Terry injured in training, broken foot NOT suspected (UPDATED)

England national team defender John Terry suffered a foot injury in training with Chelsea on Wednesday and could be a doubt for the World Cup.

Terry underwent scans on his injured right foot, with a fractured metatarsal suspected to be the injury. If Terry does have a broken foot, he could wind up missing the World Cup. Results of the scans on Terry's foot are not expected until Thursday.

(UPDATE- Terry has issued a statement insisting that he hasn't broken his foot and that he is hopeful of playing in the FA Cup Final. The injury is now believed to be ligament damage.)

Terry just finished leading Chelsea to the English Premier League title, and was with his club preparing for the FA Cup Final when the injury occurred.

  1. No matter what England won’t be at their absolute best because Wayne Bridge and John Terry won’t be playing together on the backline.

  2. Also it seems that there was no break, just ligament damage, and he hopes to play in the FA Cup Final. So whatever. Non-news now.

  3. If the United States wins, nobody will remember or care that John Terry was out two summers from now. Their talent pool is deep. Don’t overreact to this.

  4. I think it is a blessing in disguise for Capello. He would have felt obligated to start Terry and Terry has been crap for most of the season. He’ll be even luckier if Rio can’t start, then he’ll be able to start his much more reliable Centerbacks. As for Ledley, he played four games in a row at the end of the season including three in one week, so I’m damn-sure afraid of him. He is bar-none England’s best CB.

  5. Good point. There’s definitely an instability issue. Dawson-king pairing is very unlikely given rio is the captain of the squad.

Though capello strikes me as one of the few coaches bold enough to bench his captain if he thinks it would help the team.

  7. You think if one of the WAGs Give him a blowjob it will speed his recovery? I mean van persie tried to use cheese to heal. Who know?

  9. John Terry is one of England’s best Center Backs. If we beat them without him, it’s not going to be as sweet, tbh. A win is a win, but a win against England’s best with a team that no one thinks is going to make it (besides us, of course)? That’s legendary. That’s 1776 Legendary. That’s 1950 Legendary.

John Terry gives his all for country (WAG issues aside). That’s a player I want on the pitch.

In the end, I don’t just want a win, I want a legendary match. Without John Terry, it’s one step down from that. IMO.

  10. I am with Mexicanbluefish. I want to beat Englands best.

Is there anyway to figure out if this is the most injury plagued world cup? I know we have had injuries bbefore like Armas in 02 Heyduke(sp) in 06 Reyna in 94. But this just seems like every week there is another player who is getting injured and may miss the WC.

  11. Yes, but that Still means that Ferdinand is in the lineup, and he’s never paired with King. The smartest choice would be the Dawson, King combo which drove Spurs into the top four. But Capello is unlikely to see it that way, and the defense is therefore as unstable as we could hope for.

  12. This isn’t necessarily a good development for the US. Ledley king is arguably in better form than terry right now anyway, so he could ably deputize on june 12.

But since king can’t (or at least doesn’t very often) play multiple games in a week, england would be left with their fourth choice center back for algeria.

So worst-case scenario, we lose to a top english side, then algeria steals points against a weakened side.

  13. This is fantastic. If he misses the world cup and travels with the team, the England players will be completely distracted as JT trolls the WAG section of the stadium hitting on all their wives and girlfriends. They’ll be too worried about JT cuckolding them to concentrate on the football.

  14. I’ll contain my joy until June 12th.. still a long way to go and this will be a lot less enjoyable if someone like Landon goes down before then. Obviously great news for US fans though 🙂

  15. Not to be too much of a hater, but I really hope England implode. Has anyone heard anything about Rooney’s injury status lately? It would be huge if both he and Terry missed the USA match.

At least English fans already have their excuse for when they Epic Fail this summer.
