Cole out three months with broken ankle

Were you one of the American soccer fans worried about Landon Donovan going over to the English Premier League and getting injured? Well, it appears that it was England fans who should have been worried.

Donovan went in on a solid challenge (pictured above) against Chelsea defender Ashley Cole on Wednesday on a play that wound up leaving the English national team left back with a broken left ankle that will keep him sidelined for three months.

Cole should be back in time for the World Cup, but any setbacks could leave England with inevitable decision of starting Wayne Bridge in the same back-line as John Terry, assuming Bridge would be willing to be on the same field with his former best friend.

After facing Cole and Terry on Wednesday, in a 2-1 Everton victory, Donovan will have his chance to face what could be the other half of England's World Cup back-line when the Toffees meet Rio Ferdinand, Wes Brown and Manchester United on Feb. 20.

The United States faces England in the World Cup opener for both sides on June 12.

Keep it up Landon. Donovan will make Vidic feel like he’s against Torres again and we all know how that goes… England have lost the only consistent and relatively injury-free defender on the squad. Terry’s falling apart and if Bridge has to play with him, things might be easier for the US to disrupt their unity, especially if we can take an early lead.
