The MLS Western Conference came into the 2010 season considered the stronger of the two conferences and Week Six of the season did nothing to change that opinion.
Western Conference teams were 3-0-3 against Eastern Conference opponents this week, with the Houston Dynamo, Los Angeles Galaxy and Real Salt Lake all showing why they're playoff favorites.
The New York Red Bulls kept up their winning ways, matching last season's win total after just six matches, while D.C. United's struggles continued as Curt Onalfo's club dropped to 0-5.
Here is a recap of the past weekend's MLS action:
D.C. United 0, New York Red Bulls 2
D.C. showed some signs of life in the first half, but fell apart in the second half. Juan Pablo Angel enjoyed his best game of the season, which could be bad news for future Red Bull opponents.
New England Revolution 1, FC Dallas 1
Revs did well to hold on despite having two players sent off. Dallas played well for stretches, but once again failed to finish when it counted.
Chicago Fire 1, Chivas USA 1.
Fire continue track record of struggling at home while Chivas USA scored precious road point to show Martin Vasquez's team has some life.
Houston Dynamo 3, Kansas City Wizards 0
Luis Landin and Dom Oduro played arguably their best matches as Dynamo players. The Wizards were done in by the early red card, but were already trailing at that point.
San Jose Earthquakes 1, Colorado Rapids 0
Rapids played well, but couldn't find the net, while San Jose impressed defensively despite playing without Ike Opara.
Real Salt Lake 2, Toronto FC 1
A rejuvenated Andy Williams sparked the RSL attack, while TFC paid the cost for its mid-week win vs. Montreal by starting out with several key starters.
Seattle Sounders 1, Columbus Crew 1
Freddie Ljungberg just can't finish his chances, while Crew defense rues early goal it gave up.
Los Angeles Galaxy 3, Philadelphia Union 1
Edson Buddle does it again, scoring two and assisting on the third. As for Philadelphia, it never really stood a chance as Peter Nowak is reminded that his team needs several upgrades.

Two words for you Josh: Ownership change
As a Seattle fan it was a dissappointing draw, but I overall I thought it was an entertaining game from both sides. Columbus has been one of the few teams that have tried to come in and play some form of attacking soccer. Granted not all out, but not just sending two guys forward.
Only negative, for all the diving calls that everyone claims Montero does (which he does), Scholetto(sp) should be added to that list as well. At least from what I saw on Saturday.
My thoughts from row 2 at RFK:
1. I hate summer games.
2. Cristman was great as the target man.
3. Lindpere is a beast.
4. Perkins was high.
5. Red Bulls traveling fans were great.
The summer transfer window can’t come soon enough. Even though DC shot themselves in the foot by not spending any money in the offseason. 2 goals for and 13 against is ridiculous.
Need a poacher indeed but better than needing a whole team like my DC….

8 games on Saturday and only 1 of them on TV. =/ My cable company no longer offers Direct Kick, so I’m screwed. I don’t get FSCHD either… man, I miss those days w/ the HDNET games.

Cheers to that! We want Brad Evans back!! That said, nice to see the Crew get points after being being down again. Their never say die attitude is what has kept them strong these past years.
If Bouna keeps playing well, they probably won’t make any moves in that area, and the rest of their defense is pretty much set so they should definitely look into attackers. Their is an exciting list of players out their that may be available for them after WC. If the buzz turns into big signings, RBNY will be a serious contender. If LA signs someone big as well, which they could, it could be clash of the titans in MLS.
I’m looking for a little more spark in the center midfield from the Crew. I’ve always liked Moffat, but I think a long term solution is to move Gaven to the middle and to slot Ekpo on the right. Moffat is too direct a player for me and simply isn’t providing what Brad Evans did for us in 2008. I’m disappointed Danny O picked up another silly red, and I’m not entirely sure the second yellow was warranted. It’s too bad that he is putting himself in those spots because he has played extremely well at left back. I’m also glad to see Lenhart grab a nice goal. Overall I’ll take a point in Seattle, and I hope we can get Marshall, Padula, and Ekpo healthy.
Henry seems like the best bet at this point
I’m anxious to see who NYRB bring in as DP’s as well.
Know they won’t be able to resist the big name signing, but sure hope they use one of those slots on a young player they can sell on at some point.
Not too worried about the West yet…just waiting for RBNY to use some DP slots on some major talent…not saying the team isnt talented
