U.S. Crest

The USA-Slovakia friendly scheduled for Nov. 14 in Slovakia that was first reported last Friday is now official, U.S. Soccer revealed on Monday.

The United States will play the Slovaks in Bratislava on Nov. 14. The kickoff time and television information have yet to be finalized.

Slovakia is one of two 2010 World Cup participants the United States will face next month. The Americans will play Denmark in Aarhus on Nov. 18.

Now that it is official, what you think of the Slovakia friendly? Thinking of making the trip to Europe to see these two friendlies? Which national team prospects are you hoping get looks in November?

  1. CSD, The Slovaks would be REALLY offended by your humor. After all, they split FROM the Czechs to have their own identity and still have a bit of an inferiority complex (kind of like the Austrians to the Germans). But I agree with you that this is a good match for us to work out some kinks and grow some. Maybe some new players can emerge.

  2. @DC Josh

Where did you find that deal. I can’t believe that until I see it. That’s cheaper than a direct flight to Europe alone.

  3. impressed with the choice of opponent, and I am expecting a team from Bob Bradley to win in Slovakia. With that being said, I also expect a win in Denmark. Bob Bradley choose your players wisely.

  4. that price sounds insane. Denmark is just about the most expensive country in the world. $900 would probably not cover a 5 star hotel for 3 nights. Flights are starting around $750 to Aarhus.

  5. Should be a decent game. I’m glad the Euro-Yanks won’t have to travel far. But Bratislava is darn near the worst city i’ve ever been to. It makes Des Moines look like San Fran. Bleak, boring, and absent of culture.

  6. to answer that question, you need only refer to the movie “Eurotrip.”

“welcome to Bratislava. is good you came in summer. in winter, it can get wery depressing.”

  7. I just hope winning doesn’t put me in the dog house with my Slovakian girlfriend.

Like others have said. Seems like we’ve been getting decent competition. The more we keep this up the less likely we are to be caught on the back heel like we did against the Czech Republic in our Cup opener in 2006. That was just too embarrassing. Would love to see us go up against Ghana or Ivory Coast and France or Germany.

  8. Call me silly for checking flight prices two weeks ago after the Denmark friendly was scheduled. If I remember correctly, it was around $900/person for flight and 5-star hotel for 3 nights.

I’m very happy the USSF is finding above-average competition. I think they need to play these teams to get better. There is a long time until their first group game and they need to be ready before they meet in camp weeks before they fly out to South Africa.

Hoping both games will be televised…

  9. you are correct, but it would still be a step in the right direction, its not an easy process to change nationalities and it would show commitment on the part of the United States to the player.

  10. Correct me if I’m wrong, but by capping someone in a friendly that doesn’t tie them to a country does it? I thought it was only FIFA tourneys that did such a thing with this new rule.

see example: J. Jones (3 international friendlies with Germany)

  11. I ran into Omar Gonzalez at The Killers show at the Hollywood Bowl last month. Super cool guy, really seems to have a good head on his shoulders.

I’d hate to see him pilfered by El Tri. Please Mr. B — cap him now.

Is Dolo Hispanic at all? A Cherundolo-Bocanegra-Gonzalez-Castillo backline would sound cool to me.

  12. pearce and klejstan should be called in. Both of those guys have been playing pretty well the last couple of weeks and i would like to see if they have completely turned things around enough to help the national team.

  13. I think Gonzo will be capped in January. As a galaxy fan I can see he has been one of our most solid players the entire year. With that being said, he needs to be more agressive and score more off of set pieces when he comes up from the back, he’s like 6’5

Viva Luis Gil, and Jack Mac,cmon U-17’s

  16. I like what the USA doing getting all this game setup before the world Cup. Slovakia, Denmark, Holland and other that will come. I hope we get to played an African Team and South America team like (Paraguay, Brazil, Argentina or Chile)who qualified to the World Cup. And is time that Bob Bradley give a chance to start players like (Torres,Castillo, Orozco, Omar Gonzales, Sean Franklin, Jermain Jones and many others.) and work on new tactical setup. By the way this is out the subject. But did anyone saw the game between Arsenal and West Ham United. The commentator of the Fox Sport for this game never n ever said the name of J. Spectors everytime he touch the ball. but he did mention that stupid Franco even tho that guy suck and look lost in the game. Anyway something to talk about and I just can believe that jerk never mention his name.
