The U.S. national team will start its World Cup year by playing Honduras at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California on Jan. 23 (9pm ET, Fox Soccer Channel).
The USSF announced on Tuesday that the U.S. team will finish its annual January training camp with a friendly against Honduras, confirming reports that surfaced last week. The match will mark the fifth meeting between the two teams in the past year.
Tickets go on sale for U.S. Soccer Supporters Club members on Dec. 15 and to the general public on Dec. 18.
What do you think of the USA-Honduras friendly? Thinking about attending the match? Wondering whether Honduran fans will cheer more loudly for Jonathan Bornstein than for their own players?

Why Honduras. I would say they are a good match for the US, but over recent months, as I have watched the US play, I have decided that Honduras will be defeated. I’m not saying it’ll be easy on the US’s part, but they have a better chance.
edgard alvarez, who plays for Bari, Guevara, who isnt that bad either,
Rev’s fullback with crazy hair; are you speaking of Kevin Alston?
if so he is legit, very athletic, good in one-on-one situation, contributes to the offense. not sure how he compares with other RB options out there.. maybe of the same level as Wynne
Darrius Barres is a CB and he propably has more upside, but both have had a great impact on the revs last year. both have been called in to camp, maybe could be 2014 fringe players..?
awesome.
but ya they need HD bad.
i’ll be rooting for honduras behind the yanks at the wc.

Erik,
So much whining. Nobody is forcing you to watch.
IS Johnathan Spector no longer starting? 2 games in a row hmmmm
wow, yeah. This is going to really prepare us. Mexico has Holland and Germany lined up; those are challenging games from which they’ll gain from. We booked Honduras. Brilliant. that’s gonna help. Jesus, Sunil. Pick it up.
(SBI-Jorge, this match isn’t on an international fixture date so they wouldn’t be able to get anybody else aside from Scandinavian B/C teams anyway. Mexico’s not playing Netherlands or Germany on that date, you can count on that.)
More interested in when new World Cup kits will be unveiled. I hope we keep the anthracite away kits.
Any confirmation on playing mexico in a friendly…
I heard rumors
Beasley is making his way back on the World Cup team!
Holden has nice hair gel and a hell of a cross but at this point, I don’t know if he should be starting in the World Cup for team USA.
Although and I will say it now, he could be a breakout youngster like Donovan and the Bease at ’02.
But, I don’t rate him.
Off topic but Beasley just scored a Golazo. Wow.
Beazer scores…
Beasley just scored a ridiculous goal for Rangers
DeMarcus just scored a wonderful goal!
BEASLEY WONDERGOAL!!!!!
From the near side of the penalty box to the far upper 90… freakin’ sweet.
OMG at DMB!!! GOAL!!!
someone needs to dub max bretos over that….
yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh
Watch Holden do next to nothing? Really? Seriously?
oh how I love my pirated streams
why LA, ussoccer needs to do some PR by playing in none MLS cites
(SBI-The camp is at Home Depot Center, which is the official national team training facility.)
I suggest we set the price of the broadcast rights in Honduras at… one hundred billion dollars!
Perkins and Marshall? What are they worth to this team in terms of the World Cup? Nada…
whats honduras’ first XI gonna look like in the WC? Pretty nasty, i presume.
figueroa, palacios, de leon, thomas, suazo, costly
who else?
If you have Direct TV, just go to Channel 460 – they show most of the games in HD.
probably gonna fly down from sf to meet all my college buddies from slo there, i’m stoked. should be tons of fun.
Waste of time and sick of hearing about “fringe” players. Bob has his roster set and none of these clowns who would play in a game like this will make the team.
Well, I guess we can watch Bornstein screw up again or Holden do next to nothing.
I would have preferred a team from Europe or South America to be honest. It does not really matter though.
i agree, but I think the main problem is that MLS teams still dont have the kind of resources to establish those kinds of scouting networks anywhere but in the US.
lol @ that link.
Found last year’s camp roster:
GOALKEEPERS (4): Jon Busch (Chicago Fire), Will Hesmer (Columbus Crew), Troy Perkins (Valerenga IF), Matt Pickens (out of contract)
DEFENDERS (8): Jonathan Bornstein (Chivas USA), Danny Califf (FC Midtjylland), Sean Franklin (Los Angeles Galaxy), Jason Hernandez (San Jose Earthquakes), Ugo Ihemelu (Colorado Rapids), Chad Marshall (Columbus Crew), Chris Wingert (Real Salt Lake), Marvell Wynne (Toronto FC)
MIDFIELDERS (8): Brian Carroll (Columbus Crew), Ricardo Clark (Houston Dynamo), Eddie Gaven (Columbus Crew), Stuart Holden (Houston Dynamo), Jack Jewsbury (Kansas City Wizards), Sacha Kljestan (Chivas USA), Robbie Rogers (Columbus Crew), John Thorrington (Chicago Fire)
FORWARDS (4): Brian Ching (Houston Dynamo), Kenny Cooper (FC Dallas), Charlie Davies (Hammarby IF), Chris Rolfe (Chicago Fire)
Who will step up this year? We found Davies, Holden, Perkins, Marshall last year. I really wish Wynne would improve, he has such potential, especially with his speed. I’ve heard that rookie on the Revs with the crazy hair is a beast of a fullback as well…. Any Northeasters who can give further feedback on him?
I for one think our MLSers/Scandinavians are evenly matched up, slightly better than the Hondurans, which is a good thing for US soccer. Honduras has been creating serious talent.
We wouldn’t learn much by playing any other national squad either, since it’s not an international fixture date (and thus no squad would be anywhere near full strength).
The point is to get the US fellas that are available for camp some decent competition on the pitch while getting some ticket sales accomplished at the same time.
first champions league game in 2010 is when they switch. It’s not full screen HD, but God I hope it’s better than the horrible feeds where it looks like you’re playing World Cup for NES:

