Terry injured in training, broken foot NOT suspected (UPDATED)

John Terry (Reuters)

England national team defender John Terry suffered a foot injury in training with Chelsea on Wednesday and could be a doubt for the World Cup.

Terry underwent scans on his injured right foot, with a fractured metatarsal suspected to be the injury. If Terry does have a broken foot, he could wind up missing the World Cup. Results of the scans on Terry's foot are not expected until Thursday.

(UPDATE- Terry has issued a statement insisting that he hasn't broken his foot and that he is hopeful of playing in the FA Cup Final. The injury is now believed to be ligament damage.)

Terry just finished leading Chelsea to the English Premier League title, and was with his club preparing for the FA Cup Final when the injury occurred.

  1. I believe King played 3 games in 8 days recently, and was fine. Frankly, the only issue would be whether he meshes with Rio (who clearly will be starting). I agree that King has been in better form of late, I’m not so sure that Terry playing wouldn’t be better for the US.

Terry’s also one of the most likely candidates to get himself sent off and give the other team the man advantage, certainly more so than Ledley King is. Or in our case, even it up after one of our guys gets a bizarre red card for an offense that is barely even a foul.

  2. Terry will be at the WC. His leg will be pumped full of more drugs than the bunghole of a Colombian drug mule, but he will be there.
