The recent injury to Clint Dempsey left many a U.S. national team fan worried about injuries and how they will impact the U.S. team's chances at the World Cup this summer.

With Dempsey, Charlie Davies and Oguchi Onyewu currently sidelined, there is certainly cause for concern, but the progress that has been made by Davies and Onyewu has to be seen to be believed. I will be covering this subject in some in-depth stories that will appear on ESPN.com and SBI on Monday so stay tuned.

  1. This is almost too good to hear.

Ives – is there any possibility at all that Gooch could get loaned out this year? If the transfer window closes and he’s not healthy until Feb., is there still a posibility for that or is Jan. 31st the absolute deadline (even for loans)?

  2. I agree with most of what you said. Our back line scares me too, but quite frankly, I’m possibly more concerned with how we will score. Without Davies and potentially without Dempsey in good form, we will rely mostly on Altidore and Donovan with some Bradley thrown in there. Not exactly what I would call a dominant attack. If the defense is week come WC time, the only thing we can hope for is a strong offensive attack.
