  1. Ithink this time gunners can make it to the finals.even if they have never won this cup, they can make their own history.

  2. an all england final would be boring like manu vs chealsi was wrong team won that 1. Barca is best by far of final 8 just depends on luck to lose to any1 tho. Barca is the only team i want in final none play better the way futbol should be played not the defensive mode of the english teams. All teams that play barca just play defensive hoping to catch a counter cause they can’t match barca’s attack even the english armada which is all boring except for Arsenal.

  3. the ajax team in 1995 were as complete if not the most complete team ever seen in the champions league/european cup. They were young too and were made up of 13 dutch players 2 nigerians and a Finn + a dutch manager. they were very unlucky to lose to juve the next season in the final. Kluivert came on and scored the winner.

    Starters:
GK 1 Netherlands Edwin van der Sar
    RB 2 Netherlands Michael Reiziger
CB 3 Netherlands Danny Blind (C)
LB 5 Netherlands Frank de Boer
    DM 4 Netherlands Frank Rijkaard
    CM 6 Netherlands Clarence Seedorf
    CM 8 Netherlands Edgar Davids
    AM 10 Finland Jari Litmanen
    RW 7 Nigeria Finidi George
CF 9 Netherlands Ronald de Boer
    LW 11 Netherlands Marc Overmars

    Subs.

    GK 12 Netherlands Fred Grim
    DF 13 Netherlands Winston Bogarde
FW 14 Nigeria Nwankwo Kanu Substituted on in the 54th minute for Seedorf.

FW 15 Netherlands Patrick Kluivert Substituted on in the 69th minute for Litmanen.

FW 16 Netherlands Peter van Vossen

  4. Don’t count out Lyon or Bayern Munich as these teams can match up with any of the remaining teams. Recall Lyon just knocked Real Madrid out – and they come ready to play in every game.

  5. Yes, a lot can change with injuries, players not panning out, etc., but there are so many good young German stars — Ozil, Badstuber, Muller, Hummels, the Bender twins, Kroos, Howdes, Neuer — that their 2014 WC chances have to be considered pretty good.

  7. Watching Barca is one of the great joys in life. Whether it’s a game when they are given room to create truly artistic football or grinding out a win versus a team bunkered in because they know they are over matched (ala Chelsea), I’m always thouroughly entertained.

  8. I voted Bordeaux solely because I believe Gourcuff is the most underrated player in the World right now. If he’d have stayed at AC Milan then he’d be compared to Kaka but he missed his family and went back to Bordeaux

  9. If Barca plays like they did yesterday, I doubt anyone can beat them. However, all they need is an off day and anything can happen. I’m rooting for Lyon, as they displayed some impressive underdog football over the past few legs. Great stuff.

  10. Gunners always seem to be getting by the skin of our teeth.

Don’t count us out with any draw!

What I would like to see is a Bordeaux v Arsenal draw to watch Chamakh play against is new club. For the finals it would be nice to see Man U v Arsenal, of course Arsenal wins the CL and continues to win the EPL.

  11. I’m excited to see two French teams and a Russian team in the final eight.

I would enjoy seeing something new in the final — Arsenal v Lyon or something like that.

It’s probably wishful thinking, but if I never saw ManU play again I wouldn’t shed a single tear.

  12. Barca/ Inter final COME ONNNNNN.

Mourinho takes down Barca IN Madrid, then takes over Los Galacticos to lead them to the final next year.

  13. Completely agree with you. I would be nice to have a David vs Goliath final – although we probably know how it would end up.

  14. I’d love to see Arsenal win, but Martek’s got a point–seeing Barca win in RM’s backyard would just be too awesome!!

Otherwise, I’d love to see Lyon break through–it’d be nice to see a team from outside the big four leagues win.

  15. I think you have a good point on Robben. Him and Ribery on the wings is very dangerous.

I don’t know how many people follow die Bundesliga, but Bayern have been very impressive this year bringing in several youngsters who have impressed greatly. It’s a testament to the gaffer who showed faith in them.

On Barca though, it’s very hard to repeat as champs – has it ever been done? I can’t remember off the top of my head.

  16. You are correct. If they take hom the CL and win the La Liga they will go down as one of the best, if not the best, team the last few decades.

  17. I actually have no idea who will win the UEFA Champions League, but I’ll tell you this, the prospect of seeing Barcelona defend and then parade that cup through the streets around the Bernabeu would be the highlight of 2010 for me. Stick it in El Generalissimo’s grave!

  18. Yeah, and over Sevilla, too. Wasn’t La Liga supposed to be head and shoulders the best league in the world? The term “top heavy” comes to mind. . . .

  19. I can see Bayern taking it if Robben stays healthy. Having watched them at their best, they can stay with anyone. Obviously, Barca have to be heavy, heavy favorites, but if anyone can beat them, it’s “Buyern” or (hack, hack) Man U.

  20. I’m just happy to see 2 French teams still alive and a Russian team.

Don’t discount Bayern this year – they were on the ropes against Juventus and Fiorentina and pulled out away wins both times.

If I have to see Braca or Man U again in the final I will probably skip it.

  21. I agree with a better match with arsenal vs manu but I want to see manu redeem themselves from last years disappointing game… they got the tactics wrong last year and they would make the same mistake twice. all english final wouldnt be as glamorous though

  22. I’d argue that the way Champions League’s structure is set, it’s much more fair than say…UEFA World Cup qualification. The structure of UEFA Euro and WC qualification gives less-skilled “smaller” nations ZERO chance of qualifying, as we saw with UEFA’s ridiculous decision to seed the teams before the playoffs for the last few spots.

The equal draw for all 8 remaining teams (and all 16 after the group stage) gives all teams the same shot. Why is this a problem? I don’t want to see ManUtd and Barca dismantled smaller teams all the way until they get to the semis.

  23. I’m equally tired of Barcelona and ManYoo. I’m rooting for a surprising final with no English teams, something that hasn’t happened since Porto’s win in 2004. A final between Bayern Munich and Lyon would be awesome.

  24. With the final being on FOX, I’m sure that they are going to try to push for the two teams to be well recognized, so they will put Barca and Man Utd as far away from each other as possible (ie the only way they will meet is in the final). As much as this is a soccer competition, it is also a huge money maker, so UEFA will give itself the best chance to make money (ie, the way they did for World Cup qualifying).

That being said, Barca or Man Utd will win it (hoping United, as I am a United supporter), but you can’t deny that Barca is playing some of the best soccer in the world right now.

  25. Nah man, we have already seen a barcelona vs man u game last year, and that was one of the most boring game i ever seen. ESPN hyped it up, casuals listened and watched and came out unimpressed. What we need is for a Manchester United vs Arsenal game. That game always is fast pace with thrills. And with the Final being on national TV (Fox 5), a MAn U vs Arsenal is a win/win.

  26. If Barca play like they did yesterday no one will beat them. No one. They were unreal. Taking a page from the Dutch that was “total football.” Barca has to be the favorites and rightfully so. There are going to be some great matchups in the Quarters but in the end it’s Barca’s trophy to lose. It’s debatable but Barca could have the best collection of players in the last 25 years. Like I said it’s debatable but I can’t, off the top of my head, think of any club so deep and talented the last 25 years.

  27. If there’s any combination that pits one of Barcelona, Manchester United, Inter Milan, or Arsenal together…that is going to change the how outlook of this tournament. Could end up seeing a ‘smaller’ side win the whole thing as Porto did earlier this decade.
