New England Revolution midfielder Shalrie Joseph, one of the top players in Major League Soccer, has entered the league's substance abuse and behavioral health program, the Boston Globe reported late on Monday.
The Revs announced on Monday that Joseph was on indefinite leave from the team, but it was unclear why. Team sources have told the Boston Globe that Joseph was now taking part in the MLS substance abuse and behavioral program.
Joseph had missed all but one match for the Revs this season due to a hip injury, but now it is unclear just how long he will be out.
Here are some other stories to get your Wednesday going:
BAYERN TROUNCES LYON
Ivica Olic scored a hat-trick to lead Bayern Munich to the UEFA Champions League final after a commanding 3-0 win vs. Lyon in France.
The win means Bayern Munich will now face the winner of the Barcelona-Inter Milan semifinal, which will be settled today with the second leg being played in Spain.
Bayern Munich became the first German team since 2002 to reach the Champions League final.
If Bayern Munich is going to win the Champions League title, it will need to do so without Franck Ribery, who has been suspended for the final after his red card suspension in Bayern's semifinal first-leg win vs. Lyon.
BRAZIL PASSES SPAIN IN FIFA RANKINGS
There is a new No. 1 atop the FIFA World Rankings.
Brazil moved pass Spain this month, snapping Spain's five-month run atop the standings.
The United States moved up two places to No. 14, while Mexico stood pat at No. 17.
Of the United States' World Cup opponents, England dropped a place to No. 8, Slovenia moved up six places to No. 23, and Algeria dropped four spots to No. 31.
ESTUDIANTES WIN IN LIBERTADORES
Argentina club Estudiantes fielded a second-choice squad for its Round of 16 first-leg match against San Luis and still managed a 1-0 away win.
Chivas de Guadalajara had more luck than San Luis, posting a 3-0 rout against Velez Sarsfield in their Round of 16 first-leg match in Mexico.

Looks like Torres played 80 minutes.
I’m as nosy and curious as anyone, but I wish the Revs and everyone around them would have just said Shalrie Joseph has left the team to attend to personal matters and left it at that.
It seems to me that he and he alone should have the right to decide if and when very personal matters should be made public.
Pachuca got a goal in injury time and are ConcaChampions 1-0, 1-2 with an away goal, by the way.
Didn’t see it, just saw the result in Mexican news sources.
I know I’m late here(another time zone and life happening), but I’m just wondering why SBI makes no mention anywhere today of the ConcaChampions final game.
Just for curiosity I looked in a couple Costa Rican and Honduran newspaper sites, and one Jamaican one and found no mention of it either.(Good old Latin America Network Information Center at U of Texas).
Mexican papers cover it, but even with 2 Mexican sides in I don’t get the feeling it’s taken all that seriously.
So once again I ask, is a tournament played mostly by 2nd division squads and youth development teams something Concacaf should even bother with?
I can’t see a tournament nobody in the region cares about enhancing this area’s reputation.
Ignoring the banter over what kind of substance abuse and realizing my stance and everyone else on drugs is irrelevant I wish Sharlie the best of luck, I have always respected his play on the field and hope that he eventually is able to get clean.
Good luck Sharlie.
Sharlie is from Grenada so its most likely weed. They smoke joints for breakfeast over over there.
Spain is still better than Brazil.
i think Adu and EJ could very well be called in for the 30
is it bad to ask what kind of drug this is? then we would probly know how long it will be and know the severity of it…..this is horrible, i just tend to like to know more details

Highlights of the Aris game?
I wouldn’t pooh-pooh him. If he’s anything like Kaka the crappy name could just hide an amazing level of footballing skill. He might just get a flush of goals this game…
BS call by EUFA to ban Ribery for the finals let alone 2 more matches.
Ives – Storyline should read ‘”Bayern Rules and should be a stand alone article. Give the club and league more credit where credit is due.
An explanation of the playoff system for the Greek Superleague for those of you wondering.

