If you thought this week was kind to the U.S. national team on the injury front, you will love to hear that Jay DeMerit is closing in on his return.
DeMerit has recovered quicker than expected from a freak eye injury that has sidelined him since September, and the Watford centerback resumed full training with the club this week.
Despite DeMerit's progress, Watford does not want to rush his recovery, so it will be unlikely that he plays in either of the club's next two games (Watford plays Newcastle United on Saturday, and Queens Park Rangers two days later).
DeMerit joins injured midfielders Maurice Edu and Jermaine Jones as players who have recently returned to training after lengthy injury layoffs. The news of DeMerit's recovery also comes on the same week that injured forward Charlie Davies said he would recover from multiple injuries in time for the World Cup.
What do you think of DeMerit returning to training? Excited by all the good news this week? Starting to believe the U.S. will get a lucky draw?
