Soccer Saturday: Your Running Commentary

Brad Friedel (ISIphotos.com)

Brad Friedel and Aston Villa is in the race for the valuable fourth-place spot in the English Premier League and will look to move a step closer to it when the Villans take on Tottenham in the best of the rest of Saturday's matchday schedule.

Friedel and Villa will look to try and stop a red-hot Tottenham attack as both teams look to keep pace with Liverpool, which posted three points with its win vs. Everton.

Jozy Altidore will look to keep his recent good form going as Hull faces Manchester City. Carlos Bocanegra and Renne take on first-place Bordeaux in another top match.

  1. well if williams has been shutting down players either on the left or right the last 2 games than i say yes he can handle international compatition.

  2. Don’t know if anyone is watching, but Real Madrid is putting on an absolute clinic. Great fun to watch (if you are a Madridista).

Phil Schoen of GolTV is a bit annoying, however. He keeps alluding to the idea that this team is better without Ronaldo. Yes, they have played nicely without him, but he happened to score two goals in the last game he played (before being red-carded).

Yeah, he has to learn to play with the other guys on the field more effectively. On the other hand, he is one of the top three players in the world so quit implying they are better without him. Silly.

  3. So Jozy Altidore has now scored goals in both the English Premier League and Spanish La Liga, and he isn’t even old enough to buy a beer in his home country.

    Pretty good, IMO.

  4. Both of you guys are wrong; Cherundolo, with the exception of injuries, has been starting for Hannover consistently for years now and you’re trying to tell me some just emerging kid for a team that’s not even in Germany’s top flight is better than Cherundolo? As for Spector, I doubt Daniel Williams could even somewhat take on any of the teams at the Confederations Cup except for Egypt, South Africa, and Iraq like Spector did.

Combined? Don’t get me started, and Chauvinist…that’s ridiculous considering both have played for top tier teams at least once in their careers, your statement makes no sense.

  5. Cooper almost scored off a a direct free kick today. the shot went just over. Daniel Williams is an amazing fullback. better than cherundolo and spector put together lol

  6. He’s a lot like Bradley for the USA. Two-way player, hustles, decent pace, makes crunching tackles, distributes well, isn’t bad moving with the ball and is and when he’s on, so are Everton, offensively and defensively. I remember during the Everton-Manchester City game when the Toffees led 2-0, he recieved the ball and his first touch was a roulette( like Zidane and Henry) right around Craig Bellamy, who immediately after words gave him some dap.

  7. I am getting FSC in HD. Are others not?

I thought LD looked to pass in shooting situations. Everton was outplayed by a 10 man Liverpool.

  8. Man, I keep watching it over and over and I can’t get over how good it is! I mean, the way he lost his man was awesome. His decision to cut back out of traffic was beautiful, the run was perfect, and then that strike was delicious….Just awesome. I love how we went backwards to lose his man and get open, just pure footy. He made a top defense look like 6th grade girls. WAY TO GO JOZY!! WONDERFUL GOALAZO!!

  9. I think the US MNT has the hold up forward we have been lacking. With Jozy playing the way he is we definitely don’t need both Ching and Casey. It’s either one or other. now for some speed and guile…..

  10. very true there…maybe heitinga moves wide with senderos getting time? when does jagielka come back?

and neville is as much to blame for the goal as howard. how do you let your man get between you and the goal there?!

so he sucks at D and getting forward…get him out of there

everton couldnt crack liverpools back line until YAK came in

moyes has to give yak some more playing time over saha. yak is a better hold up forward. saha only is dangerous when he is going nuts and flying around the pitch
