U.S. Crest

By FRANCO PANIZO

The U.S. national team's match against the Czech Republic has a confirmed location, and the game will bring the U.S. team back to Connecticut.

The U.S.-Czech Republic game on May 25 will be played at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, it was confirmed on Tuesday. This will be the second consecutive World Cup cycle that Rentschler Field holds a send-off series match, having previously hosted the friendly between the U.S. and Latvia in 2006.

The U.S. will follow up their game against the Czechs by playing Turkey on May 29 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Here are more stories from Tuesday:

Brazil blanks Ireland, 2-0

Brazil defeated Ireland 2-0 in its final friendly before its World Cup roster is due courtesy of an own goal from Keith Andrews and a second-half finish from Robinho

Brazil absorbed much of the pressure in the first half, but was gifted a goal when Keith Andrews knocked a Robinho cross into his own net. The Selecao's second goal was much prettier, as Robinho ending a nifty passing sequence with a one-time shot past Shay Given.

In case you missed it, here are the goals:

Wenger keen on Melo

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has expressed interest in Juventus midfielder Felipe Melo.

Arsenal pursued the Brazilian international last summer, but Melo signed with Juventus, where he has struggled to perform. Despite his subpar season, Melo is still seen as a quality player by Wenger, and one the French manager is keeping tabs on.

What do you think of the U.S.-Czech Republic match being held at Rentschler Field? Will you be attending the game? Think Ireland deserved to draw against Brazil? Would you like to see Melo on Arsenal?

  2. So I guess Gillette stadium is putting in some NEW STYLE TURF that is supposed to be approved by FIFA to hold int’l matches including potential World Cup ie 2018 or 2022. Anyone seen this type of new fiber turf? I’m not sure I like the sound of it but Bob Kraft and his crew are putting the new Turf down as we speak. I’d rather see grass myself.

  3. quite frankly, i dont care what businesses are located in bridgeport, i can assure you NONE of the employees of those corporate HQ’s are living in bridgeport. And it’s NOT more accessible than the red bull arena, thats where your’e wrong. The PATH runs a couple blocks away and goes through the west village all the way to penn station. That means anyone from LI, NYC, NJ can all take public transportation to the game. That can’t be said for bridgeport. Amtrak is expensive, so the only alternative is a bus or metro north. The area around the bridgport station isnt suited for a stadium so you’re talking about moving it more down by the water, and would need a way to get there. Bridgeport is an AWFUL idea for a stadium location. COrporate presence has nothing to do with a stadium. ANd oh, GE isn’t in bridgeport, its stamford, and BIC isn’t in bridgeport either.

  4. Not really. I support equal pay for equal work and believe that a woman is entitled to make her own decisions like any other human being. I just happen to think that women’s soccer is two rungs below drying paint on the hierarchy of interesting things to watch.

If it makes you feel any better, it is still above basketball (all forms) and The Ellen Degeneres Show.

  7. A great way to show your potential new employers how committed you are would be to call them up and say that you can’t make it because you need to go to a bar and watch the game, and ask to reschedule “for a time more convenient for [you].” They will respect your devotion to U.S. Soccer and say “hey, that’s the kind of team spirit we need at [company]!!! Sign this guy up!”

  8. Ha.. now that was a show. But some of these college kids here won’t remember that one. You should go on youtube and look up Bigfoot and Wild Boy (which was my favorite part of Puff-n-Stuff) Its total awesomeness.

  9. Doesn’t Luis Fabiano just slot right in when he’s healthy? Would you start either of those guys over Fabiano just because they play together?

In the past, Brazil had flair. What makes them so dangerous this time around is the grit to match the flair.

  10. Yep! Seems like the Irish keep getting the shaft huh? If you stop the video at 44 seconds you will clearly see Robinho offsides.

ITs the luck of the Irish. OR nobody on the team ate their Lucky Charms for breakfast.

  11. Why isn’t the USMNT playing any games at higher altitudes? The South Africa locations are primarily at higher altitude locations. Wouldn’t it make sense to train and play at altitudes similar to the World Cup venues? Training at sea level (California, Florida, etc.), and playing at lower altitudes is going to result in the USMNT being gassed during games just like the Confederations Cup final. Hopefully Bradley does some training at a higher elevation in the coming months.

  12. The Georgia dome would work – if we did Mexico USA here, it would sell out in a heartbeat. They sold out Venezuela/Mexico for crying out loud and shut down the whole city traffic wise!

Plus, the way the dome is set up, the fans are right on top of the players since there isn’t much space left over.

  13. I live in Atlanta as well and I guess in response to Aaron’s question – we have the Georgia Dome that hosted AC Milan-Club America over the summer and it did a pretty good job in my own opinion. It may not be the “most” conducive place to hold matches, but it definitely gets the job done and can fit a huge amount of spectators. Right now thats probably our only option, but I agree with Erik, we should get some USMNT love at some point!

Either way, see you all in Philly for the send-off!!!

  14. The red bull arena is walking distance from both Amtrak, and PATH. The PATH connects to newark airport and NYC (and thus ct and westchester and LI s well). Nothing professional will ever be in bridgeport. It’s a terrible city with no attractions and nothing going for it. Bridgeport is a cesspool, I know firsthand. No MLS team would consider it, and rightfully so. THe closest theyll get is the minor league baseball team thats up there now

  15. Just saw on the BBC Football ‘rumor’ page that Bolton want to pick up that year option on Stu…

It’d be nice if he could come away from a solid (I hope) WC performance and sign with a better team, but worst case at least his current manager wants him. Hopefully Bolton can stay up.

  16. No, what he’s saying (in case you didn’t watch the game) is that Dinho and Pato have a lot of chemistry since they play together at Milan and they can bring much more to the table than what Adriano and Ramirez and maybe even Melo can. if you saw the 1st half you could see that Brazil is missing a lot flair. a Robinho, fabiano….Dinho, Kaka, Elano, Pato would be crazy, and would create a lot of goal of opportunities. Having said that I think Dungas way of thinking is more defensive hence Melo, ramirez and gilberto silva. but not attractive soccer at all.
