Final-Red Bulls win 3-0 to advance in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. It was a dominating performance for the Red Bulls who showed creativity in the attacking third and played stifling defense. Check back for more analysis on SBI after the match.

——————-

90th Minute- 2 minutes of stoppage time.

——————-

89th Minute-  Ubiparipovic appears to be okay after streaking down the field and cutting Drew Moor just inside the box.

——————-

86th Minute-  Red Card for Danny Earls on hard challenge on Sinisa Ubiparipovic. The Rapids had been getting pretty chippy in the later minutes of this one. It was a late challenge out of frustration and Colorado will play the last three plus minutes a man down.

——————-

82nd Minute-  CHINN misses chance for second goal on slip pass from Dane Richards. Chinn had the whole goal open but couldn't put it on frame.

——————-

78th Minute- BALLOUCHY puts it off the cross bar on the set piece. Great hit but unlucky result from the midfielder.

——————-

77th Minute- Stammler Yellow for tackle on Colin Clark. Chance for Ballouchy to put the Rapids on the board.

——————-

75th Minute-  Stammler rips a shot from the corner of the box forcing a diving save from Joyce. Corner NYRB. Tchani heads it wide.

——————-

74th Minute-  Tonight's attendance is 2,637 at RB Arena. The crowd has been passionate and chanting the whole game behind the RB.

——————-

70th Minute- Rapids Sub: Omar Cummings in for Wells Thompson.

——————-

68th Minute-  Garcia and Wolyniec both get standing ovations as Seth Stammler and Dane Richards replace each them. Richards up top and Stammler on the wing.

——————-

67th Minute- Tony Tchani and Sinisa Ubiparipovic have both given Hans Backe something to think about in starting on Saturday vs. the Revs. NYRB will need someone to step up with Carl Robinson out for 5-6 weeks and these two certainly made their case.

——————-

61st Minute-  Angel, Ream and Stammler join Richards warming up. Omar Cummings stretching for Rapids.

——————-

58th Minute-  DIVING SAVE SUTTON. He hasn't had to do much but he was up to the task there. Still 3-0 Red Bulls.

——————-

57th Minute-  No assist for Ubiparipovic because it went off Moor's shin. But he did create the goal with excellent play in midfield.

——————-

56th Minute-  GOAL CONOR CHINN!!! Sinisa Ubiparipovic intercepted a pass in midfield and slipped a through ball off a wrong footed Rapids defender. Chinn took hold of the ball and fired it past Joyce for the 3-0 lead.

——————-

54th Minute-  Yellow card for Wells Thompson for foul on Tony Tchani. Lopez took a shot from 30 yards out seconds later but it was well wide. the Rapids have looked more energetic in the 2nd half but haven't created anything special early on.

——————-

53rd Minute-  Rapids Sub: Michael Holody coming on for the center back Julien Baudet.

——————-

49th Minute-  Petke probably getting into the game to stay sharp as he didn't play at all on Sunday. Dane Richards is warming up for NYRB.

——————-

48th Minute- Garcia draws a foul after intercepting a Lopez pass. Garcia has caused all kinds of problems for Danny Earls on the right side.

——————-

46th Minute-  A few subs into the game…

For the Red Bulls: Mike Petke in for Carlos Mendes and Danleigh Borman in for Roy Miller.

For the Rapids: Mehdi Ballouchy in for Jeff Larentowicz and Andre Akpan in for Quincy Amarikwa

——————-

Halftime  The Red Bulls lead the Colorado Rapids 2-0 behind a brace from John Wolyniec. You can't say much negative about the Red Bulls effort. They have stifled the Rapids attack and controlled the midfield for the entire first half.

The Rapids might want to sub in Mehdi Ballouchy to inject some energy into the attack. While Colorado hasn't played since May 15th, they are playing against the NYRB reserves fielding many of the regulars. Gary Smith can't be happy with the effort so far.

——————-

45th Minute-  1 minute of stoppage time.

——————-

44th Minute-  John Wolyniec with his 4th goal in two USOC starts. Tony Tchani capped off his stellar first half controlling the middle with confident run down the wing on the assist.

