It was a topsy-turvy weekend for the Americans Abroad contingent as some players enjoyed individual or team success while others had games they would like to forget.
Maurice Edu and DaMarcus Beasley added to their Scottish League Cup championship as Rangers secured its second consecutive Scottish League title with a 1-0 win over Hibernian. Edu started and played 90 minutes in the victory while DaMarcus Beasley did not dress.
This weekend wasn't so kind to Jozy Altidore. The American international started for Hull City in its vital match against Sunderland, but he was red carded just before halftime for head-butting an opponent. To make matters worse, Hull City is all but doomed for relegation after the 1-0 defeat as the club needs to win both its remaining games and make up a goal differential of 23.

England

- Tim Howard started, played 90 minutes and made two saves in Everton's 2-1 win vs. Fulham on Sunday.
- Jozy Altidore started, played 45 minutes and received a red card for a head butt in Hull City 's 1-0 loss vs. Sunderland on Saturday.
- Clint Dempsey started and played 90 minutes in Fulham's 2-1 loss vs. Everton on Sunday.
- Jonathan Spector started, played 90 minutes, received a yellow card and scored an own goal in West Ham United's 3-2 win vs. Wigan on Saturday.

the current team the us has is one of the best weve ever had. they beat the number one ranked team in the world for starters. their actually favored to get out of their group in the world cup also which is pretty rare for the usa. as far as the debate to whether this is the best team we ever had? i dont know but i can tell you a few things. 1. howard is arguable the best goalie we ever had (friedal id say is still better) 2. landon donovan and clint dempsey are the best outside midis weve ever had. 3. the denfense is the best weve ever had with onyewu boca spector/dolo demerit. 4. though o brein and renya are probably better then bradley/edu you cant deny having two veery talented guys who both start in decent(in edus case very good) european clubs isnt an accomplishment in itself. 5. though the foward line doesnt have mcbride doesnt mean its bad. altidore has proven he can hold his own and davies is arguable the most electric fwd weve had since donovan in 02 and even if davies doesnt start we can turn to gomez or ching who can do their job as his replacment
I totally agree that relevant experience in competitive clubs is a good measure of talent going into the cup. i would just note that Spector and Dolo are on the wrong end of some awful scores of late, and have contributed to some gaffs as well. In that regard, sometimes you can throw someone who is less talented, but used to winning in a lower division, into these tournaments and they can acquit themselves quite well. We need winners, not experienced losers. Bob should consider the best MLS has to offer on Defense.
Drogba and Kalou are from the same country but you can’t lump Essien in with them, he is from Ghana.
Not to mention, how did Ivory Coast fair in the African cup of Nations? Who else plays for Ivory Coast that is near the caliber of these two players. We don’t have a Drogba, but we have players of Kalou’s talent level.
He’s back, bitches.
