Brad Friedel (ISIphotos.com)

Brad Friedel and Aston Villa is in the race for the valuable fourth-place spot in the English Premier League and will look to move a step closer to it when the Villans take on Tottenham in the best of the rest of Saturday's matchday schedule.

Friedel and Villa will look to try and stop a red-hot Tottenham attack as both teams look to keep pace with Liverpool, which posted three points with its win vs. Everton.

Jozy Altidore will look to keep his recent good form going as Hull faces Manchester City. Carlos Bocanegra and Renne take on first-place Bordeaux in another top match.

  1. haha yeah maybe. I didn’t mean to make it sound like the team should revolve around Landon, but that he should give him a role where he’s able to take on more. 2009 showed us that he’s ready to take on more and part of the reason for him going to Everton is to see how much more he could take on while still getting into match fitness for MLS and the World Cup.

  2. I’m really confused about FSC HD…I get the channel through Dish Network and am currently watching Tottenham vs Villa and it claims to be in HD. Watching it, I highly suspect it is actually HD quality as it seems no different than the Hull match, and far below the quality of ESPN2HD’s liverpool match this morning. FSC HD seems more like a sham to me…

Anyone else share my thoughts/feelings regarding FSC HD?

  3. So this may have been discussed before but where is the HD? I’m on Time Warner in BK. Got it dialed into 124. Should this be the HD channel? Hep me!

  4. to be honest donovan had a great game and howard had a mistake but the english commentators were going down on the two acting like they dont deserve to be on the field with the other players. Frankly the two may have been two old idiots.

  5. Excited about Jozy getting his first and building good performances for Hull. I was pretty skeptical him playing the second forward role with Venegoor, but he seems to be combining well with the Dutchman. So long as his work rate stays high his place in the starting lineup shouldn’t suffer too many question marks.

As far as Donovan vs Liverpool goes, he seemed to be doing pretty well in the first half, finding the game and delivering telling passes and crosses, which led to some of Everton’s better buildups and chances. It all kind of went down hill when Fellaini had to come off and I think that just sort of epitomizes his importance to the squad. With no one to spray the ball around from deep and start moves for the Toffees, all the offensive opportunities came simply from Liverpool sitting so deep in their own half. If anything comes of this match for Everton, it’s that the suspension of Pienaar and injury of Fellaini will force Moyes’ team into a slightly different shape, and therefore, possibly, Donovan in a new position. I’d like to see this

    —————————–Saha———————

    ———————–Cahill————————-

    —–Donovan—————————Bilyletdinov—

    ——————Arteta—–Osman——————–

    Baines—————————————–Neville

    ——————Distin—–Heitinga—————–

    ————————Howard————————

Moyes needs to learn that Donovan has to play a position where he’s able to fill a multitude of roles. He’s not a winger, he’s not a striker, he’s not an attacking midfielder. He’s the best of all three and playing at left midfield gives him the option to be all three. He’s able to move down the flank with his ability to dribble at players with both feet, he’s able to cut inside to find the game, create, combine, or take a shot. The more touches Donovan gets, the better he gets throughout the game, and the better Everton plays. He’s just that good, if Moyes would simply let him be.

  6. Somebody clearly didn’t see the game… Completely unbiased spectator here, and I hate to tell ya, Josh, Landon WAS the best Everton player today.

  7. “Don’t think Zaki is going to replace Josy. They bring very different skills to the field. Folks on this blog need to relax.”

You’re the first one to bring up talks of replacement today?!?! There is a reason Jozy is getting regular starts.

  8. Don’t think Zaki is going to replace Josy. They bring very different skills to the field. Folks on this blog need to relax. They have the best of times and all they can do is complain about small stuff. Who would have dreamed that we would have had a 20-year old starting in the EPL. Where was McBride when he was 20?

  9. Hull is doing very little on attack at this point. I guess they are going to try to keep the midfield clogged up, look for occasional counters, and hope for the best against City’s attack from this point forward.

  10. If Jozy is hurt it makes sense. Otherwise, I want to see who is going to press City’s defense from Hull. Even when Jozy wasn’t on the ball, he was creating all sorts of havoc in City’s defense.