Eddie Johnson with the brace!!!!!!! Sign em up Bob
Freddy subbed out of Aris game in 89th minute to a standing ovation. Nice!
Thanks! I like the format – bonus soccer 🙂
Adu draws a foul on an attempted sombero in the box and the teamamte misses the PK!
Jose…I notice you follow the Greek league as closely as I do. Where are you located if you don’t mind my asking? I live in northern Greece.
It is a round robin tournament with 4 teams
Each team plays each other home and away
Is this a one game or 2 leg playoff?
I’m sure there are plenty of other athletes you “root” for who have issues worse than this, but you know nothing about. Again, like others have said, you don’t know about his situation, so why condemn him so harshly?
Really a nice goal by Aris. Set up by Freddy and finished by Eddie. Good work by both…Freddy made a quality, off balance cross and Eddie made a tidy finish with his head. Aris seems to have Oly’s number this year when playing in Thessaloniki.
Very nice!!! Sweet Adu to EJ….keep it up kids!!!
Substance abuse is a serious thing. I was unaware the league even had such a program to help players with such problems. It is great that Sharlie is getting help. I wish him luck.
Charlie scoring in training! That is great news. I really hope Bob calls him into camp. I mean…he can call up to 30, one of those spots has to be for Chuck.
goal aris. Adu to johnson
Adu GREAT turn and cross, EJ header goal.
It’s never as simple as being a “druggie”, we don’t know the details. For example, i had 4 kidney stones and a kidney infection over a 2 year period, during this time i was prescribed several strong painkillers. The Hospital didn’t give me a class on how not to get addicted or a guideline. And it took all my will power to stop taking them when the pain when my kidney ordeal was over. We DON’T know what Shalrie has been through, and i think simplifying such a grave national problem into a being a druggie is a bit messed up.
I just keep getting the ad over and over
There’s a player named Dudu.
Looking better…some nice moves to get in crosses…I’m pulling for the kid.
Typo.
I really hope Joseph gets well soon. I love watching him play. One of the best ever in MLS for sure. I always thought he’d take his talent abroad, hope he still can. Best of luck to him.

Sean, I can understand where you are coming from. I spent 30 years of my life using any drug I could find, everyday. I don’t have any children but I did my share of hurting people. I have been clean for 2 years now and I am starting my life over. I hope Shalrie gets the help he needs, but if it is drugs, he now has a lifetime problem to deal with. Drugs and booze change the way the brain functions.
To those that cannot understand, god bless you. To those that condemn, god bless you.
Awesome. Hopefully if he can prove he’s progressed enough, he’ll force them to at least put him on the bench. Kid’s amazing
Maybe not so much now with the Arizona immigration law…
Just because you can’t imagine it doesn’t mean it isn’t a possibility. You’re obviously not privy to the intimate details so it could be anything at this point. No real need to speculate until more details come out.
Little Fred’s not looking especially sharp.
So, what’s the weather like when you sit there on your high horse?
http://www.bebinio.com
just sit through the ad and the game will come up.
Kind of strange Ribery gets a 3 game ban. That never seems to happen. A bit odd if say.
Bayern has played without him more than with him mostly this season and they actually seem to play better without him. I’ve seen all
of their games this year and am confidet they won’t drop off much without the Frenchman
He didn’t condemn him. He just said he wouldn’t root for a “druggie”. Those seem like very different things. And why shouldn’t he be free to root for whomever he wants? Sounds like some of you guys are a little too quick to judge Rory.
Any feeds for the game?
Some pretty amazing people have been drug addicts their entire lives and come out ahead, (Robert Downy Jr.), so to condemn someone so easily for something that is sometimes more powerful than the person, is a horrible thing to do. Respect and support, man. It’s probably mary jane anyway, not crack.
I’m no Guad apologist. I hate them as much as the Galaxy. However, per the Mexican constitution, a person is Mexican if their parents were born in Mexico. That’s why Jesus Padilla got to play for Guad despite being born in San jose. Guad screwed up by claiming he was born in MExico and raised in San jose.
Anyways, get used to it. Guad is setting up shop all over the states (even Arizona) and stealing Mexican-American kids while brainwashing their parents.
Good luck with that, Sunil and USSF.
