Good afternoon everybody. It’s time for the Cinco de Mayo edition of the SBI Live Q&A.
Feel free to fire off your soccer (and pop culture) questions my way and I will try to answer as many of the questions as I can over the course of the next two hours.
I think he should have had a goal last night that he missed. LD played great at Everton, but I think his first thought right now is to pass. Does that have a negative affect in the WC? I don’t know, that is why I brought up the question.
all i meant about my henry coming to ny affecting agudelo question is basically if agudelo would ever see the field…. i understand that having henry as a mentor would be great, but is henry the type of player to take a young guy under his wing?
(SBI-Agudelo is still pretty raw so Henry or not it shouldn’t be assumed he would get much playing time.)
Someone asked where the final of the 2022 World Cup would be if the U.S. wins the bid… don’t overlook Cowboys Stadium in Dallas… 80,000+ (can expand to 90,00 or more), and it’s with a retractable roof, so weather (heat in particular) would not be an issue..
I’m sorry I normally really like to read your blog Ives but
‘I think it’s the worst German team in a while.’
this pretty much proves to me that you have no clue what you are talking about when you are writing about non-English/Spanish speaking soccer..
I understand only 23 players are going to SA but who are the 18 that will actually dress come game time???

3:10 Hmm, I’d have to think about that one for a while.

2. Marcus Hahneman
3. Carlos Bocanegra
4. Oguchi Onyewu
5. Jay Demeritt
6. Jonathan Spector
7. Heath Pearce
8. Steve Cherundolo
9. Clint Dempsey
10. Michael Bradley
11. Maurice Edu

14. Stuart Holden
15. Benny Feilhaber
16. Alejandro Bedoya
17. Jozy Altidore
18. Brian Ching
Outside looking in, maybe 2nd game or later games:
Beasley, Torres, Davies
Ives, I’ve bought my tickets to the games and the transportation as well. I’ll keep an eye out for SBI Mafia and staff while there, and hope my noobness doesn’t ruin a good time.
If you had to name the final roster for the world cup today, what would it be? Who would be your eleven starters? Since I’m asking such a loaded question I promise not to criticize.
Some of the World Cup preview magazines are listing some rather odd choices. I have one that says Benny Feilhaber will start in the midfield, and Clint Dempsey will not start at all!
Of course there’s no slump. Landon Donovan is never in a slump. Even if he were to play six games in a row without a goal or assist, and you hardly noticed him on the field, he’s still not in a slump.
He has assisted on several of Buddle’s goals. If you havn’t noticed Donovan assists more than he scores these days. Including in his time in the EPL. No slump.
Do you think Landon Donovan is in a slump? He had a couple of bad misses in the Premier league and has yet to really step up and score with the Galaxy. I have not been able to watch all of the games so I am interested if you think his confidence is not where it should be going into the World cup.

I think under the circumstances Buddle and Gomez have to make the list.

(oops, Ives answered that on the Q&A too….good stat, though)
By the way, I just checked, and there are exactly 1,500 days until Brazil 2014 begins.
He has assisted on several of Buddle’s goals. If you havn’t noticed Donovan assists more than he scores these days. Including in his time in the EPL. No slump.
OH…it’s LIVE. I didn’t see that the first time. Sorry.
What is your Best XI of players from countries that did not qualify for WC 2010?
