  1. Awesome video. My only beef: Keller and Howard get montages but not Friedel? Surely he had enough saves in 2002 to deserve a montage.

Any world success by the US so far is on the backs of our world class keepers. U-S-A!

  2. It was clear that the US strategy was to play a very defensive game. The early goal helped a lot, but it seemed US would have been willing to go to penalties if it had come to that.

Arena made comments about a strategy to conserve energy in the heat.

Aguirre in his report to FMF mention US players playing in Europe. I would add that those Europe based players had faced their share of relegation battles and new something about doing what it takes to get a result.

  3. Couldn’t find highlights of the match. Believe me, I searched for it. YouTube, torrents, other websites, etc.

Then of course, after I finished the video, someone showed me a video of the highlights. *sigh*

Maybe if I do another version during the next cycle, I’ll have the highlights that time.

  4. What about all those great goals Freddy Adu scored in U-17 and U-20 competition? Why aren’t those in the video?

  5. My memory is a bit fuzzy on this next one, but maybe someone can help. I believe it was a friendly with Mexico sometime in 95 when we were introduced to Reyna. I recall us winning 4-0, and playing a more open style than we’d played under Bora. I think of that game as a turning point in our overall development.

  6. yes, they’re called Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey…

watch Dempsey’s pass to Jozy against Spain, or Donovan’s pass to CD against Mexico….

same goes for Donovan’s give and go with Davies and the goal against Brazil…

those all were world-class plays against tough competition… obviously we’d like more of it, but you can’t say we lack it completely

  7. That’s my plan…well only 2 or 3 days off, but the opening weekend should be awesome for sure. Fri and Mon off and hopefully some more during the knockout stages!! Im so excited. I can imagine how it cool that was for you.

  8. Great video!

I’m hoping you’ve saved Jack Edwards’ “Mine eyes have seen the glory” call for the next vid.

If not, that’s a glaring omission. A legendary call that is as much a part of US Soccer history as any video clip.

    1. KEEP MAX BRETOS AWAY FROM THE MIC!!!
    2. Why did you have to end it with alexi lallas? the man has made a fool of himself since he stopped playing.

  11. One of my favorite moments is McBride’s celebration against Portugal. Ah, the look on his face!!

And those saves by Keller and Howard! We need keeping like that come June, and I’m pretty confident we will get it.

  12. Great series of clips, one big omission. Although the USA only achieved a tie result, it was against the eventual WC winner Italy. Many in Germany felt the USA vs Italy match was the best game of the 2006 WC.
