MLS Week 7 (A Look Ahead)

MLS_Logo

The busiest week in MLS history begins tonight, with the first of 12 matches over the next four days.

Winless D.C. United takes the field at RFK tonight against struggling Kansas City. The Wizards have gone winless in three, but will still be favored against a point-less D.C. team that could be forced to turn to a teenager in goal.

The match of the day is in Colorado, where the Rapids will look to try and stop red-hot Edson Buddle and the unbeaten Los Angeles Galaxy.

Here is a rundown of tonight's matches:

7pm- Kansas City Wizards at D.C. United (7pm, ESPN2)

7:30pm- Chivas USA at New England Revolution (Direct Kick)

9pm- FC Dallas at Houston Dynamo (Direct Kick)

9:30pm- Los Angeles Galaxy at Colorado Rapids (Direct Kick)

So who do we see winning tonight? Here's a closer look at all four matches:

KANSAS CITY WIZARDS at D.C. UNITED

Is D.C. United really going to turn to young goalkeeper Bill Hamid? He's got a great future, but D.C. looks doomed for a home defeat against a Wizards team looking to snap its own winless skid. Josh Wolff leads the visitors to victory and drops D.C. United to 0-6. Wizards 2, D.C. United 1.

CHIVAS USA at NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION

Since turning to rookie midfielders Blair Gavin and Ben Zemanski, Chivas USA has played better and solidified things. Will that be enough against a Revs team coping with the absence of Shalrie Joseph? Look for Marko Perovic to get the better of the young Rojiblancos and look for Zach Schilawski to have a big game. Revolution 2, Chivas USA 1.

FC DALLAS at HOUSTON DYNAMO

FC Dallas has lost just once this season, but it still hasn't won yet. That first win of the season isn't likely to come at Robertson Stadium against a Dynamo team that showed a dangerous attack despite losing Geoff Cameron. Brad Davis will pick apart the Dallas defense in a Dynamo victory. Dynamo 2, FC Dallas 0.

LOS ANGELES GALAXY at COLORADO RAPIDS

The Galaxy roll in as the hottest team in MLS, but winning in Colorado won't be easy. The tandem of Pablo Mastroeni and Jeff Larentowicz will limit the service to Edson Buddle, while Omar Cummings will cause problems for the Galaxy back-line. Los Angeles will stay unbeaten, but won't take all three points. Rapids 1, Galaxy 1.

  1. He’s playing like a DP?

I’d say he’s playing better but when better means going from: lazy and uninspired to showing effort and ability, I think that still leaves a lot to be desired.

If he plans on doing it weekly, then I think he moves in the right direction of earning his paycheck.

  2. What a game, what a team, what a defense! Galaxy! Do I hear a strong run in CONCACAF Champions League too? Go for the gusto, Bruce, run the table!

  3. I thought Dallas clearly outplayed Houston until going down 10 men with about 20 to play. Seemed to have more possession. Houston looked disinterested for a big portion of the game.

  4. Dallas scores with 10 men to steal all 3 points in Houston 1-0!

Houston did play well and could have one the game, but the bounces went Dallas’ way tonight. No Jeff Cunningham either. Sorry Ives, can’t predit ’em all right haha. GO DALLAS!

  6. LA really plays some great football. Donovan might not be scoring goals right now, but he’s sure getting lots of assists.

  7. No mention of Landin? the DP who is finally playing like a DP? looks like he lost a few pounds, but I would look to him to continue to draw fouls, create goals, and maybe even score one or two himself tonight in the texas derby.

  8. Hey ELAC… I’ve missed you. Have you been back to night school again. 4,235,184 is a pretty big number for you to get to. Only 423,518 times across your two hands! WHy did you stop at the ring finger? 🙂

Why do you always to the “originality” card? That’s so unoriginal.

Oh, and hey dad? Can I have a dime for each time you counted your fingers to get there? I’m a little broke paying your tuition!

  10. COme on Ives, don’t be so vanilla. You and I both know that the Galaxy romp in Colorado. 3-1.

And ELAC’s goats get smoked in New England. I hear they expect to throw in some birria in the next batch of New England Clam Chowder… They’ll call it Clamirria!
