Some two weeks after being released from a Washington D.C. hospital where he spent a month recovering from a deadly car accident, U.S. national team forward Charlie Davies has moved his rehabilitating to Delaware, where doctors have labeled his progress "fantastic".
According to the FC Sochaux's club website, Davies is making progress on the numerous injuries he suffered in a deadly car accident that took the life of one passenger on Oct. 13. Davies is rehabbing under the supervision of U.S. Soccer's head rehabilitation trainer Jim Hashimoto.
Davies isn't the only U.S. national team player rehabilitating in Delaware. Oguchi Onyewu is with Davies, rehabbing the torn patella tendon he suffered in the U.S. team's final World Cup qualifier against Costa Rica on Oct. 14.
How happy are you to hear that Davies is progressing well? Starting to believe that Davies will return to the field sooner than expected? Looking forward to Onyewu's return to the U.S. team?

“Certaily not at the level required by the national team.”
conor casey thats all im gonns say
Did your friend break his femur?
That’s not what Johnny’s saying, and you know it.
*Have* you watch Jose play for Pachuca? He’s good, real good. There’s a good reason many of us want to see him get a legit shot on the team.
I would love to hear the story behind this.
He Broke his leg!! It was a clean break… My friend broke his leg had a rod placed in it and was running around again after three months of rehab. And he is in no means an athlete, its your ligaments that could end your career not your bones. I mean no offense but you guys are talking like he had a crushed pelvis and they had to reconstruct the thing, if this was 08 and not 09 none of us would be worried about him being ready for the world cup, I think depending on how his body reacts to the PT he could damn well be on that flight ready to play.
why can’t we just all appreciate ALL our players, and stop bashin ppl for being fans of a player
What does fantastic mean, exactly? There aren’t really any details provided (other than old news) with this post other than his recovery so far has been ‘fantastic.’
There’s no need for Charlie to rush his recovery. He won’t be in South Africa so he might as well take his time to fully recover rather than rush and have set-backs.
Do you have inside information? Are you a doctor? Are you one of *his* doctors?
Good news, whether he makes it back to the US mens national team or not.
I am very sorry to say this, but it is unlikely he will play again. Certaily not at the level required by the national team.
Fantastic!
With all well wishes for just his life included, Davies was going to be our biggest threat this summer at SA2010. ALl the LD fanboys need to pull their heads out of their butts and realize that Davies was the addition to our side that made it dangerous. W/o him, we have reverted to our unfortunate brand of kickball football and it is not going to get us out of the group stage come Cup time.
I am happy that he is able to begin this process. If he is able to have a normal life than everything else is gravy.
Do I hope he returns 100% – Yes! But again more important is his quality of life.
Keep the info coming Ives!!!!
omg hes latino….put him in!
First time a question / request has ever been answered on this site. Thanks Ives!!!
Get well soon ChuckD & Gooch!
Hash is the best – fixed me up twice – CD and Gooch are in great hands.
Agreed Chris. I think we both would say just being healthy for a normal life is the most important thing but I would imagine that soccer is crucial to Charlie both for a livelihood and to just be happy. Hard to one day be competing in the thing you love and one day have that taken away. Hope he’ll be back soon
maybe US Soccer just feels a bit obligated to charlie, not to mention there’s a bit of a downtime in terms of national team play. I wouldnt read too much into Hashimoto helping charlie out right now.
Gooch throws a long throw-in to Charlie Davies. Davies turns the Algerian goalkeeper the wrong way and blasts the ball in the net for the game winner in the 1st game of the 2010 WC for the USA! Get well soon Gooch and CD9… I want this prediction to come true!
If “Fantastic” meant he’ll be able to lead a normal life type of fantastic, you wouldnt have the USMNT head trainer down there working with him. He’d have some staffer cheering him on. Jim Hash is gonna whip that boy into shape.
What great news. Ives, any news you get of him, please post, I check on google news once a day but never hear anything.
Good luck in your recovery Charlie! Don’t rush it though, we want you back healthy, whenever that is.
This is good news.. I think Davies in the pool for 14′ is the peak of our hopes.
