This week's Major League Soccer slate is clearly highlighted by the matchup of unbeatens as the Columbus Crew host the Los Angeles Galaxy in what could be an (extremely) early preview of November's MLS Cup.

The match might not carry as many fantasy implications as some others on the week's fixture list, though. The two stingy defenses should limit the opposition's chances, meaning that each goalkeeper carries some value. As far as offensive firepower, though, other teams have much better opportunities, even with the return of Robbie Rogers to the Crew.

For example, the Houston Dynamo get to host yet another bottom feeder, welcoming the Philadelphia Union to Robertson Stadium after coasting against D.C. United last week. Even up-and-down Chivas USA should have no problem finding the back of the net in its road matchup against United, the team with the league's worst goal differential.

As is the case every week, the matchups dictate MFLS success, and the league's top two teams might not be as fruitful as they've been throughout the first nine weeks.

Having said that, here are this week's player rankings by position:

FANTASY MLS WEEK 10 PLAYER RANKINGS

GOALKEEPERS

  1. Pat Onstad, HOU – Returns from Canadian duty to face inconsistent Union attack
  2. Zach Thornton, CHV – D.C. United has been shut out seven times in nine matches.
  3. Will Hesmer, CLB – Crew keeper just fine with Bob Bradley's decision to keep Edson Buddle
  4. Joe Cannon, SJ – Four straight clean sheets for the Quakes with a home match against TFC a good chance for No. 5
  5. Donovan Ricketts, LA – Hard to bet against another Galaxy clean sheet, but facing Crew on the road is team's toughest task to date
  6. Nick Rimando, RSL – Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto is becoming a sure thing, and the Wizards are having a tough time finding the back of the net
  7. Bouna Coundoul, NY – Even with Shalrie Joseph back, Revolution are no offensive juggernaut
  8. Andrew Dykstra, CHI – Nice home matchup against a team that struggles to finish its chances
  9. Matt Pickens, COL – Sounders finishing problems aren't proving to be temporary
  10. Preston Burpo, NE – Revs are struggling, but Red Bulls haven't exactly been scoring with regularity these days

DEFENDERS

  1. Mike Chabala, HOU – Dynamo defense shouldn't be tested too much by Union
  2. Eddie Robinson, HOU – Veteran a capable contributor when healthy
  3. Bobby Boswell, HOU – I'm fairly confident in the Dynamo back line at home against Philadelphia
  4. Jason Hernandez, SJ – Earthquakes defensive stranglehold is no joke
  5. Dario Delgado, CHV – Now's the time to play your Chivas defenders, if you own any not named Bornstein
  6. Frankie Hejduk, CLB – Galaxy won't have an easy time scoring on a strong defensive unit
  7. Todd Dunivant, LA – Difficult to imagine Galaxy keeping the Crew off the scoreboard in Columbus, but it's hard to bench the top defensive fantasy scorer
  8. Jamison Olave, RSL – Centerback should feast on Wizards' offensive road woes
  9. Tim Ream, NY – Pretty solid matchup for Red Bulls unit suddenly in need of a strong showing
  10. Wilman Conde, CHI – Fire shouldn't be threatened too badly by FC Dallas attack

MIDFIELDERS

  1. Brad Davis, HOU – Can't imagine him being silent against a subpar opponent for a second straight week
  2. Javier Morales, RSL – Will shoulder the midfield load with Kyle Beckerman doubtful with a strained foot tendon
  3. Guillermo Barros Schelotto, CLB – Always has a hand in what the Crew does offensively, though the Galaxy defense could stifle the East's best attack a bit
  4. Chris Wondolowski, SJ – If his five goals in six matches haven't made a believer out of you yet, perhaps it's time to jump aboard the bandwagon
  5. Bobby Convey, SJ – Comeback is in full force, and home matchup against Toronto is solid
  6. Dwayne De Rosario, TOR – Having a great season but faces an in-form San Jose defense
  7. Brian Mullan, HOU – Matchup works heavily in his favor
  8. Eddie Gaven, CLB – Showed top form against Red Bulls, though Galaxy will provide stiffer test
  9. Andy Williams, RSL – Beckerman's potential absence opens up an opportunity for Williams to excel
  10. Steve Zakuani, SEA – His every-other-match trend works in his favor this week instead of against him
  11. Marco Pappa, CHI – Two goals, three assists so far for potential breakout player
  12. Sacha Kljestan, CHV – Goats' maestro gets to take out his World Cup disappointment on the league's worst team, but how much (or if) he plays is uncertain
  13. Michael Stephens, LA – Rookie will have to up his game against Crew's talented midfield
  14. Ryan Smith, KC – Early polish is wearing off, but matchup is a little better without having to deal with Beckerman
  15. Mehdi Ballouchy, COL – Inconsistent, but filled with potential, especially at home against a defense that'll be without Jhon Kennedy Hurtado

FORWARDS

  1. Alvaro Saborio, RSL – Front of RSL formation is all his with Robbie Findley gone for the summer
  2. Omar Cummings, COL – A Hurtado-less defense makes for a nice day for Rapids' front line
  3. Dominic Oduro, HOU – Just imagine the damage he'd do if he were just a fraction more efficient in finishing his chances; Nevertheless, he has a super matchup
  4. Patrick Nyarko, CHI – Fire's most dangerous attacking player thus far
  5. Justin Braun, CHV – Golden chance for Chivas to up its goal total against shoddy D.C. defense
  6. Conor Casey, COL – See: Omar Cummings
  7. Luis Angel Landin, HOU – Gulp. He's…being…productive? A goal and three assists thus far for much-maligned DP
  8. Ryan Johnson, SJ – Nice home matchup against Toronto could pay dividends
  9. Fredy Montero, SEA – Shouldn't be pestered too much by the Rapids' defense
  10. Brian Ching, HOU – Shock World Cup snub gives Dynamo an unexpected summer boost

COACHES

  1. Dom Kinnear, HOU
  2. Martin Vasquez, CHV
  3. Jason Kreis, RSL
  4. Frank Yallop, SJ
  5. Carlos de los Cobos, CHI
  6. Robert Warzycha, CLB
  7. Bruce Arena, LA
  8. Hans Backe, NY
  9. Gary Smith, COL
  10. Sigi Schmid, SEA
