Despite playing without two of Major League Soccer's top offensive threats, the Los Angeles Galaxy extended their unbeaten streak to 10 games with a 1-0 victory over FC Dallas in Frisco Thursday night.
Mike Magee, expected to undertake a larger offensive role with Edson Buddle and Landon Donovan currently with the U.S. men's national team, opened the scoring in the 17th minute. He slotted home cross from 18-year-old academy product Tristan Bowen, who was making his first MLS start.
The Galaxy defense then did what it does best – hold the opposition scoreless – and Bruce Arena's side made Magee's goal stand up in improving to 8-0-2. The clean sheet was the eighth of the season for the Galaxy back line and the seventh for goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts, who returned from a one-game injury absence.
FC Dallas coach Schellas Hyndman said that his team's effort might have been "the worst performance since I've been here." On the plus side for FC Dallas, 18-year-old academy product Bryan Levya made his MLS debut as a 77th-minute substitute.
Match highlights are after the jump:
Should the Columbus Crew defeat or draw with Kansas City on Sunday, then next week's matchup between the Galaxy and Crew in Columbus would pit the league's remaining unbeaten sides against each other.
Were you more impressed by Los Angeles or disappointed by FC Dallas? Do you think the Crew has what it takes to defeat the Galaxy? What does Dallas need to get back on track?
