Jozy Altidore recently made his ESPN commercial debut, but he isn't the only current U.S. national team player to score one of those prized slots.
Landon Donovan can be added to a list that includes the likes of Alexi Lalas and Tab Ramos, national team players to be in an ESPN commercial, with this new (and pretty funny) spot:
What did you think of the spot? Funnier than Altidore's?

great ad. (just hope it’s not foreshadowing for the u.s. team in s. africa)
Wow! Totally digging the love ESPN is giving soccer right now.
I was roaring with laughter when I saw the ESPN Donovan spot last night…It is brilliant…anybody catch the reference to Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey?
I think Carlos Ruiz would have taken offense to that 😉
Or will ferrell
YES!!! YES!!! YES!!!
its funny, you aren’t.
Don’t Tread
That was HILARIOUS
I can’t stop laughing.
And I hope those of you who didn’t find it funny get cautioned the next time you kick a copier
I thought it was very funny.
I thought it was hilarious.
Every sportscenter commercial is dumb; that’s the point. Ha ha funny commercial tho.
It gets funnier the more times you watch it. The red card for dissent is hilarious.
Wow playmaker something must have rubbed you the wrong way this morning, wait til you find out ching did not make the WC roster
Same here. She thought this one was better than Jozy’s. I had to explain the gag in that one.
If you don’t know about the trading shirts custom, the gag in Jozy’s makes no sense.
I probably have been telling dumb jokes, listening to dumb jokes, and coming up with dumb jokes before you ever knew how to spell it. Boom roasted.
FTW
Wasn’t the point that Jozy picked THAT guy because he was wearing such a nice Italian shirt? Of course he’s gonna be unhappy about it–that’s half the comedy of it.
I thought it was funny, and a good nod to USMNT fans who have experienced the frustration of ridiculous cards handed to our guys.
Plus – it’s amusing considering he’s never gotten a red card IRL (right? or am I totally forgetting something?).
I thought the commercial was clever and made me laugh. However, this comment got a heartier laugh from me. Well played, sir.
Good, but not nearly as funny as Alexi’s old hippie athlete ad.
I think the copier should’ve shown him a second yellow first. Or was the copier saying that the second offense for dissent was a straight red?? If so, that was an overly harsh decision.
now that’s funny…
This was a pretty funny commercial. I think both commercials were pretty good.
Was that supposed to be funny? I guess I don’t like dumb dry jokes
Ehh … I though it was ok. I thought the Jozy one was ok as well. That Nike – Write the Future – was on point for me.
It would be closer to the truth if the yellow was spit out as he approached the copier and before he actually touches it.
Landon deadpanned that perfectly – laughed out load at work. Certainly funnier than Jozy’s, and good for what it was
hahahaha well played my friend
you’re exactly what’s wrong with soccer people in this country – just because you’ve been doing it longer means your way is right – all those years doesnt mean you’ve been doing it right!
They’re both funny. My friends that aren’t soccer fans liked it. I liked it, and I think it’s a dig at the soft cards we are becoming notorious for getting. But I’m often wrong.
Sheesh, I wonder if there’s a whole website deconstructing how funny Larry Fitzgerald’s TISC commercial was. We’re a little too neurotic around here sometimes.
You do not talk to me like that!! I work too hard to deal with this stuff!! I work too hard!! I’m a Division Manager in charge of 49 people!! I drive a Dodge Stratus!!