23 I believe.
considering no European player will be let go for the camp, it really is just about the coaching staff getting a better look at fringe players. Have to side with you, feeling spoiled with our lineup of opponents recently, it’s dissapointing not seeing a top 25 country face us. But it’s still better than Guatemala, Latvia, Jamaica, etc.
Will FSC be in HD at that point?
Spanish Language Station(s) to be announced….my vote…sell on a pay per view basis after making us watch the US clinch from pirated streams…
Considering that all Euro-based talent will be unavailable not only for U.S. but for any potential opponent I think this is about as good as could be hoped for in Jan. It will 1)be an even match 2)allow out 2nd and 3rd stringers an opportunity to make their case for a trip to SA 3)make money.
By the way…why can’t MLS sign more young C. American talent? do they really get paid more to play in Honduran, Costa Rican, Guatemalan league? I am talking about up and comers here not established talent. I wouldn’t mind some MLS scouts poaching some domestic Honduran talent.
Will it also be on a spanish language broadcast (i get all of those but not FSC)?
I don’t like this. We’ve played Honduras how many times in the last 16 months? What are we going to learn from this?
Honduras, much like us, will be comprised of domestic and continental players and be missing their European based players. Nonetheless, they will still be a good side and it will be a very even affair. I like the match up. Much better than a weakened Scandinavian country whose first, second, and maybe third best players play outside Scandinavia. Fortunately or unfortunately, which ever way you looked at it, their will be a pro-Honduran contingent at the game. So USSF will make some money.
It may be B and C teams..but it will be a very ‘friendly’ match and a good chance to test depth. Will have the atmosphere of a training match I suspect (?).
Honduras does owe Bornstein a drink or two 😉
But lets not forget the Hondurans did have to win a few games to make the World Cup…it wasn’t entirely a gift. (Though I do realize it makes for better press to credit US with their WC qualification).
How many players usually get called into the January camp?
I like this. It’ll be a good chance for both teams to evaluate their depth ahead of the Cup.
