Costa Rican striker Alvaro Saborio has been a star in his native country for years, and one of the more underrated strikers in CONCACAF for some time, but now MLS fans are finding out just why the striker is so dangerous.

Saborio delivered his best performance to date since joining Real Salt Lake, netting a pair of quality goals (and coming within a rattled post of a hat-trick) to help RSL beat Houston last Thursday. The performance earned Saborio SBI MLS Player of the Week honors (as well as the official league honor).

Saborio beat out Kansas City's Kei Kamara, who's own two-goal effort helped the Wizards salvage a 2-2 tie vs. Chicago, and Stefan Frei, who helped Toronto FC pull off a stunning 0-0 tie against the unbeaten Los Angeles Galaxy.

What did you think of Saborio's performance? Who got your Player of the Week vote this week?

  1. Sabo as a DP in Salt Lake makes sense and may be the only way to keep him in Utah.

RSL is starting to look like the team that won the cup last season.

  2. I’m surprised he isn’t one, but with what lagerway has said about DPs he’ll have to earn it. (Which is what i think he’s doing)

  3. He always go to his teammates and points out the work they put in to serve him a great ball. It’s refreshing to see. As an RSL fan I’d be fine with him as a dp

  4. Seeing him at rio tinto is pretty rad, he seems pretty chill too. He never goes balls out on celebrations or anything. Plus his hops are insane. Can’t wait to see him against the goats, i hope Campos can match his presence.

  6. No doubt the leading candidate for newcomer of the year. He hasn’t even fully acclimated to his teamates yet…I think by the end of the year he could be in the running for an MLS best XI selection…

  8. Glad to see sabo getting the props he deserves. He’s been a monster for RSL for the short amount of time we’ve had him, can’t wait to see what he can do for us the rest of the season.
