The city of Houston and Harrison County have agreed on a $20 million measure to play for infrastructure improvements to help the building of a Houston Dynamo stadium. The deal is contingent on the Dynamo agreeing to pay for a $60 million stadium.
The agreement could pave the way for a Houston soccer stadium in time for the 2012 MLS season. There are still votes to be cast, but this agreement is a major step forward for the Dynamo.

That’s what I was wondering. $80 million doesn’t seem like enough money to build a stadium.
Unrealistic to think an 80/90 million dollar project will be on par with a 200 million dollar stadium. The design drawings look great and I am sure they will do a great job to make it a 4th great professional stadium.
As far as the stadium and the field, I have heard Oliver Luck flat out promise with these words “eventhough TSU will play football there, there will be NO lines on the field.” I believe the guy b.c. the field crew can make it happen. The problem at the Rob was that the UH did not care. If the Dynamo are paying and managing the grounds they can lay lines down and pick them up all they want.
All I know is that I will be there on opening day when it opens sporting my orange jersey!
Actually the “play” part is accurate…there’s going to be a match between the county officials and the city mayoral staff. The winner only has to pay $5 million of the 20 mill agreed upon.
That’s not true at all. AEG moved the team because they were bitter they couldn’t get any public taxpayer dollars to finance a stadium. However, Lew Wolff was able to get the Quakes stadium deal done without any need for stealing from public coffers. Additionally, even with the public money AEG is getting in Houston, it STILL is going to cost the same amount of private money as San Jose’s stadium. That is just pathetic, considering how much damage AEG did to the MLS brand in the greater bay area with their shenanigans in 2005.
Not really- at least Gillette isn’t falling apart. I’ve been to Gillette and it’s pretty terrible for a soccer match, I agree, but at least it’s a nice facility.

SJ got their stadium because AEG moved out.
Same thing happened in Houston. City refused to build Bud Adams a new stadium (b/c he wouldn’t share with the rodeo), so he moved to Nashville. Houston went without NFL for 4 or 5 years, then Harris Co was only too glad to build a new stadium for Bob McNair.
If AEG had never moved SJ would never have gotten serious about a SSS. Frustrating, but in the long run worth it.

Benefit to Dynamo – They get parking and concessions which they didn’t get at Robertson. They are the dominant user instead of the subordinate tenant – that means the grass will be optimized for soccer, not football. Should improve attendance (which is already 4th in MLS) because it’s more centrally located within stones throw of Minute Maid Park (Astros) and Toyota Center (Rockets)
This is another topic but it is ridiculous up here in the north. Since when should it cost over 300k for a 20 year old townhome! And I know that is low end. The north needs to come back to reality and get there prices back down. A family should not have to fork over over 750k for a decent sized home.
I’m happy that another MLS team appears headed towards a stadium! Go United!
this thing better be on par with Red Bull Arena. Every stadium built from here on should be. dear god please no concert stage. the Dynamo definitely deserve.

For the 20th Expansion team, I would love one in the Mid-Southeast. Atlanta? Raleigh/Cary? Charlotte? Tampa? Nashville?
There has been a huge immigration boom in the area in the last 5 years. So, that in addition to not having any teams south of DC/Columbus and east of Texas, this is a huge untapped market. Yes, an ownership group needs to step up. But there are USL/NASL teams here, maybe they could step up? (I’m looking at you Railhawks and Silverbacks)