——————-

43rd Minute-  GOAL RED BULLS!!! JOHN WOLYNIEC WITH HIS SECOND!! Tony Tchani made a streaking run down the right wing slotting the ball to Wolyniec who buried a one timer past Joyce. 2-0 NYRB.

——————-

39th Minute- Wolyniec has a shot from distance but way off target. The Red Bulls midfield has controlled the pace of this game for the most part so far. This is a testament to the Red Bulls reserves, who are playing against a Rapids squad fielding 8-9 first team players.

——————-

37th Minute- Here is the link for the live stream for those of you who are having trouble finding it…

——————-

33rd Minute- Hall has some space on the left side but Wells Thompson saves the day with a great sliding tackle.

——————-

31st Minute- Another great cross for Irving Garcia and Hall puts a solid header just wide of the goal. The Red Bulls have looked dangerous every time Garcia has gotten the ball in the attacking third.

——————-

29th Minute- Scary moment for Red Bulls as Colin Clark beat Albrigh in a ball across the box, but he wasn't able to get a clean touch on it and it went off Sutton for a corner.

——————-

28 Minute-  Great ball to the back post to Jeremy Hall, but Hall just couldn't get enough on the header to trouble Joyce. The Red Bull players have said time and again that Hans wants the the opposite side outside midfielder to be on the back post for crosses.

——————-

27th Minute-  Goal saving interception by Luke Sassano as Quincy Amarikwa was through on goal behind the defense.

——————-

23rd Minute-  Tchani and Ubiparipovic are winning the midfield battle for the Red Bulls over Jeff Larentowicz and the Rapids.

——————-

21st Minute- Great one-two pass between Sassano and Wolyniec picked off by GK Ian Joyce on the left side of the box. The Rapids have had their fair share of possession but haven't been able to create a lot of quality chances early on in this one.

——————-

18th Minute-  Wells Thompson seems to have drop into the midfield for the Rapids as Lopez is taking on a withdrawn attacking role.

——————-

16th Minute-  Conor Chinn barely offsides on great ball and hustle play by Roy Miller.

——————-

12th Minute-  Larentowicz with a yellow card for a late tackle.

——————-

12th Minute: Wolyniec continues to have a nose for goal in these types games. Garcia and  Ubiparipovic got the assists on the goal.

——————-

11th Minute: GOAL RED BULLS!!! It's JOHN WOLYNIEC with the tip-in off a hard ball across the middle by the one and only Irving Garcia 1-0 Red Bulls.

——————-

9th Minute: Man is it hot out here. Easily the hottest conditions so far for a RB at the new arena. Many of the Red Bulls playing today played at least 45 on Sunday, so it will be interesting to see how fitness holds up.

——————-

6th Minute- Bad miss by Wells Thompson on the one timer.

——————-

4th Minute- Scary moment there for the Red Bull defense as Sutton did just enough to cut off the angle on Lopez.

——————-

1st Minute– And we're off.

——————-

PRE-GAME- We're almost underway. There is hardly anyone here at the game. I expect it to be the lowest attendance of the year thus far.

——————-

PRE-GAME- Irving Garcia gets his second ever start. It will be interesting how the rookie performs in a game that means something. Garcia had a great start against Juventus on Sunday.

——————-

PRE-GAME- Some Red Bulls news. Carl Robinson underwent successful knee surgery earlier today to repair a torn lateral meniscus in his right knee. He is expected to miss 5-6 weeks.

——————-

  2. Agreed, but i’m obviously biased… was pretty pumped when I heard he was invited to train with the NYRB, since that’s my MLS club. After his amazing season last year, I would love for the RB to snatch him next year, could be the GK that takes over after Coundoul/Sutton move on.

  3. lol clean sheet even after petke came on! (being harsh i know not entirely serious!)

some of these “baby bulls” are playing great! ubi, garcia, and tchani need more MLS time. robinsons injury and richards general suckiness may open the door.

  4. Cool side note for any University of Virginia fan out there… there’s 3 members of the NCAA National Champs at Red Bull Arena tonigh: Tony Tchani for the Red Bulls, Ross LaBeaux for the Rapids, and Diego Restrepo who has been training with the Red Bulls for the last month getting ready for the ’10 college season.
