USA-Slovakia to be shown on FSC

U.S. Crest

The U.S. national team's friendly vs. Slovakia in Bratislava later this month will air live on Fox Soccer Channel.

U.S. Soccer announced via its Twitter Wednesday that the U.S. team's first of two European friendlies will air live at 10am on FSC on Nov. 14. No word yet on what station will air the U.S. team's friendly against Denmark four days later. The USA-Denmark match will air on ESPN2 on Nov. 18.

What do you think of the game being shown on FSC? Upset you can't watch the game in High Definition? Happy you don't have to watch the game in a bar or online?

  1. 7 am on the West Coast? Eff me. Guess I’ll be getting up a little early to watch the boys take on the Slovaks.

What time is the Denmark game at?

  2. I’m excited the Denmark game is on ESPN2 since I’ll be ditching work early to go watch it in an airport bar before my flight, and they’re much more likely to have ESPN2 AND switch over to it. That’s dedication right thurrrr

  3. I am fine with it since I have FSC. It’s also not too terrible (or should not be) from general viewership perspective since FSC seems to be available through most cable and satellite providers (no hard data, just anecdotal evidence). At least that’s true in CA — if FSC isn’t widely available throughout the country, than the move is more questionable.

  4. Don’t think the Christopher Sullivan/Max Bretos combo will be in Bratislava. Won’t they need to cover the MLS playoff semifinals or does FSC not go to that round? I kind of like BTW, Dave Johnson is the “in the net” guy who does DC United and other MLS games. He’s a local broadcaster from the D.C. area. Very, very nice guy. I met him personally at a DC United event years ago and he’s one of the most ego-free, down to earth media people you’ll ever meet.

  5. I’m just thrilled that we can debate where the games should be shown, rather than just be amazed they are on TV at all. TV coverage has come a long way.

  6. Cannot understand US Soccer’s thinking!! They want more viewership and yet FSC is not widely available. I usually have to call Direct TV (which takes about 30 minutes of phone tag ), switch package , and then cancel the package after the game. I’m just curious how many people actually watch poker on ESPN to justify as regular program..do they actually have more viewers ? Cannot even promote the game as friends say ‘Bah’ I’m not going to pay extra to watch a game.” I for one ( a devout football fan) am contemplating on giving up watching Team USA (and sadly contributing to statistics as ‘soccer viewership declining!!” If US Soccer had a TV channel and broadcast their games as well as other games and charged even a mini fee, it would do wonders.

  7. FSC has a contract with the USSF for a certain number of MNT and WNT games per year (or maybe over a couple of years).

Naturally, the MNT games will usually be friendlies against non-marquee opponents or with MLS/Scandinavian lineups.

Either way, the Univision networks have the Spanish-language rights to all MNT games.

  8. I’m pleased that both games will be on TV. November 14 will be a fun day of watching games…mixed in with plenty o’ college football and other soccer games that day…10am USA game, Euro games in the afternoon, etc. Can’t wait!

  10. What time is the game on ESPN2?

Also, what is the latest on the Ricardo Clark, Donovan, (and possibly Stuart Holden) moves to Europe? Anybody hear anything recent?

  11. These tickets are going to be hard to get. They love Conor Casey in Europe and the scalpers are going to be charging huge amounts for these games 🙂

  12. I’m thrilled that it will be on FSC !!! That helps justify paying for that sports package. FYI – The resolution on FSC has improved greatly since about 6 months ago. My carrier is Charter Communications.

  13. Seeing as this match will be played smack dab in the middle of a Saturday, why is anyone suprised ESPN didn’t pick it up?

Do you really think ESPN2 would dump College Football for a seemingly meaningless soccer friendly?

This game never had a chance to be on ESPN2. Now Wednesday’s game at Denmark? That has to be on ESPN somewhere…

  14. I have to DVR it as Maryland plays VA Tech in Football that day… and depsite the fact that we are crap, its still a big game. So I will be freaking out about it until I can watch it around 6pm that night.

  15. Anyone know how to get tickets? I am tempted to go as a I am Yank living abroad and can get a cheap flight / hotel, but US Soccer has no information.

  16. I wouldnt mind if it were simply not on HD, but FSC has such poor resolution in comparison to other non-HD channels. ESPN360 is even higher quality resolution than FSC. (Based on my Comcast experience)

  17. Sweet, I hope Max Bretos and Christopher Sullivan commentate the game. They are on their way to the Broadcasting Hall of Fame.

  19. OT: they’re just finishing up the installation of the last roof panels at Red Bull Arena.

I can’t wait until that stadium is fully operational – and I’m not even a Red Bull supporter.

  20. I thought ESPN had the rights to the USMNT games? Or because it’s an away game anyone can negotiate rights to televise?

(SBI-I don’t believe friendlies are part of that agreement.)

  21. Ives, is Bradley waiting to find out who is out of the MLS playoffs to decide his team (or has he announced it and I just haven’t been paying enough attention)

(SBI-I would imagine the USA roster will come out Sunday night, after the MLS playoff games.)
