Landon Donovan is loving life at Everton, so much so that he has every intention of returning to the Liverpool club at some point if and when he leaves to return to the Los Angeles Galaxy.

The U.S. national team star is enjoying a dream run with the Toffees, and spoke recently of his intention to come back to Goodison Park some time during his career.

“I would definitely imagine that I will be back here at some point in my life," Donovan told the Liverpool Echo. "I think it’s been an incredible experience and away from football, the people have been extremely nice.

“That being said, I do miss LA, I miss my team-mates there, I miss the sunshine. That’d be nice to get back there too.”

With an MLS strike looming as labor talks hit a wall, Donovan just might wind up staying with the English club longer than expected, something he doesn't sound like he would mind.

“I’m enjoying it and enjoying every day that I’m here," Donovan said. "Every day that goes by makes me think that I want to stay here, but we’ll see what happens.”

FERDINAND SIDELINED AGAIN WITH BACK INJURY

There are starting to be serious questions asked about Rio Ferdinand's chances of playing a major part in England's World Cup after his latest injury setback.

Ferdinand will miss England's upcoming friendly vs. Egypt, as well as Manchester United's Carling Cup Final vs. Aston Villa after a recurrence of a back injury that has plagued him throughout the current Premier League season.

Ferdinand's absence, coupled with the injured status of starting left back Ashley Cole, has England's defense looking vulnerable as we move closer to the World Cup. England will likely feature Wayne Bridge and Matthew Upson in its starting defense against Egpyt, a considerable drop-off from a healthy tandem of Ferdinand and Cole.

COLE FACING DIVORCE AMID TIGER-LIKE REVELATIONS

England national team defender Ashley Cole has joined Tiger Woods and John Terry in the athlete sex scandal club now that a series of revelations about his marital affairs has led his celebrity wife Cheryl to leave him.

Multiple reports out of England have identified multiple affairs committed by Cole, including a tryst in Seattle during Chelsea's tour of the United States.

One person fed up with the scandals is England manager Fabio Capello, who hinted that any more controversy could lead to players being left off the England World Cup squad.

BARCA SCORES ROAD DRAW IN UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

A late Zlatan Ibrahimovic goal helped give Barcelona a valuable away goal and a 1-1 draw against VfB Stuttgartin UEFA Champions League action on Tuesday.

French champions Bordeaux recorded a vital road victory against Olympiakos, scoring a 1-0 triumph in Greece to take control of its Round of 16 series.

Champions League action resumes today with one of the most high-profile match-ups of the round, Inter Milan vs. Chelsea. Today's first leg is in Milan. CSKA Moscow plays host to Sevilla in the other pre-quarterfinal match of the day.

  1. Not sure what the great mystery is with Ashley Cole. His problems are a basic reflection on human nature. It doesn’t matter how much money you make or how beautiful your wife is, if you’re not content, you will never be happy. Guys like Woods and Cole and Terry make $50 million and then get restless because they’re still not happy, so they bust their ***es to get to $100 million. The temporal feelings they had for their wives goes away, so they go after another woman trying to recapture that.

Learn to appreciate what you have and stop sacrificing everything in the pursuit of pleasure. Everything gets old eventually if you don’t learn to be content. Sermon over.

  2. Bravo my man. Someone said it. And who cares, anyone judging him right now is more than likely willing to do the same if given the chance. Guys cheat if the opportunity is there too. On the average guys aren’t being offered sex on a daily bases like women are. So guys take what they can.

As for Capello stating that he is leaving a player because of personal reasons shows just how much of a chump he is. Especially when Cole didn’t smash a teammates better-half unlike Super Terry.

  3. Cole, Terry and Tiger are blind. Compare their wives to the girls they cheated with. Instead of going to rehab, they should get mentored by kobe.

  5. Well said Nicole. Becks flight to Milan was just a symptom of the major problem Donovan criticized him for. The Landycakes name was always stupid and as lame/corny as the people who used it.

  8. What Ives says he is saying is perfect for both teams. It shows that he’d be happy to stay if Everton will pay for him and if they choose not to then he’d be happy to stay in the MLS for now. Congrats to Landon here. It looks like a win for him regardless of what happens.

