The U.S. men's national team will hold it's pre-World Cup training camp at Princeton University from May 17-23.

The team will hold its final camp at Roberts Stadium on the campus of Princeton University before playing its final two matches on home soil before the World Cup, vs the Czech Republic on May 25 and Turkey on May 29.

U.S. national team head coach Bob Bradley is a Princeton product and coached the Tigers from 1984 to 1995.

Bradley is expected to call in a squad of 26 or so players for the training camp, where the final World Cup roster spots are likely to be decided.

All training sessions are closed to the public.

  1. The biggest problem Adu seems to have is that he never learned the mental aspects of how to be a top pro; things like tactics, keeping in shape, when to keep it simple, how to work on your physical conditioning, etc. etc.

People call this being savvy. A large part of that is that Adu seems to think he doesn’t need to learn this stuff. In other words he has a big head.

Instead of wasting everyone’s time and space he should be shut out of the camp and realize that yeah he really does need to step things up if he wants to be anything like the player is supposed to be.

Being invited to World Cup camp like that is a reward for pros who really want to try and be the best not some entitled punk who thinks he should be handed everything on a silver platter.

  2. Yeah, it really is sad, not just for the fans, but more so for Davies, since he was so intent on being match fit for the World Cup. I think that the initial prognosis of 6-12 months was not just for getting back to walking and running normally, but also for getting back to match fitness. None of us can probably imagine how difficult this rehab is, particularly since soccer is one of the most demanding sports in the world.

That being said, I still feel Bradley calls him into camp. Who knows, he may be able to play in a friendly or two, and depending on his performance, may get included in the final roster of 23. Still, not playing in Ligue 1 indicates that Sochaux hasn’t seen enough to merit a return to the field.

  3. Adu should be brought in for camp. If nothing else but more prep for the next cycle. He still has potential. If he can find it

  4. Papi, I’d respectfully disagree that they were not acclimatized. Look at the FIFA stats for “distance covered” over those first matches. Those stats don’t suggest fitness issues. What they weren’t acclimatized to was the officiating.

  5. This from Sochaux President: Charlie Davies will not play in Ligue 1 this year. Bummer, was hoping he had a shot at the 2010 World Cup.
