SBI Fantasy MLS Season ready to kick off

MLS_Logo

The 2010 MLS season is two days away, as is the start of the newest Fantasy MLS season.

With Major League Soccer doing away with its official fantasy game, SBI's Fantasy MLS League will be heading to a new home this season. Our league will be at http://mfls.com. To secure the password to join the SBI Fantasy MLS League, please send an email to SBIFantasySoccer@gmail.com and we will send you the league password.

While you wait for the password you can begin to build your team on the SBI league's site. We will look to answer all password requests by Thursday afternoon, ahead of the MLS season opener in Seattle between the Sounders and Philadelphia Union.

I know we promised prizes last year, but this year SBI will be securing some sponsors for prizes and we will be announcing those prizes before the end of the month.

Will you be playing fantasy MLS this season? Who do you see having big fantasy MLS seasons?

  1. Been playing MLS fantasy for some year some basic tips for the new players:

    *Pick starters/90 minute players

    *Pick proven/experience MLS players

*Offensive players on good high scoring teams

*Pick your team for the long term…don’t try to kill it first week

*Spread players across league… too many players on one squad…if they lose or get shutout your going down in the standings for certain

*Penalty takers are good but don’t rely on them

*Stay away from rookies until they get extended run in the team

*Pay attention to injuries and suspensions there are no substitutions if players don’t play

  3. Always transfer out a player whose transfer value is equal to or greater than the player you are bringing in. If the transfer value is equal, there is no penalty. If the guy leaving has a greater transfer value, you bank the difference into your slush fund. If the guy leaving has lesser transfer fee than the guy arriving, the difference is first paid out of your slush fund, then if there is any remaining difference, out of your salary cap. Slush fund can go up or down as transfers are performed. BUT!!! Cap lost to pay for a transfer fee is *permanently* lost and cannot be recovered! Doing this is a huge mistake, as it greatly restricts your ability to make future moves. Always try to build up a healthy slush fund early in the season so it does not become an issue …

  4. If you have not played before, word of advice:

    1) Don’t use cap room to pay transfer fees.

    2) Don’t blow all your transfers in the first few weeks of the season.

  5. When I first participated in MFLS some 8-9 years ago I was first in week 15 and then ended up coming 16th at the end of the season. Most fun I ever had with a fantasy team. I tied the other fantasy MLS games but none had MFLS’s simplicity. Haven’t played in 6-7 years but will def play this year.

    Thanks Ives.

  6. they have like over 20-30k from what I remember… that’s pretty good compared to mfls.com that has only at like 1.5k… I think it might have something to do with them moving to a new site. They didn’t want to start it up on the old site since they are planning on moving to a new one relatively soon. It just sucks because I liked the way that one was set up more than mfls… but oh well it’ll do I guess.
