If you are a U.S. national team fan who has been eagerly anticipating the details on how to apply for 2010 World Cup tickets, your wait is over.

U.S. Soccer has announced the process for American fans to apply for match tickets. Here are the details:

Priority status for applying for tickets to the U.S. Men’s National Team matches in South Africa will be extended to members of the U.S. Soccer Supporters Club. Registration for U.S. Soccer SC is open now at ussoccer.com, and fans seeking priority status must join by Dec. 3, 2009, at 12 p.m. ET.

Beginning later this month, all registered U.S. Soccer SC members will be sent a request to submit pre-application data to U.S. Soccer. By completing this process, fans notify U.S. Soccer of their interest in FIFA World Cup tickets and provide the information that U.S. Soccer will in turn submit to FIFA for the online ticket application. A valid passport is required for each person who requests tickets.

Once U.S. Soccer SC members have submitted their personal data to U.S. Soccer, they will be provided instructions and a link to FIFA’s online ticket application process. The FIFA online form will be available for fans to complete from Dec. 6, 2009, until Jan. 13, 2010. Requests for tickets will be handled on an equal-chance basis rather than first-come, first-served.

Have you already secured your tickets? Will you be making the trip to South Africa? Can you believe the World Cup is just seven months away?

  1. I was able to secure TST3 tickets through FIFA during one of the first sales phases, and knock on wood, but the process went much more smoothly than securing the same type of tickets through FIFA in 2006. That being said, I’m not sure I’m going to be able to afford going, primarily due to airfares that are running close to $2,500 round-trip from the U.S., and that doesn’t include the potential travel costs when in South Africa. I had a blast in Germany, and hope to go, but it’s going to be tough.

  2. My wife and I thought about going, but then I reminded her it will be winter there. Plus, the hotels are going to be a clusterfoxtrot. All in all, just not worth it. Transportation is going to be a failure, too.

  3. i was in germany for the WC and Holland for euros and enjoyed the brothels in the first country and the coffeeshops in the 2nd, ive also travelled extensively through south america and southeast asia but im not going to SA.

    Too expensive and too dangerous.
A few guys at my dojo work as security guys and have travelled to SA over the past 2-3 years and all suggested that travelling there would not be a good idea.

  4. I hate USSF.

Not only do they allow home game(SSSSS) to be over-run with the visiting fans who hit OUR players with foreign objects just to make a profit by filling football stadiums, but they also offer “priority status” to people who fork over $49.99 each year to join a supporters club they created.

    F– off Gulati.

  5. We have four tickets to six games…can’t wait for the draw so we can figure out who we are (potentially) seeing. We want to catch at least one US game, but it will be tough in a big country with transportation issues.

  6. I went to all three US games in Germany 06, and really enjoyed my solo trip. But the price and the discouragement of South African friends regarding crime is making SA a no go for me.

  7. I was reluctant to buy tickets because just getting there from Japan is crazy expensive, so I missed the first FIFA window, but going there for just one US game sounds more and more enticing as we get closer to next summer.

  8. I’m sure there are a lot of people who have bought (or will buy) tickets, but will have to sell them once they figure out all the travel costs involved. I’ll wait this one out for now.

Buying the game tickets is the easy part.

  9. Got the USA TST4s back in the first FIFA sales window! Just waiting for the draw to see where and who we are playing. Plane tickets are bought too. If you are still looking for flights, check out Cheapoair.com. Flying from JFK-Barca-Joburg for $1300. Beats the hell out of any of the prices I saw on any other website. You can also check with ASAPtickets.com, I got a great deal on the trip to Germany in 06, but you can not book it online, you have to call. Look for flights out of the BIG cities and book your transportation to that city seperately. It will save you, but you will have to pick up luggage and go back thru security for the international leg of the trip.

  10. If they are doing it the same way they did for Germany, you would only want to do one application because of the rules for the maximum number of tickets that one person or household can apply for. I think all of the FIFA sales were over before the national team allocations went on sale for Germany though. Since I got lucky and got TST4s thru FIFA on the first try, I’m not as up on it as I was in 06 when we eventually got TST4s thru US Soccer. Hope to see you in South Africa!!!

  11. It is going to be a ridiculously expensive trip – and the costs of hotels have skyrocketed. I’m headed to SA a week early, and we were able to book excellent hotels in Cape Town for $250 a night. Those same rooms go anywhere from $400-$1000(!!) once the tournament begins…

  12. I also got my tickets in the March window, but obviously don’t know the teams I’ll be seeing yet. Even though, I’m excited for the random games and seeing some new countries play live. Its truly the greatest sporting event in the world and the best part about it is meeting other fans. The passion is infectious. When I hop on the plane, i hope to be sporting this MONEY new USMNT Jersey!!! Check it out: http://project2010.wordpress.com/2009/11/16/the-new-u-s-2010-nike-jerseys/

I am all over this design, its truly…AMERICAN and hopefully the diagonal sash is a iconic look that will last more than one World Cup cycle.

  13. Have any of you been able to figure out an actual budget for this trip? The best I could figure, Flight ($2500), 3 Tix ($350), hotel + transportation for 10 nights (2000), food and everything else (1000), means this would be a very expensive trip. I’m thinking at least $5500 per person, maybe some savings if going with 4 people and sharing rooms/etc.

  14. If someone is going to SA to watch a few games, they won’t consider the $50 a big price to pay. Trust me, plenty of USMNT supporters will pay this without thinking twice. The men in suits (Gulati) are pretty aware that a large portion of the USMNT supporter base is made up of college graduate yuppies who have lots of expendable cash sitting around.

  15. So you have to pay 50 bucks for the right to possibly get tickets? I won’t be going to South Africa because as a college student there is no way I can afford it, but screw this idea.

  16. good question, not sure. I would love a more detailed description from US Soccer as far as how much one’s chances for getting tickets improve by paying the $50 membership fee. I would hope it would be pretty significant.

  17. can someone help me understand this… maybe this is similar to the 2006 process…

can I try to get tickets via the FIFA website AND USSF or only one?

because FIFA will still have tickets for sale under thier lottery process as well. If I apply via USSF, does that preclude me from applying directly via FIFA?
