The U.S. national team's match against the Czech Republic has a confirmed location, and the game will bring the U.S. team back to Connecticut.

The U.S.-Czech Republic game on May 25 will be played at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, it was confirmed on Tuesday. This will be the second consecutive World Cup cycle that Rentschler Field holds a send-off series match, having previously hosted the friendly between the U.S. and Latvia in 2006.

The U.S. will follow up their game against the Czechs by playing Turkey on May 29 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Here are more stories from Tuesday:

Brazil blanks Ireland, 2-0

Brazil defeated Ireland 2-0 in its final friendly before its World Cup roster is due courtesy of an own goal from Keith Andrews and a second-half finish from Robinho

Brazil absorbed much of the pressure in the first half, but was gifted a goal when Keith Andrews knocked a Robinho cross into his own net. The Selecao's second goal was much prettier, as Robinho ending a nifty passing sequence with a one-time shot past Shay Given.

In case you missed it, here are the goals:

Wenger keen on Melo

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has expressed interest in Juventus midfielder Felipe Melo.

Arsenal pursued the Brazilian international last summer, but Melo signed with Juventus, where he has struggled to perform. Despite his subpar season, Melo is still seen as a quality player by Wenger, and one the French manager is keeping tabs on.

What do you think of the U.S.-Czech Republic match being held at Rentschler Field? Will you be attending the game? Think Ireland deserved to draw against Brazil? Would you like to see Melo on Arsenal?

  1. lol oh jeez… here we go with another dumb “Italy is bad!” comment. Go back to the 70s-80s and you may have a point with what you say, but now you’re just reverting back to easy-to-use stereotypes in situations that have no need for them.

  7. If I remember right the 06 sendoffs didn’t draw a big crowd, did they? Of course that was before Germany in which most American supporters were traveling to for the World Cup, I don’t think as many are heading to South Africa.

  8. As others have noted, on the first Brazil goal, Robinho was a good step offside…how are these linesman and refs missing these calls?? Officials at that level are SUPPOSED to be top notch. That was a call a high school ref probably would have gotten right. And once again, Ireland was on the receving end of poor officiating…

  9. i know they always do an east coast swing for world cups across the Atlantic but never any love for Texas. And they wonder why people like Mexico down here. Because Mexico actually plays games here!

  10. Bro the stadium is actually really nice, and was a good time 4yrs ago at the send off and pretty easliy accessible for a 7:30 midweek game.

I actually like the idea of smaller cities getting mid week games and larger cities (with more rush hour traffic) getting weekend games, worked out well with nashville this past year.

  12. RedBull arena is hosting the Czech-Turkey fixture. I think US Soccer just thought 25K was too small for a world cup sendoff.

Dunga will be second-guessed forever if Brazil fails to win and Dunga goes without Ronaldinho and Pato in favor of players like Ramieres or Adriano, both of whom did little yesterday in a decidedly mixed performance by the Selecao. Goals are at a premium in the World Cup and Dunga doesn’t seem to have that in mind right now. Ronaldinho, in good form as he is now, can change a match in an instant at any time through an impossible pass or individual effort, something no other Brazilian brings to the table, including Kaka and Robinho. Meanwhile, Brazil’s best three free kick takers are Ronaldinho, Dani Alves, and Alex, and only Alves seems assured of a place at this point, and as a sub. That means Dunga is leaving goal scoring opportunities off the pitch. The argument for Ronaldinho and Pato is only heightened by the fact that both are in good form and play together at AC Milan, whereas no other Brazilians in the attack play for the same club side. Brazil’s second goal demonstrates their ability to create magic absent that circumstance, but they had almost no “build-up” goal scoring opportunities otherwise. Brazil might win anyway, of course. But Dunga is taking an awful lot of chances and will, arguably, leave a starting XI off the world cup that might be better than the team he brings. I, for one, would love to see that game.

  16. Actually…the stadium in Connecticut (UConss throw ball stadium) was built with soccer matches very much in mind… I agree that it is a bit of a snub to RBA…that being said… it will sitll be a great atmosphere and also puts it in the middle of two very large Sams Army strongholds… Philly will draw the jersy folks while this match will pull from Boston, and New Yorkers..

  17. Bets for the day… can promise you that 2 of the 4 will hit…

Honduras +550 vs Turkey…sorry but Honduras is being snubbed by this line… no way is Turkey 4 times as likely to beat Honduras…

USA +650 vs Netherlands… again.. no way are the dutch 5 times more likely to win…the US has closed the gap considerably even without Gooch, Duece and Davies…

Cameroon +350 vs Italy… Italy has alredy said it will tool around.. Cameroon is taking this game seriously…

Ghana +250 vs Bosnia Herz… sorry this won just kicked off… Ghana will win…

I also won easy on the South Korea match.. for all Ivory Coasts talent..they are sure are in shambles.. oh well easy money for me…

  18. I don’t get it, you have a brand new one of a kind soccer-specific stadium in the Tri-State Area (Red Bull Park) and you choose to play in some crappy CT stadium? Come on, I don’t care if it is only 25,000, that place would be a great showcase for the US team. I don’t get this decision at all by the US Federation!

  20. I just don’t like Melo. At all. That arrogant heir, sense of entitlement, dirty challenges. He’s one of those players who makes me despise whatever team he’s playing for; In short, I wish he didn’t play for Brazil. Italy, sure, he’d fit right in.
