The Europa League Final kicks off today with Fulham taking on Atletico Madrid in Hamburg, Germany.

Fulham is looking to cap a dream run through the tournament with one more victory, while Atletico looks to add a trophy before seeing its top player sold off this summer.

U.S. national team midfielder Clint Dempsey is starting today's final on the bench for Fulham, but he is a good bet to come in as a substitute.

  1. Fulham was gassed at the end. Etuhu and Murphy could barely run. On balance, I’d say Atletico were the better team and deserved the win.

  2. Forlan has a perfect deflection onto goal…as does Hangeland. Can’t blame Hangeland for that, though.

  3. ATL goes just high and wide but keeper probably had it covered.

A minute later Davies gets himself into good position to send in a cross but Nevland shanks the kick.

    And my feed dies.

  4. I’ve been a Fulham fan since McBride and Bocanegra played there. But I’ll admit that I wasn’t before then.

  5. Demspey is tripped, tries to play on, then thinks better of it and flops to earn a dangerous free kick.

Good kick from Murphy but cleared by ATL.

    Dempsey earns another free kick.

  6. Aguero dangerous in the box, well defended by Fulham and his shot is blocked.

Good heavens, ATL barely misses just after.

    And halftime.

  7. Because that cross was spot on wasn’t it? He hasn’t been able to complete any of the passes in the final third, or even the attacking half. His cross was good, but the goal came of the deflection to Davies.

Just because I’m watching doesn’t make me a Fulham fan, far from it. Just excited to see an American in a final. Cool it.

  8. Agreed. He’s trying to drift back a little more it looks like when he can.

The long balls aren’t going to work with the wet surface, they keep skipping right to De Gea.

  9. Meh, no worries mate. I’m from Texas but certainly no fan of W or Jerry Jones. I do get tired of people who judge a place based on somebody living there. There’s more to a State than what you see on TV. BTW, if Deuce had not grown up in Texas, he’d probably be a completely different player.

  10. well ATL. has been the better team overall i think. Fulham is playing the typical counter game. they don’t seem to have much, but they are in the finals, so they’ve done something right i guess. yea i agree both teams look spent.

  11. Dempsey needs the ball at his feet in order to be effective. That’s one of the big things UNMNT will miss with Charlie this summer. He can chase down long balls. Dempsey just doens’t have the speed.

  12. Except his cross lead to the goal. If i was a fulham fan I wouldn’t want any more part time American fans. Now is not the time to bitch about every player who is not American.
