Terry removed as England captain, Ferdinand likely new skipper

According to multiple reports out of England, John Terry has been removed as captain of the English national team. The news isn't much of a surprise considering the number of revelations emerging about Terry (the latest being an apparent attempt to rent out the Wembley Stadium luxury box he is given for being England captain).

England manager Fabio Capello is expected to select Rio Ferdinand to replace Terry as England's captain.

What do you think of the decision? Glad to see England manager Fabio Capello take a stand? Wondering if Terry and Wayne Bridge will both be on the England World Cup squad?

  1. “Keep in mind the girl is also the mother to Wayne Bridge’s son”

I’d wouldn’t be too sure about that right now. The kid is 3, but Bridge’s ex was also sneaking with Mutu and Gudjohnsoon along with another unnamned CFC player according to English press. I would be getting a DNA test if I were Bridge.

  2. It’s called an affair because Bridge was still with this girl when Terry fooled around with her. Otherwise it’d just be frowned upon.

  3. As far as I’m concerned, John Terry needed to be stripped of the armband. I don’t have a problem with the Chelsea management opting to ignore the flap and keep Terry as their captain. Chelsea F.C. is privately-owned, and, if the Russian oil baron who has sunk hundreds of millions of pounds into his club wants John Terry as skipper, that’s his call. The English National Team is a different story, though. I feel that when a player pulls on that white shirt with the three-lions crest over the heart he is representing Queen and country and should conduct himself in a manner befitting the enormity of that honor. The honor of being the English captain is such that whoever holds the position is entitled to a box at Wembley. I’m admittedly old-fashioned, but I believe it shouldn’t have come to the point where Capello had to strip his captain of the band. John Terry should have had the dignity to resign it himself once his misdeeds came to light.

  4. Now we just need Capello to unveil his new “3-6-1” formation just before the World Cup Starts, and everything will be perfectly in place….

  5. You can be assured that The British Media will dig up something on Rio Ferdinand. Who is if not more so, into his own self preservation, take for instance his magazine. I can’t understand it. A country whom is so passionate about its football, yet it seems to want to tear it down? Why is the British Media so hell bent on destroying the National Team every time the World Cup nears?? I just don’t see how stripping John Terry of the Captaincy helps the team. Will Rio even Play?? Considering his recent Injuries?

  6. I wonder how the team feels about all this. In the beginning there were some reports that senior team members were against Terry. Then came stories about them supporting him. I wonder if they’re dividing into 2 different camps, one for Bridge, the other for Terry.

Anyone upset about Terry being removed as Captain should be glad that it was Bridge’s girl he was with and not Rooney’s, Cole’s, Gerrard’s, or another important member of the team. That would be the clusterfuck to end all clusterfucks, especially if it was Rooney. The media would probably die of a giant orgasm and team chemistry would be screwed. That’s why it’s best not to get involved with a team mates girl, whether she’s current or an ex. Too much drama.

  7. I keep hearing people who are defending Terry say that he didn’t start his affair with Vanessa or whatever her name is until after she had broken up with Bridge. Has a time line for the affair ever been confirmed, or are we all just guessing? I believe one story I read said she was Bridges’ ex at the time, but others have said the affair occurred while they were still together.

I’m beginning to suspect the latter might have been true since it upset Bridge so much, and Terry fought so hard to keep it a secret. I doubt either Terry or the other woman would come out and admit it now, but something tells me (maybe it’s the fact that he cheated on his wife with one of her close friends or his other bad behavior) that Terry didn’t wait around until Bridge left before he approached Bridge’s ex.

  8. To all- Thanks for clearing all that up. I was under the impression that it was just an old girlfriend. Yeah regardless Terry is sleazy, and I have never liked the prick. I just wondered what the big deal was. Didn’t know about the timing or the kid. Yeah, this is as bad as the stories make it out to be.

  9. When a team is disorganized or needs a lift at some moment (on or off the field), do you think Terry is the man to go to? The captain is a leader. If players cannot respect him, he can’t lead.

  10. It’s no one’s fault but John Terry’s that he’s not captain anymore. Capello warned him after the email scandal where he was trying to cash in on being England’s Captain to get advertisement deals. It’s just one scandal after another with Terry. His name stays in the papers and I don’t think Capello wants a captain who’s personal life will distract from the world cup. This affair probably isn’t even Terry’s darkest secret. The person above who mentioned him having a gambling problem may be right. I know I can’t be the only one who finds it odd that a player as rich as Terry stays involved in embarrassing schemes to make money.
