Moves galore as Transfer Window nears close

Mancini (Reuters)

The European transfer window is set to close today and teams all over Europe are scrambling to either fill roster gaps or unload players they no longer need.

There haven't been many blockbuster moves, though Mancini's loan swap from Inter to AC Milan and Adam Johnson's imminent move to Manchester City are among the more high-profile moves.

As far as Americans making moves, U.S. national team captain Carlos Bocanegra is the one player we are still waiting to see move. There have been consistent rumors of a potential move to St. Etienne from Rennes, but no move has been made yet. We will keep you posted on that as the French League deadline draws closer.

Here are some of the Americans who have already made European moves this winter: Landon Donovan to Everton (loan), Stuart Holden to Bolton, Ricardo Clark to Eintracht Frankfurt, Eddie Johnson and Freddy Adu to Larissa, Zak Whitbread to Norwich City, Kenny Cooper to Plymouth Argyle (loan) and Chris Rolfe to Aalborg BK.

Feel free to discuss all transfer talk in the comments section below (we will keep a running list of transfers and loans after the jump):

  1. This is a Business!! Why don’t you guys get that… Redknap won’t sell Pavlyachenko for less than they bought him which is 12 mill lbs and he hasn’t done ish in the prem, so why can’t MLS offer that for Landon? 5 mill? really? Thats a ridiculously low ball offer and the first step to legitimacy is to sell players at Market value and his value is higher than 5 mill, and if thats all everton can come up with then I’d rather see him in MLS, or maybe a trade can happen, they can trade cody arnoux, peterlin and goslin for Landon and 5 mill I think the Galazy would go for that.

  2. agreed – remember Hunt was Convey’s back-up at Reading until Convey got hurt. He has started the last 2 seasons gangbusters and faded dramatically in the spring. He is no where near the quality of Donovan.

  3. Redline – agreed. Spector has only been doing left back while Ilunga injured. He should be back next week. Meantime Spector battles Flaubert for right back spot so I agree – great news for Spector that the Hammers were unsuccessful and signing a right back.

  4. you’re correct, he’s been on the left for the past few games, but I think Zola still primarily sees him as a right back once other players’ health concerns clear up. Either way, it’s a sigh of relief as far as PT goes.

  5. Hopefully, if he does really well and Fulham want to keep him, this impacts Zamora and not Dempsey. Or, best case, he goes back to Roma after the loan in June.

  6. Nobody has mentioned Okaka’s move to Fulham yet, but this could be a good one. He’s proven himself to be dangerous in limited time at Roma, and scored a fantastic game-winning goal with his backheel this past weekend. Roma was hesitant to let him go, but with Toni in the squad, there really was no opening for him. He needs to learn to finish more consistently (which should come with increased playing time), but every time I’ve seen him he’s looked like he has all the tools.
