The San Jose Earthquakes are red hot and come to Home Depot Center tonight to take on a slumping Chivas USA team in need of a victory.

Chivas USA is fresh off a very disappointing 3-0 loss on the road at Houston last week, while the visiting San Jose Earthquakes are on a two game winning streak, including last week's 2-0 victory at home against the New England Revolution.

This is Adam Serrano providing you commentary from the Home Depot Center in Carson, California. As always, you are welcome to share your own thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.

Enjoy the action. (Commentary below the jump)

FINAL – For San Jose, their failures against Chivas USA continue as the club falls to 0-3-2 since returning to the league. The club was unable to get anything started tonight from an offense standpoint and was too easily handled by Chivas USA. The club remained its opportunistic self on the two goals, but it was simply not enough tonight against the Rojiblancos.

I'm heading into the press conferences now, check back to SBI for further coverage tonight. Thank you for following along.

FINAL – Chivas USA responds incredibly well to road loss against Houston and earns an impressive 3-2 victory against San Jose. The scoreline badly flatters the Earthquakes as San Jose was not a major factor tonight in a match clearly dominated by the Rojiblancos.

I'm going to give Co-Man of the Match honors to Sacha Kljestan and Mariano Trujillo for incredibly impressive performances by the Rojiblancos. Kljestan was the vocal leader on the field for the Red and White and did a fantastic job orchestrating the match tonight.  Trujillo was equally impressive as the defender fired a number of timely crosses that was too much for San Jose.

———————–

79th Minute – It's a night of debuts as the match is the league debut for Carlos Borja, a southern California native from Orange, California. This game is also an MLS debut for Brad Ring for the Earthquakes.

78th Minute – midfielder Carlos Borja preparing to come into the match for Chivas USA. Michael Umana will be coming off.

———————–

76th Minute – CRAZY sequence right now off the corner. Ryan Johnson with from the corner that Dario Delgado heads off the line. The ball falls to Ike Opara who barely misses Thornton's net. TENSE moments right now at HDC.

———————–

73rd Minute – Wondolowski is booked for the little strife and Umana is back on the field as Chivas USA earns the corner.

———————–

73rd Minute –Getting pretty heated right now as Thornton has to come up and make a big save off Ryan Johnson. Kljestan has some harsh words for Wondolowski who appeared angered that the play was stopped due to an injured Michael Umana.

———————–

———————–

48th Minute- Back under way here at the Home Depot Center.

———————–

HALFTIME- Chivas USA will head into the locker room very upset not to be leading right now. The Rojiblancos dominated the first half and controlled the game against the Earthquakes, but were unlucky to fall down due to a questionable penalty.

For Frank Yallop's Earthquakes, the team has to be ecstatic right now as if the result holds, they will have a very important point on the road. The Earthquakes will need to play better however, as the club suffered from a possession standpoint in the first half.

If you're following along, let me know in the comments section.

———————–

45th Minute – Chivas USA earn a corner.

———————–

45th Minute – 1 minute of stoppage.

———————–

45th Minute – Interesting way to end the half for Chivas USA. Martin Vasquez will need to light a fire under this team that is appearing pretty flat right now, after looking so confident before tehe goal.

———————–

43Rd Minute-Suspect call in my opinion, both Bornstein and Wondolowski were going for the ball and fell on each other. Very interesting call as the linesman made the decision to point to the spot. Nightmare for Chivas USA.

———————–

41th Minute-  WONDOLOWSKI CONVERTS! Earthquakes 1 Chivas USA 1

———————–

———————–

31st Minute-And the worst nearly happens for the Red and White, A steal on the other side of the field allows the Earthquakes to feed a streaking Wondolowski, but San Jose is unable to get off a shot.

———————–

30th Minute- The Rojiblancos seem content to just hold on to possession, spray the ball around and make the Earthquakes work for the ball. Danger of getting hit on the counter however.

———————–

27th Minute- Chivas USA's crowd is alive right now. The folks here are looking pretty active and the Union Ultras (Chivas USA supporters group) are in full voice.

———————–

26th Minute- A complete wonder strike by the Chivas USA captain. The Quakes simply give the midfielder way too much room and he fires it in the top right corner past a diving Cannon from about 26 yards out. Goal of the week candidate right there.

———————–

25th Minute- CHIVAS USA GOAL!!!!! SACHA KLJESTAN FROM DISTANCE!!

———————–

23rd Minute- NEAR MISS! Lahoud with a cross to Padilla in the box, but the ball goes off Padilla's foot and goes just wide of Cannon's net. Not sure if that was off his foot intentionally or not.

———————–

20th Minute- Harsh non call as Corrales delivers a foul on a streaking Lahoud just outside the box. Very harsh, but Ref Edvin Jurisevic swallows his whistle.

————————

5th Minute – Corner for Chivas.

————————

————————

1st Minute – And. Here. We. Go. Kick off at the Home Depot Center, Chivas in their red and whites while the Earthquakes in their standard blacks.

————————

PRE-GAME:  One late scratch from the Earthquakes line up is Brazilian playmaker Andre Luiz. Starting in his place will be Salvadoran Captain Ramon Sanchez. Tonight is Salvadorian night at the Home Depot Center so maybe Frank Yallop got the memo, but Martin Vasquez didn't.

————————

PRE-GAME:  Tonight's match will come down to the midfield for the Rojiblancos as it will be very interesting to see if Chivas USA midfielder Sacha Kljestan and make an impact for a Chivas team that badly needs a spark. The club will also throw Ben Zemanski into the line up, giving the former Akron Zip his first start.

On the other hand, the Earthquakes will look to remain their energetic selves tonight at the Home Depot Center. The club is boosted by defender Ike Opara, who was questionable due to commitments at Wake Forrest. Lucky for Frank Yallop's side, the defender arrived in Los Angeles late last night to appear in the game and will be returning to North Carolina after the match.

————————

PRE-GAME:  Tonight two teams face off that are clearly going in two different directions. San Jose comes in with a record of 2-1 and a two game wining streak. Chivas USA is coming off a very disappointing loss on the road against the Houston Dynamo and will need to respond to avoid falling into a very dangerous early season slip. History is on the side of the Rojiblancos, since the Earthquakes rebirth in 2008, San Jose is winless against Chivas USA with a 0-2-2 record.

Comments

  1. SJ looked second best the entire night. IMO the better team on the night won. SJ needs to stop with so many lob passes and play through the mid-field.

  2. How did the ref not call that penalty when Opara was taken down in the box in the 76th minute? Should have been a tied game… Man I hate Chivas USA
