Seattle Sounders at FC Dallas: Your Running Commentary

DAL_Primary_COL SEA_Primary_COL

FC Dallas plays host to the Seattle Sounders tonight at Pizza Hut Park in a key Western Conference match-up (8pm, ESPN2).

The Sounders are still looking for their first road win of the season and will take on a Dallas team that scored a pair of draws in its first two home matches and is still searching for its first win in 2010.

The Sounders will be looking to get more out of its attack, which has struggled to score goals at a high rate, while FC Dallas will look to fix its own goal-scoring woes as Jeff Cunningham looks to overcome a terrible performance last weeek against New York.

Who is my pick tonight? I'll go with FC Dallas to continue to struggle with its finishing, while the Sounders put together a strong road showing in a 2-0 win.

If you will be watching tonight's match, please feel free to share your thoughts, opinions and some play-by-play in the comments section below.

Enjoy the action.

  1. Look at a map – Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, TX is about 40 minutes’ drive north of downtown Dallas according to Google maps. That time doesn’t account for traffic, plus part of it is toll roads. It’s just too far from the majority of the population of the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area. A casual fan might make the effort to go once… but probably not. Especially on a weeknight.

If the Sounders played in Everett or Olympia instead of downtown Seattle, they probably would not sell 40,000 tickets a game. I think they have a much stronger fan base than Dallas and would still draw a decent crowd, but still, people are less likely to go if it requires that much time to get there.

  2. The difference is throwing the ball 15 yards from the spot is somethng that is very rarely called. Perhaps there needs to be a league-wide policy to start enforcing that, but until there is, you can’t enforce it only 10-20 percent of the time.

  3. Unless you are pretty far over in Missouri, you can get to it from pretty much anywhere in the metro in a half hour. KC public transit is a crappy bus system, driving is the norm here.

  4. I think it is blatantly obvious that suburban stadiums are not nearly as successful as urban stadiums near public transportation. MLS needs to learn their fan base is not soccer moms and their kids, but the YUPIE crowd in diverse cities. Doesnt take a marketing genious to figure this out.

  5. yeah but blowing the whistle for an bad throw-in is a completely different game changing scenario than calling a bad PK in the final min of stoppage time

  6. I was at the game. There two or three times the fans on the side of the stadium where the supporters groups sit. Still attendance was pitiful. I live in Fort Worth and the park is 40 minutes from me. The park is 20 to 30 minutes north of Dallas. This leaves out all south Dallas fans. The main issues are FCD is trying to catch up after all of the nonsense soccer mom marketing. Also the front office has not been very good. Things seem to be getting better until I see the attendance.

  7. According to the Director of Referee, Seattle’s game winning goal against Kansas City should not have been allowed last week for throwing in 15 yards too far. So perhaps it is Karma.

  8. Its funny how Seattle has had more PKs against them in this game than they’ve been awarded since they came in the league….just sayin’

  9. Agree. There have been SOOO many PK’s this season. It’s ruining games. I wish there was some stats showing PK’s called this far into the season compared to other years. It must blow them away. I’m not gonna support this kind of diving and rewarding if they keep up these soft game changing calls.

  10. Shameless plug here… Who had Cunningham (2 goals), Montero (goal)and Ozzie Alonso (assist) in his fantasy lineup? This guy!!! Missed Zakuani, and I did captain Montero this week but wish it was Cunny now lol, but Seattle got 2 this week

  11. No but I heard it was a decent location. Was also told that it’s a spread-out city like St. Louis and Dallas so it’s hard to say what’s central. Is it pretty bad and far out?

  12. Another example of the f’ing pathetic reffing in MLS. Perhaps the MLS should start investing in some quality refs from Europe. DP slots for refs. These jokersthey have now have ruined so many games…..

  13. seattle will never have a 7-10-13 season so we will never know (unless the refs keep giving the games away like tonight that is)

  14. Apparently Freddy falling over in the mid of the field isn’t enough to get a call, but if you try to force your way through two defenders in the last 30 seconds you get a call. How do you make that call in stopage time or for that matter at any point in the game. He sure wasn’t calling that on either team in the middle of the field.

  15. That was no foul at all. An absolute joke. The MLS is ruining itself with the poor refereeing.

That guy should lose his job. I really want to punch that smug look off his face.

  16. Yeah definitely. I’m just as guilty as everyone else, but when we rag on a team for attendance, pretty much the only people who see the criticism are the ones attending the games who can’t do much more besides exposing friends.

  17. The just showed the view from behind and Hertado goes in and misses the ball blocking the Dallas player going forward. It could have not been given but it was definitely a foul. Fouls like that are called outside the box all game long. If it happens in the box it’s a pk

  18. Seattle are a garbage side. Get stuck in on them and they fold. Glad to see everyone has figured them out.

By the end of a 7-10-13 season, they’ll be drawing fewer than 10k a game. Especially with the Seahawks on the rise.
