The U.S. men's national team will take on the Turkish national team at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on May 29 in its final World Cup tune-up match, Philadelphia Eagles officials announced on Tuesday.

The match will be one of two tune-up friendlies the United States plays before departing for South Africa for the 2010 World Cup. The Americans begin their World Cup on June 12 against England.

What do you think of Turkey as a pre-World Cup opponent? Plan on going to Philadelphia for Memorial Day Weekend?

after four years of taunting, my Turkish friends back in Switzerland and I have the chance to watch this event, we thought might never occur. Great news! I’ll be there.

  2. Since JOB was also injured at that point in 2006 what other US player could even begin to do what a Reyna, over the hill or not, could do?

With your 20/20 hindsight tell me who you would you have played in Reyna’s place?

  3. yeah for some reason US soccer has no interest in using Denver or Salt Lake for training for Altitude. Which is stupid. One advantage we could have over England is getting used to the altitude and we don’t bother. At least we played in those stadiums last year and England didn’t.

  4. So the Rapids will be missing Casey and the Sounders will have all their foriegn-powered team (minus the great but too old for international play Goalkeeper).

    Go Rapids!

  5. As a rule I dislike Philly… but when you guys start talking about which place has the best philly cheesesteak I really, really dislike you.

    Just messing with you…

But seriously, I hope Philly Union fans are better then Eagles fans.

  6. I’m not sure that Nike is really sold on that kit either. I think the only leaks of it are traced back to one source who happens to be selling them on ebay.

My pal up in the accounting department at Nike says that there is some internal debate over the color of the stripe/sash and that many are pulling for as close to the 1950 jersey as possible–and that would mean RED Sash.

  7. Uhm, it’s May so most leagues will have shut down by then. The Champions League final is the week before so I don’t think any Americans on any teams will be playing outside of Norway and the MLS (maybe Mexico?).

  8. Yes, there is an opportunity to change the roster between the Holland match in early MARCH–two weeks from today–and the Turkey match in late May.
