  1. Thank you Ives for posting this. Great to see the Bayern machine in form. Although they started the BL off slow, this die Rotten has the potential of mirroring the Bayern of old, 70s-80s. Robben’s blast was a thing of absolute beauty, and hopefully advancing will keep Ribery’s interest peeked about the possibilities with Bayern.

  2. I don’t care about either team, but Bayern doesn’t deserve to be in the final 8. Fiorentina were absolutely robbed w/ the ridiculous non-offside goal in the first leg.

  3. I was joining in the joke–trust me PetedeLa, I “got it.” Both are great goals in their own right. I think we agree that there is no need for comparison–just admiration.

  4. There are plenty of reasons not to like Hoeness, but he does have a heart.

He’s helped many financially strapped teams out by having Bayern play friendlies and letting the broke team collect the cash.

As a Sankt Pauli fan, I am very grateful for his generosity. Just my two cents.

Also, he has single handedly increased newspaper sales in Germany by at least 10% due to his ridiculous quotes. (You can’t take his sensationalist quotes too seriously, my friend.)

  5. This is great but I prefer Nasri’s Messi impression. there’s something to truly awesome in powerful blasts like Robben’s though.

“Even more impressed now that Robben didn’t score vs. the United States?” I’m definitely one who thinks we played the Dutch and all their stars well. Outside of he-who-shall-not-be-mentioned’s blunders that game was had draw written all over – which to me would have been a great success with the team we put on the field.

“See Bayern making some noise in the Champions League quarterfinals?” F Bayern and Uli Hoeness. They are by far may least favorite/most hated club team in the world. I may reconsider once Hoeness is no longer there. Was fuer ein Arschloch!

  6. Ha, I was actually just making fun of the guy who made that stupid comment about Nasri’s goal. I totally think Robben’s goal was sweet as hell and took incredible skill to score…

  7. Daniel R. – I played around with the slider bar for a few second (moving it back and forth and it suddenly started playing. Not sure if that is a real fix or not…)

Robben is a monster and this was a truly incredible goal. I’m still a bit more in awe of Nasri’s goal but that is probably more personal preference than an attempt to rate them. Goals like Nasri’s might also be a little more rare, but not sure that makes it any ‘better.’

Anyway, what a brilliant day for football. One can only hope today’s clashes offer anything close to these inspired moments.

  8. Well done, sir. And shouldn’t we compare and contrast the level of difficulty between this goal and Nasri’s goal? I mean, other than requiring very different skill sets, the goals are basically the same thing, right?

  9. I mean, the defense just stood around while Robben had the space to unleash a perfect shot, and I feel like the goalie could have tried a little harder. But I guess it was a nice goal once you take away all the other team’s faults…

  10. Unbelievable strike from Robben. Pumped Bayern is thru to the final 8 yet again!
IMO Robben has been the difference maker for Munich this year. I’d take him over Ribery any day.

  11. I hadn’t seen either goal until just now on this site. Wow. They were both things of beauty. I don’t know why there is this need to have to compare and and always say which one is “better”. Probably part of our American mentality that if you are not the best you are nothing. I could watch both of these over and over. Truly world class.
