POST!!!!!!! WOW.

——————

4:33pm– Four minute of stoppage time for Barcelona to try and equalize.

——————

4:30pm– Rubin Kazan draw a free kick late and time is running out on the reigning Champions League winner.

——————

4:25pm– If you didn't know who Romanian champions Unirea Urziceni were before today, I think the 4-1 drubbing of Rangers AT Ibrox should send a message that the club is no pushover.

——————

4:22pm– Seydou Keita comes in for Rafael Marquez. We're in the 80th minute. Still 2-1 Rubin Kazan.

——————

4:21pmIbrahimovic OFF THE CROSSBAR

——————

4:18pm– Lyon has equalized at Anfield. Lyon 1, Liverpool 1 in the 74th minute.

——————

4:15pm- GOAL RUBIN KAZAN!!!!! So much for Barca finding a winner. Kazan with a beautiful goal, nice pass springs a fast run and Barcelona's defense looks very slow on the counter. Rubin Kazan 2, Barcelona 1.

——————

4:13pm– Ibrahimovic just blasted a free kick wide from 40 that was just a few feet wide. Barcelona looks good for a winner, but remain tied.

——————

4:08pm– Bojan Krkic comes in for Pedrito. Bojan has been out injured for a good while.

——————

4:05pm– Nightmare day for Rangers, now trailing Unirea Urziceni 3-1 after TWO own goals. Bruno was originally credited with the second goal, but instead it was called an own goal for Kyle Lafferty. Lee McCullough followed with his own own-goal in the 59th minute.

——————

3:59pm– For those who have missed it, Liverpool leads Lyon, 1-0, on a Yossi Benayoun goal in the 41st minute. Steven Gerrard started but was forced to come out in the 25th minute.

——————

3:57pm– Inter has equalized thanks to a Walter Samuel goal in the 47th minute. Inter 2, Dynamo Kiev 2.

——————

3:55pm– Unirea Urziceni takes a 2-1 lead on Rangers thanks to a goal from Bruno. No, not THAT Bruno.

——————

3:51pm– Will Barcelona blow this one open now?

——————

3:49pm- It DIDN'T TAKE LONG. GOAL BARCELONA!!! Ibrahimovic with a beautiful blast. He chests down a great pass, turns and hits one inside the far post. Great finish. Xavi with a laser of a long pass to find Ibrahimovic.

——————

3:47pm– We're back in the Barcelona-Rubin Kazan match. How long will it take for Barca to equalize?

——————

3:33pm– It is very rare to see Barcelona struggle so badly to break down an opponent but Rubin Kazan deserves credit for holding firm. That tie vs. Inter Milan was no fluke. Barcelona held a 69-31 edge in possession, but still couldn't put a goal in.

——————

3:32pm– In other action, Arsenal leads AZ Alkmaar, 1-0, at halftime on a Cesc Fabregas goal. Olympiakos and Standard Liege are tied, 1-1, in their match.

——————

3:31pm– HALFTIME- Rubin Kazan 1, Barcelona 0. Who saw that one coming?

——————

3:29pm– Wow, just when Inter gets back into its game, Lucio surrenders an own goal to give Dynamo Kiev a 2-1 lead in the 40th minute.

——————

3:26pm– Rangers squander a chance to take a lead after having a penalty kick saved.

——————

3:25pm– Fiorentina makes it 4-2 on a goal from Mario Santana in the 36th minute. Wow, what a goal-fest.

——————

3:23pm– Camargo scores to give Standard Liege a 1-0 lead on Olympiakos in Greece, 38th minute.

——————

3:21pm– Dejan Stankovic makes it 1-1 as Inter equalizes at home vs. Dynamo Kiev.

——————

3:17pm– Debrecen pull one back to make it 3-2 Fiorentina. Five goals in 28 minutes, not a bad clip.

——————

3:15pm– Sevilla has taken a 1-0 lead on Stuttgart on a Squillaci goal.

