You may have noticed a different layout to the SBI comments section. We have launched a new look and set-up that will allow readers to not only respond directly to other reader's comments, but to also personalize their comments with icons.
What do you think of the new look and feel? Love it? Hate it? Want the old format back?
Let us know what you think of the new comments format in the comments section below.
Complete disaster. 90% of the time, I read the site on my blackberry and none of the comments are showing up with the new format!
Like the custom pics
They are great if everyone personalizes theirs. They make it easier to look for a comment from someone you know.
I agree or at least just a thumbs up/down without the bump. There are numerous times this could help show people how seriously others take their posts. By the way I vote for ditching the icons, as they’re just a waste of space.
I like the personal touch !!
Love It! Our arguments stay together so you can read all the replys without skimming through pages of comments.
It’s good.
i’d like to see a “subscribe to follow up comments” feature. that would encourage more conversation/debate. Disqus (free) is a great tool for that:
http://disqus.com/
no need for the icons. They just get in the way.
The icons are too big, reducing the amount of text per line. An ideal upgrade would be a “digg” function so that readers can bump their favorite comments to the top. This would also make the comments section more substantive…rather than having 500 comments of “What a game”…There would be one such comment ranked first, and followed by new, unique comments.
Very nice – I like it!
Naw, I get tired of yelling across thirty posts, “Hey jerk! Down here!”
If you were feeling waves of emotion, by the way, I’d worry about you…
Looks like a Spirograph in here.

I like the pretty colored boxes. WWWEEE!!!

Couldn’t get the comments section to appear on my Blackberry. Anyone else have the same issue, or is it my phone?
I do like that you can edit your post even after posting it.
can do without the avators, the page is already narrow as is… however, my biggest gripe has always been that you have to create your own post to reply to someone else. since thats fixed now i like it but i wouldn’t necessarily say i love the changes. step in the right direction though Ives <3
Hey Ives, I know this is a little late for the Oct “questions answered,” but I was wondering, what are the chances of getting players on the level of Danny Murphy in the US for non-DP-level salaries? Would that make any financial sense for that type of player?
i think its a good idea, but the formatting is really messed up for my browser.
if there is some way to make the icons smaller and maybe the names in Bold text without messing up the right margin, id keep it. if no, then ditch it.
I’d ditch the icons…
I like the comments on others posts part but don’t know how to post my own icon.
Its different, might be to early to make a decision on if i like it.
Threaded comments are good in theory. But users will find frustrations with them — including the fact that reading the latest comments means scanning the entire thread again (rather than just the bottom) to try spotting new submissions nestled into threads.
Well done Ives……
I don’t mind it too much but the site is to compact in the middle column for huge icons.
Reply to individual posts = good
Icons = too large and too distracting
same as above. Easier to read, but seems to make text blocks even narrower, making comments more vertical than they already were.
And yeah, the indenting wastes a lot of space too. Those people who write monster comments are going to take up so much space now that we’ll be scrolling more than reading. Threading has pros and cons – it’s easier to reply to individual comments now, but long conversations with multiple threads are not going to be any easier to read
it’s on the right track. I haven’t yet seen what happens at the bottom of a long page–in the past, we have to click next a thousand times–I would like to have Pages 1, 2, 3, 4 etc to click or “next” or “last” etc.
BUt it IS very nice to be able to directly reply.
I am wondering how I get my own picture/icon on this.
Not bad, but the narrowness of the site makes the icons look really big. I feel like it will make long load times for when there are a lot of comments.
The icons are too big. Makes the comments too spaced out
Like that we can respond directly to someone now.
I like threaded replies for sure! I’d go with smaller icons perhaps, but that’s really the only quibble I have at the moment.
So where do I grab an icon?
Haha. I mean I get it, just don’t feel a wave of emotion one way or the other. I guess I’m a debbie downer, as always.
This is like replacing Beasley with Holden. Approved!
I like it.
Threaded replies are a lot better.
Never mind… I figured it out! WOW!
(SBI-Care to tell everyone how you added your own logo?)
The problem is that by replying to specific posts you are going to have lots more arguements and back and forth snarking.
This is the big difference – now I can disagree with your right next to you!
Ives…The avatars look like they are from the old Spriograph game I used to play in the 60s! How do we upload our own images?
How does one go about changing their icon?
Seems like an improvement, now we can put a face to the anons and respond directly.
the avatars take up alot of room.
No complaints here now or before.
The column is already very narrow. The icons and indenting take up too much space making the text even more narrow. Too much scrolling…. Count me in as a hater.
I like it because it’s easier to read the comments. They’re separated better.
Is it different, I see pics, but that is it.
I don’t get the love or the hate, it’s pretty much the same with minor changes.
Feels more like a message board now, which is a good thing.