It is strange that in this day and age where every bit of news surfaces that we’ve heard so little on this..
Lastly to temper expectations a friend of mine broke both legs above the knee in a car crash in May. He’s just now off pain meds and able to walk ‘comfortably’ but can’t run yet.
Thrilled! Absolutely thrilled for Charlie! Can’t wait to see him on the field again when he’s ready!
get well soon charlie! and Gooch! good to hear they have each others company.
“Happy to hear Davies is progressing well?”
are you serious?
um…
what?
Very glad Davies is progressing. I still believe the U.S. has the ability to get out of their group and surprise some people in the knockout stages- like they did in the Confederations Cup.
Michael, let’s keep in mind that to Davies soccer is his job his livelyhood, so in someways it is important. Yes it’s a miracle he survived and is recovering quickly, but if you were seriously injured in a car accident and were told you were no longer able to do your job, you’d be pretty devastated.
Huh? Are you 12?
So good to hear that he’s with Gooch.
“Soccer is not that important in the grand scheme of things”
maybe to him it is
This is fantastic news. Does anyone know if there are any plans to film a documentary about his recovery? It would make an inspiring, moving film, and would be great to see his recovery first-hand.
Regardless, I never lost faith he would come back, but more importantly live a normal life. Great news to wake up to.
Glad to hear it! Here’s to continued progress and support ot both Charlie and Gooch, kinda nice that have each other to keep each other motivated.
Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving.
Great to hear that Davies is responding well to rehab. I’ll be happy if he can resume a normal life, but if he can return to playing at a high level that’d be amazing.
Who else would you put there? Have you watched him play for his club team? He needs a shot to show what he has.
F*** yeah Davies. You are a monster. Keep it up Davies. You have massive undying support behind you.
The important thing is that he is alive and well. Charlie being able to play soccer again is even better news. Charlie being able to be in the world cup even off the bench would be amazing and a blessing.
Constant viewer, first-time poster: Thanks for keeping us updated, Ives. This is great news. We’re keeping CD9 in our thoughts.
Maybe it’s that it’s none of your business.
Glad to hear ANYTHING. News has been hard to come by.
I’m sure many would like to hear weekly or even periodic updates on how he’s doing with more details. Fantastic is a very relative description and could mean almost anything. I’m sure many (me included) would like to hear more details on both CD and Gooch. It could make an interesting piece for you Ives and for us too
That wa good news to wake up to!
Its good to hear but he doesn’t need to rush! Take your time CD.
Ives – What ever became of the accident investigation and the 3rd person involved. Is there any reason news concerning the cause of the accident has yet to surface?
What have you seen from Torres that would lead you to believe he is capable of starting for the USMNT?
Great to hear. Wishing you well, Charlie.
Agree 100%. With those type of injuries I just hope he gets back to living a normal life. Soccer is not that important in the grand scheme of things. All the best, Charlie! Gooch will come back no doubt. Just not sure when…
Altidore Dempsey
Bradley
Torres Donovan
J. Jones
Boca DeMerit Spector Cherundolo
I’m more worried about the back line then up top right now. Note that DeMerit and Jones are injured and Jones has never even played for the team. Also note that hell freezes over or there are about 3 more injuries before Bradley starts Torres.

Video of Charlie’s club team mates wishing him well.
Miracle would be an understatement! The bottom line is the USMNT will be 3 and out this summer without an act of God in the form of Charlie and Gooch getting back to the team healthy and ready to go. I’ll remain optimistic but I do not think either of these players will be in the 23 headed to South Africa.
I’m happy even if by “fantastic” they mean “he may be able to play again at some point” and not “miracle return for WC 2010”. Let’s not read too much into the word “fantastic”. As catastrophic as his injuries were, it might be fantastic if he can return to a normal range of motion and not have life long complications. Which is not to say that we’re not all pulling for Charlie to make a miracle return, but he shouldn’t feel a sense of obligation to do so.
YES,
this is wonderful news and i hope to continue to receive these updates ives if you get anything through the grapevine. i’m glad to see his recovery start and the tag of gooch too. keep up the speedy recovery and hope all is well. we miss you both! (9)