——————

3:13pm– Barcelona is knocking on the door, but Rubin Kazan is making clutch tackles. Barca could use Thierry Henry today (he's out injured).

——————

3:10pm– Barcelona has out-shot Rubin Kazan 8-1, but trail 1-0 on a beautiful goal.

——————

3:08pm– Barcelona is still looking for an equalizer. Pedrito with a header that forces a diving save in the 22nd minute.

——————

3:07pm– Adrian Mutu scores his second of the day as Fiorentina finds a third unanswered goal to take a 3-1 lead on Debrecen.

——————

2:58pm– If you are wondering, DaMarcus Beasley is in uniform but on the bench for Rangers in its match against Unirea Urziceni. Rangers leads 1-0 early.

——————

2:56pm– Gilardina scores in the 10th minute to give Fiorentina a 2-1 lead. Talk about an offensive display.

——————

2:54pm– Dynamo Kiev grab an early goal to lead Inter Milan, 1-0. Who would have pictured Barcelona and Inter trailing in their games in the first five minutes.

——————

2:53pm– Two goals in the first six minutes as Fiorentina and Debrecen are tied, 1-1.

——————

2:48pm– How will Barca respond? You don't see them trailing at home too often.

——————

2:46pm- GOAL RUBIN KAZAN. WOW. A blast from 30 yards out finds the top corner in the second minute. We have a game folks. Rubin Kazan 1, Barcelona 0.

——————

2:45pm– And we''re underway. I will be flipping  between games, starting with Barcelona-Rubin Kazan.

Barca nearly get a penalty in the opening seconds.

  1. Barcelona 4
    Dynamo Kiev 4
    Rubin Kazan 4
    Inter Milan 3

Kiev plays Inter and Barcelona at home. Inter visits Kiev and Barcelona. Barcelona travels to Kazan and Kiev.

Who would bet before the group play started that Rubin and Dynamo have a chance to go through?

    I love this game!

  2. exactly. The Braveheart league killed Beasley’s career…Edu could be the same. Then again, Edu plays a destroyer role and if you can do that in Scotland, hey…you can….well….play rugby. Stupid, embarrassing league.

  3. WOW! Rangers? They need to get out of the SPL in a hurry, I’d love to see them in MLS just so they could wind up bottom of the table!!

  4. Wow…the Inter/Barca group should be very interesting all the way through. I think Barcelona should bounce back, but Inter is in trouble with all these draws..makes me wish I had the ability to watch any of these games.

  5. Oh, and if this isn’t the final demonstration of the worthlessness of Scottish football, I don’t know what is. When even the Old [In]Firm is playing miserable football, that doesn’t say much for the rest of the league.

  6. The pundits really need to update their expectations. The red scouse is something of a joke this year. I think choking during the title chase last year broke their spirit as a team. Inter is laboring but they do find a way to get results. And then there’s the Barca thing. What was THAT about?

  7. These announcers are savaging Suazo and oohing over Shevchenko. Sheva blew more chances than Suazo today…they’re so biased against Mourinho’s side, it’s amazing.

  8. Ives – what do you do on days like this while working? I assume you have some Direct TV or cable package that allows you to watch all the games at will.

Are you just lounging around in PJ’s drinking a beer while doing so? A day in the life would be a good topic some day.

(SBI-I’m watching all the matches courtesy of DirecTV/Fox Soccer. It really is amazing that we can see so many matches live, and many in HD.)

  9. Too bad it’s impossible to predict in soccer, but it’d be cool if Direct TV had something similar to NFL Redzone where it could go live to goals. But in soccer it’d likely just have to be the world’s fastest SportsCenter since it’s near impossible to guarantee a scoring opportunity in the run of play.

  10. ives, do you think that beasley is ever going to regain enough form to be a mainstay on a team like rangers again and also play for the MNT?

  11. Wow, Liverpool are starting Martin Kelly at right back, along with Agger being preferred to Skrtel and Ngog rather than Babbel. Ballsy line up considering how badly they have struggled recently.
