Nike’s new World Cup commercial

Leave it to the folks at Nike to put together a perfect commercial to get fans ready for the World Cup (complete with a cameo from Tim Howard and Landon Donovan).

Enjoy:

Even more excited for the World Cup? It's just three weeks away.

  1. Has no one noticed that Rooney’s tackle at the end of the segment looks like it was intended to mimic Bobby Moore’s famed tackle on Jairzinho? Which would explain the knighthood. And there’s an expanded trailer park (caravan park in Britspeak) segment available on Youtube.

BTW who are the three guys with the newspapers at the end of that part? The one in the middle looks like Bocanegra.

And shouldn’t CR7 be visiting Bruce Jenner as well as Homer?

  2. That was epic (and prescient). The use of the Focus song “Hocus Pocus” was class. Nike’s ads are a vast improvement over the Adidas ads that cast players as some sort of superhuman mystical gods (which we all know is BS).

  3. Awesome how it captured the different cultures. Jumping from African street celebrations to the Italian “gala”…Brilliant.

  4. you know, there was literally an article, 2 days ago, about the top 10 Nike commercials. either way, pretty much each and every one of the ones posted on this thread were included. hahaha it was basically all the joga bonito videos

  5. Precisely Wally. Has nothing to do with anyone’s 23-man roster. It has to do with marketing the right people who are going to sell the crap out of some poorly made (just my opinion) Nike boots.

  6. Not that I don’t completely agree with you, but nothing in the commercial states that it’s a “World Cup” ad. We just assume so because of the timing (as we should). They’re just promoting their brand at the right time with the new phrase “Write the future”. And it’s not like they’re not going to put the Bucktoothed Bandit in there. They’ve spent a boatload on branding his lazy self. So again, I do agree that it seems strange to have him in there, but we’re viewing it in a different light than the folks at Nike.

  7. Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about. 100x better than that ESPN commerical with Jozy (no offense Jozy)

  8. That one was kinda retarded.

Couldn’t really tell who that was in the white number 7 do to the quality. Who is it?

  9. The same thing Beasley is doing in National team camp. Only difference is that Brazil doesn’t cave in to Nike.

  10. Come on now, that kind of condescending “MY football is the better one” is a huge contributor to making soccer unpopular in the US. Ive seen people mock soccer just to spite that attitude…

And the NFL totally has its exciting moments…

And And nike makes things for both of those sports…

  11. What?

In all seriousness, it would have been nice to see our guys actually playing. Then again, the Spanish guys just threw their papers.

  12. Would of been amazing if they had a scene focused on USA and showing MLB/NFL falling to soccer. (:

but with or without more focus on the USA; its a beautiful commercial & equally so as their previous “Take it to the next level” commercials that ran during EURO2008.
