  1. He got pretty blatantly fouled in the box by Campbell with no call. It seemed to be that he was staying down more out of frustration with the ref than due to pain. He got up, walked over to the ref and got a yellow for arguing, then Hodgeson promptly subbed him out before he could get a second.

In short, I don;t think his injury is at all serious.

  2. Chelsea- terrible sports.

Man advantage due to cheating (Lampard dive- watch it in just about every angle) then continue to beat up a lesser opponent.

Classy. Real classy, from the dive to Drogba pouting because Lampard takes the PK to beating them 8-0. And classiest of all: Droga with a hat trick all in the last 30 minutes.

I kind of like Chelsea but I found today’s performance after the sending off to be classless.

And before all of the apologist say that Wigan should just stop them, realize that Chelsea had a man advantage because they cheated. Diving is cheating.

  4. Maybe the drop-down tabs vary depending on your region…I’m not in the US at the moment, maybe I’m not seeing a “US Soccer” tab because of that. Oh well.

  5. But on which page are you hovering over “US Soccer”? On espnsoccernet.espn.go.com (ie, the Soccernet main page)? I’m there and am not seeing a US Soccer drop-down to hover over…

Ah well. It’s not that I need to find it….just thought I’d post and criticize the horrible site that it is. Glad Fox Soccer and SBI are my sites of choice.

  6. Here’s hoping Dempsey gets subbed out in the next few minutes. I am a little concerned that Hodgson might not be planning to start him in the Europa league final, which in my opinion, makes zero sense.

  7. Yeah, ever since Jen Chang left, it’s been a complete and utter mess.

If you’re still not getting it. Here it is: Just hover your mouse over the ‘US Soccer’ tab, then you should get a drop down for ‘Home’ and ‘MLS’. Good luck!

  8. soccernet reporting Bedoya clocks another 90 in a W for Obrero. I hope he stays in good form and makes the nats 23. Wonder what his odds are?

  9. Maybe it’s because all 10 EPL games are being played at the same time and I doubt every game is being televised live.

    Bolton-Birmingham was not top priority

  10. I know! I have been looking for the past hour and have not been able to find one. The usual feed that I use, iraqgoals, manages to have every other EPL game today except the one that I’m actually interested in, because Holden really impressed a couple of months ago. Absolutely ridiculous.

  11. “If you right-click on US, you get a pull-down menu. MLS is the second choice.” On which page do you right-click on “US” though?

I usually use Fox Soccer or MLS’s own site, but sometimes I check espn’s page just for yucks.

  12. I agree it’s stupid to grab a shirt, but it happens about 30 or 40 times a game. You don’t see the guy go down unless he’s in the box. It was a penalty, but it shouldn’t have been. Lampard should have been carded, not the defender.

  13. You must be a Chelsea fan… it shouldn’t be a red just because he’s 1 foot behind the second to last defender. It’s a horrible red card call.

  14. I assume you’re referring to Lampard. He’s a very convincing diver.

See Frank run. Tug Frank’s shirt. See Frank fall.

  15. Youare doing it wrong.

While I agree that ESPN Soccernet slights US soccer, it’s not the way you portray. The problem is the clicking the USA page on the drop down menu just takes you to the World Cup page.

It’s been this way for many months. If you right-click on US, you get a pull-down menu. MLS is the second choice. It takes you right to their MLS page. On the other hand, their MLS coverage sucks, so I[m not sure hwy you feel the need to check it out. Nothing original there, and nothing insightful either.

  16. The defender shouldn’t be stupid enough to grab the shirt like that. It’s a penalty.

Because he’s the last man back it’s a red. Ref got it right

  17. No, this is the EPL – where competition for the title is near non-existent. Teams buy their success in England and it’s become unbearable to watch.

  18. Not to mention the no call on the offside for the 1st goal. Perhaps justice will prevail in this game. This is football we’ll see.

  19. Penalty barely, the red is a joke. That rule HAS to be changed. Just because you are the last man in the box with 3 other defenders doesn’t make it a red. It should be only for breakaways and such where the striker is one on one with the keeper.

Expect that rule changed this year. Handed the title to Chelsea and made the last hour of this game completely not worth watching.

Give a hand to the refs – this year has been an absolute shocker for them. Can’t wait to see what they come up with in the World Cup.