  9. Could we have written a better script for our WC match up with England? There is so much personal strife going on about and between players that it has to take the focus off the on-field football and maybe even the upcoming US match. The English press will not let any of this go away for anytime soon. Plus, a lot more will probably surface (these players are every bit as popular in the UK as Tiger is here and we have started part deux with Tiger) The press will have a field day! I feel for England but it may be our only hope. Not that I am compairing the quality of the current England team to our 1998 WC team but the we now know the story behind it’s failure.

  10. Sorry, not trying to be an ass but when things like this get posted then some idiot will run with it like it’s the gosspel truth and it won’t die down. No need to blame the MLS problems on our best player if it’s not true.

  11. This Just in: Pappajohn is making baseless accusations. Stick to making pizzas, leave the reporting to Ives. (Better methods means better reporting).

  12. Lets just be honest: they thought they could get away with it. He wasn’t choosing one girl over Cheryl, he was just trying to have Cheryl AND more girls.

I almost understand his thinking that he could get away with it in the US, afterall most people here don’t know who he is, but back home in England? Plus the press in America has never been as nosy into this stuff as it is in England (if Michael Jordan could conceal his illigitamate children for years then why couldn’t anyone else?).

  13. Worst thing that ever happened to the Beckham saga was his getting recalled to the England National Team. Had that not happened he wouldn’t have ran to Milan and he wouldn’t have half-assed it here.

  14. I’m all for LD’s loyalty to MLS but its time to move on. He has been the face of MLS for years and is finally doing well in Europe. He needs to stay with Everton!

  15. Yup.

There’s no doubt that Cheryl Cole is uber-hot.

But most pro athletes – not just European soccer players – have hot wives and/or girlfriends.

And almost all of them cheat.

It’s just the nature of the beast. Or, more to the point, the nature of the subculture. Elite athletes don’t believe it’s wrong and till very recently, the media didn’t cover it when they cheated.

So, they cheat. Why? Because they can. And we would all be just like them if we were, well, just like them.

  16. Once again, Donovan did not get all over Beckham for his loan to Milan. It was for dogging it for the Galaxy after Gullit left, all while being the captain and highest-paid player. Beckham just tuned out and half-assed it out there and the Galaxy ended up tied for worst team in the leage…all the while having the Golden boot winner (Donovan, 20 goals) and 3rd leading goal scorer (Buddle, 15? goals).

Then Becks gets over there and starts bad mouthing MLS.

But that’s fine, Josh, you just continue your hate. For every “git” like you, there are thousands of folks who are just fine with Donovan.

  17. To compound England’s woe, John Terry has been in a terrible run of form. If something happens to Rooney, then England can call it quits. I really hope they pull it together by June because I want to see their full squad walk off the field after 90 of the USA.

  18. Except he didn’t shrug off a transfer fee the price of winning the lottery, and the title of ambassador of US soccer, the play for a European team the second the opportunity presented itself; he also didn’t bad mouth the league.

Becks was here for what, two seasons? Donovan’s been here since 2001 (teenager) and has accomplished everything an MLS player could ever want in that time frame. The league owes Donovan a lot, but Donovan wants to prove that he’s international quality just once in his career.

What did Becks have to prove? This comparison is downright laughable.

  19. Yeah, it’s really bad to cheat with a friend’s wife or what have you…but Ashley Cole has redefined stupidity. Who on God’s green earth would cheat on Cheryl “The Gorgeous Geordie” Cole? He’s probably mentally ill, that one.

  20. honestly, it is two different situations. LD has been in the MLS and done what he can here. he has proven his commitment to LA. that is the main difference. Beckham, who is much older, came here and then dipped out real quick.

Having said that, I never thought Beckham was out of line for doing what he did.

  21. What a git, he’s practically begging to stay at Everton after all the crap he gave Beckham – Landycakes earns back his nickname… That coming from a DC fan who really likes the fact he’s excelling in England and should be in tip top shape for SA but it’s all downhill if/when he returns to LA…

  22. i think landon didn’t realize how much he would enjoy the epl, and life there.

and as far as england goes… i would like to see fabio capella actually make good on that threat.

  23. For some reason I just don’t think that Donovan is even going to stay in Liverpool after March; so there is no way that they are going to work out a deal for him to stay permenatly. Yes I think that would be great for him and Everton I just do not see it happening. I am embarrasses for Terry and Cole; but the truth s that a majority of footballers do this type of thing. When you get caught you have to face the music. Lastly, I would love for Barcalona to get bounced int he Round of 16. That would make my month!!!
