What’s your take on the new SBI comments section?

You may have noticed a different layout to the SBI comments section. We have launched a new look and set-up that will allow readers to not only respond directly to other reader's comments, but to also personalize their comments with icons.

What do you think of the new look and feel? Love it? Hate it? Want the old format back?

Let us know what you think of the new comments format in the comments section below.

  1. Complete disaster. 90% of the time, I read the site on my blackberry and none of the comments are showing up with the new format!

  2. I agree or at least just a thumbs up/down without the bump. There are numerous times this could help show people how seriously others take their posts. By the way I vote for ditching the icons, as they’re just a waste of space.

  3. The icons are too big, reducing the amount of text per line. An ideal upgrade would be a “digg” function so that readers can bump their favorite comments to the top. This would also make the comments section more substantive…rather than having 500 comments of “What a game”…There would be one such comment ranked first, and followed by new, unique comments.

  4. Naw, I get tired of yelling across thirty posts, “Hey jerk! Down here!”

If you were feeling waves of emotion, by the way, I’d worry about you…

  5. Couldn’t get the comments section to appear on my Blackberry. Anyone else have the same issue, or is it my phone?

I do like that you can edit your post even after posting it.

  6. can do without the avators, the page is already narrow as is… however, my biggest gripe has always been that you have to create your own post to reply to someone else. since thats fixed now i like it but i wouldn’t necessarily say i love the changes. step in the right direction though Ives <3

  7. Hey Ives, I know this is a little late for the Oct “questions answered,” but I was wondering, what are the chances of getting players on the level of Danny Murphy in the US for non-DP-level salaries? Would that make any financial sense for that type of player?

  8. i think its a good idea, but the formatting is really messed up for my browser.

if there is some way to make the icons smaller and maybe the names in Bold text without messing up the right margin, id keep it. if no, then ditch it.

  9. Threaded comments are good in theory. But users will find frustrations with them — including the fact that reading the latest comments means scanning the entire thread again (rather than just the bottom) to try spotting new submissions nestled into threads.

  10. And yeah, the indenting wastes a lot of space too. Those people who write monster comments are going to take up so much space now that we’ll be scrolling more than reading. Threading has pros and cons – it’s easier to reply to individual comments now, but long conversations with multiple threads are not going to be any easier to read

  11. it’s on the right track. I haven’t yet seen what happens at the bottom of a long page–in the past, we have to click next a thousand times–I would like to have Pages 1, 2, 3, 4 etc to click or “next” or “last” etc.

BUt it IS very nice to be able to directly reply.

I am wondering how I get my own picture/icon on this.

  12. The column is already very narrow. The icons and indenting take up too much space making the text even more narrow. Too much scrolling…. Count me in as a hater.
