This weekend’s soccer on TV

The English Premier League is on a break from action while the FA Cup takes center stage in England, but leave it to Serie A to pick up the slack in the marquee match department.

A quartet of quality Italian matches headline the weekend's offerings on the soccer TV schedule. First-place Inter Milan battles fourth-place Napoli in the best match-up of the bunch, while red-hot AS Roma faces equally surprising Palermo.

If you still need some English soccer, Bolton-Tottenham is a good match-up that could even include the Bolton debut for American midfielder Stuart Holden. If you're hoping to see some U.S. national team players in action, you don't have to wait long as Michael Bradley's match for Moenchengladbach vs. Nuremberg is on TV this afternoon.

Here is a rundown of this weekend's Soccer on TV:

  1. Dutch is MUCH harder to learn. So if anyone thinks MB got where he is due to nepotism they should understand this guy is pretty sharp, hard working and driven. What he mostly needs is to stop being a walking red card waiting to happen.

  2. He had two other passes equally good in the first half, that just didn’t lead to goals (bad touch by striker, good defending, etc.).

  3. Love hearing Landon is getting some love. Let’s just hope Capello doesn’t put a bounty on him for unintentionally breaking Cole’s ankle.

FYI, the Rayados vs. Tigres game is on Sunday, NOT Saturday as listed.

  4. yeah understood, haha. He’s growing into those types of players though, and I’m thoroughly convinced he could walk into one of the big f our teams and break into the first team eventually.

  5. That said… it’s probably a little early to put baby Bradley in such elite company as you did. He’s freakin’ good, though, and the allegations of nepotism need to just stop.

  6. Can’t understand every word, because he’s excited, but the commentator pretty much messes in his drawers over Bradley’s pass. “Picture book.”

He thinks the second Gladbach goal should have been called back, though, and I tend to agree.

  7. In the same spirit, but more in tune with the location of the game, el clásico regiomontano or el clásico regio.

I’ll DVR it to see how Castillo plays, won’t be able to watch live.

Bradley’s pass is in the replay of the first goal.

Excellent ball by Michael. He’s kind of turning into a Xabi Alonso-Michael Ballack-Steven Gerrard type of player. That may be the wrong way to describe it, but what I mean is that he can influence the game from deep positions by spraying the ball around, while making excellent dynamic runs forward to combine with the players in the attacking third, as well as helping defensively by making crunching tackles and closing the passing lanes.

  9. I know it’s completely off topic, but more important.

Everyone please say a prayer for Nodar Kumaritashvili and his family. He’s the Georgian luger who died today on his final practice run before the start of the winter Olympics. He was traveling 88 mph before losing control and hitting a steel column.

  10. Totally off the topic but I thought you might enjoy these quotes from an article on Evertonfc.com –

Landon Donovan set up Saha’s first against Chelsea and has impressed since arriving at Goodison in January. And the Blues the Club captain says England will have singled out the American as the danger man in the USA line up when they two sides meet in the World Cup this summer.

The on-loan LA Galaxy player has a string of impressive performances under his belt in recent weeks.

But Neville says his showing against Chelsea is his best so far.

The skipper says Fabio Capello will have paid close attention to Donovan and the way he kept Ashely Cole out of the game before the left-bacl was forced off with a serios ankle injury.

“Landon was asked to do a job against Ashley Cole. The question the manager asked Landon before the game was ‘can you pose Ashley Cole a problem?'” revealed Neville.

“Well he did that, he totally nullified Ashley Cole and he posed the whole back four a problem. He was outstanding.”

Donovan must return to the States next month and join back up with the Galaxy for the start of the MLS season.

But Neville hopes he could return to Everton in the future.

“For me playing at right back with him in front of me has made my job easier,” he revealed.

“It has been a pleasure to play with him. We just hope that maybe this kind of loan arrangement can be done again next season because he has fitted in superbly.”

  11. yeah, until they get a SSS which according to their website is still in the works. It’d be great to hear from Ives about progress on that front, and if any of the pacific NW teams will play on grass.

  12. It is a documentary type show that they are doing that will follow the lives of the professional players they named, in their quest to get ready to play for their national teams as they get ready for the world cup. That’s basically what it’s about and that Torres will be one of the players featured in the show. Hope this was helpful.

  17. Pato just scored a great goal from an even better Roanldinho pass. Ronaldinho is on fire lately, definitely good to see him back in form.

  18. Bradley played a beautiful through ball down the midfield to release Reuss and resulted in a Caluito goal. Gladbach up 1-0 at the half.

  19. Barcelona and their depleted back line going to the Vicente Calderón to take on Diego Forlán and Atletico Madrid should be fun to watch.
