Charlie Davies looks set to take the next step in his remarkable comeback by resuming regular training with French club Sochaux in the next week or two.

Davies sat down with Sochaux's website and gave an update about the progress he is making at the Cap Sport Rehabilitation Center in Cap Breton, France, where he has spent the last two-and-a-half weeks rehabbing. According to Davies, doctors have told him he continues to make excellent progress, and Davies believes he will return to training in the near future.

"I'm outside running at a good pace, as far as jogging, cutting, agility and playing with the ball," said Davies. "I'm starting to dribble and trying to get the movements back. By the end of next week, I'll think I'll be pretty confident to end up joining the team again in training. That will be probably a bit frustrating in the beginning, to train with the guys, but each day that I get to touch the ball, it will become easier and easier. So I can say that things are going well."

Currently rehabbing at the same rehabilitation center as Chelsea duo Ashley Cole and Michael Essien, Davies' said his main goal is to be sprinting by the end of next week, and the U.S. international also admitted that he's confident about playing in some matches before the end of the season.

"I definitely feel that I'm able to get back towards the end of April. I feel really confident that I'll be back to myself as far as physical able to run, cut, shoot and do everything that I could before," said Davies. "Right now it's just continuing day by day. I put pressure on myself to try to come back."

  1. the best weapon a striker can have is hunger. I still think and hope Chuck has a decent chance considering no fowards have stepped up for the U.S. It’s kinda sad seeing Jozy up top with out his parter.

  2. It’s the same old story mind over matter; if you don’t mind, it don’t matter.

Maybe you or I couldn’t deal with the fear, pain and negativity but Mr Davies is, as everyone knows by now, cut from slightly sterner stuff than most. I’m dubious but hopeful and … well we’ll see.

  3. Your attitude has really served you well, Ko’d. Not only was Dempsey in the 18, he’s now been subbed on against Juventus. Maybe be less condescending next time until you know the facts as well.

  4. Spot on man, I think he’s definitely going to be a force to be reckoned with come June. Another bright spot for the Nats today; Deuce is on the bench for Fulham in the Europa League!!

  6. I am simply amazed that he’s touching the ball already! At this point you can’t rule him out for SA, he has obviously already decided he’s playing and I just feel that his mentality will ensure that he reaches his goal.

I have a feeling that he’s going to be a tour de force in June. Someone with this type of determination won’t stop at just getting on the pitch, but making a huge splash.

I’m pulling for him to the fullest.

  7. I can get on board with the fairness, but haven’t we all learned where we can find reputable sources? People shoot from the hip too often.

BTW, I think it’s kinda funny that I complimented you yesterday on your parentheticals when people make posts. I guess I got what I asked for!

  8. Change your name to Soapbox Charles.

I really don’t get the sense that Charlie is basking in any sentimental glory from being in a fatal car crash. My perception is that he appreciates what life has to offer and the accident has opened his eyes some.

My guess is that 99% of us on this site have done the same thing at one point in our lives especially when we were younger. Speaking for myself it would be hypocritical to criticize Charlie for something I have done in the past.

I question whether CD can have any more impact speaking about drinking and driving than the pictures of the SUV after the wreck will do.

Most everyone is complimenting him on his superhuman drive, which has been tweaked and enhanced by his greater appreciation for life. He is getting a second chance and making the most of it. Let’s just appreciate that for now.

  9. My dream team:

    ——————-Davies—-Altidore—————–

    Dempsey—————————————-Donovan

    ——————-Jones—-Bradley——————-

    Bocanegra———DeMerit—-Onyewu————Spector

    ————————Howard————————

It probably won’t happen, but I don’t have too much doubt that if it would it would do well. A lot of soccer IQ and ability to manage the game out there.

    There’s always FIFA 10.

  10. I think you are spot on. I could see where the femur may ache … probably a lot. But when he is running the thought going through his head probably isn’t “I sure hope my femur doesn’t go out”.

With the knee there is that fear that the next time you cut it is going to rupture again.

  11. Great news, but ya gotta love the internet with these interviews that are translated from English into French and back into English again…making Charlie sound like a French-speaker of English, instead of a native Yankee. Why can’t the Sochaux site just post his original English language answers?
