Plenty is on the line in two of Wednesday's major soccer matches around the world.
In England, Manchester City will try to leapfrog Tottenham for fourth place in the Premier League when it welcomes Spurs to the Eastlands (2:55 p.m. EST, ESPN2).
In Italy, Inter Milan and AS Roma will settle their differences on the pitch at the Stadio Olimpico in the Coppa Italia final (2:45 p.m., GOLTV/ESPN3.com).
In matches of slightly lesser significance, Clint Dempsey's Fulham hosts Stoke City (3 p.m.) in a tune-up for the Europa League final, and Real Madrid faces a road challenge from Mallorca (4 p.m., ESPN3.com) while it tries to keep pace with Barcelona for first place in La Liga.
If you will be watching any or all of Wednesday's matches either on TV or via Internet feed please feel free to share any play-by-play, thoughts and opinions in the comments section below. Enjoy the action!
What a day for Spurs! What a season!
Yes, a step backward like a Microsoft update.
I wrote a complaint to the ESPN ombudsman.
Neutral fan perspective…. I’m not really sure what frank is talking about. I’m baffled at how people can say that Inter were shameful or embarrassing or disgraceful or use any other negative adjective. I thought they played brilliantly over both legs. You can’t criticize a team that’s playing a man down for about 60 minutes of a 2nd leg match against Barcelona in the Camp Nou and gets the result they need. I’m sorry, but you just can’t whip out the “they didn’t ‘play’ football” card. That’s just a tactically ignorant statement to make. Bottom line – Inter were without question the tactically better team and their players performed those tactics almost to perfection. And that my friends is what you call “special”.
KBone, no worries….now just do us all a favour and have your lot keep the title out of the hands of those Chavvy bastards.
Yeah it’s bad luck to break players leg’s annually. For the other guys.
Stoke 1 Fulham 0. Etherington in the 80th min or something like that.
I thought for sure Dempsey was going to score.
+1
Come on you Spurs! Glory!
The new version of ESPN3 is absolutely atrocious.
What happened in the Fulham match?
Anyone know why Bocanegra wasn’t playing for Rennes today?
As a United fan, I’d just like to say thank you to Spurs, you’ve made me a happy man…
Strike that…kept out of the Champion’s League… my bad.
God I love seeing City lose. And to be kept out of Europe….even better!!
City dynasty put on hold.
Spurs through to Champions League!
Ya SCREW A NIGEL DE JONG!!
goal probably only worth around $40 million dollars (!)
Barca seemed to be the bigger floppers to me, as a nuetral that was my take on it.
A goal that probably means Spurs will have enough money to replace him up front next year!
Crouch! on a deflected header. 82nd minute. wow!
I think he’s referring to them flopping / diving
Dempsey for the hat-trick.
No need to mention the soccer in this country I guess. Avi, there are 4 MLS games today!?!?
Fulham v. Stoke for 10th place, but not MLS ?
Ha!
I double dog dare ya!
Not an Inter fan, by the way.
However, how can you criticize Inter for the way they played the FIRST game?
Why would anyone call them a cheap excuse of a team? They offensively outplayed Barca in the first game, then turned around and shut them down (minus the one goal) defensively in the second game despite being a man short.
agreed
Huddlestone with a yellow card for a stomping motion on DeJong. But DeJong probably deserved it. Really don’t like that guy, especially after he injured Stuart Holden in January. Reminds me somewhat of Gattuso.
That recent injury, the one that made the news didn’t look like it was really a dirty play. Shawcross is a good player who had a bit of bad luck and a bad name after a previous nasty tackle injury.
Does anyone else think that Gareth Bale looks like a brown haired Scott Farkus from a Christmas Story?
Someone get that man a coon-skin hat!
don’t no if your a inter fan, but you sure are funny standing up for a cheap excuse of a team, one that has some of the best players in the world, to play the 2 legs like they did vs. barca is just embarrassing and shameful. but that’s right the specialone has his army i guess.
Have never seen Shawcross play, but from what I heard he’s a leading candidate to get a lifetime ban. Clint should stay away, far away.
Maybe they could learn how to drop to the field as if they’d just recieved a hand to the face… now who could teach them that move? Oh, Barcelona’s players could teach them how to do that!
Right… because he coached them on how to celebrate?
It looks like City is getting three decent chances for every one Spurs chance… but Spurs has come closer to scoring.
Gomes has made two excellent saves, but Spurs have hit the post and had a goal disallowed. So, I’d say it’s been about even.
After Inter score on a nice counter, their entire squad drop like shot by an AK47 at every opportunity. This is one reason why the Special One is not so special for many.
City look dangerous early.
Dempsey and Shawcross having words. Let’s hope Shawcross keeps his studs to himself.
Fine. The more of our guys that avoid annoying injuries this next week or so, the better.
No Boca in 18 for Rennes.
what??!? King header goal disallowed. questionable call, I would say
Gooch, DeMerit, and Blackmouth better be ready for Mr. Roboto next month
Tevez looking very dangerous early on for City
Man, Tevez is one ugly, powerful SOB. Group B beware.
Any links?
Dempsey starting up top for Fulham.
