Are you heading to the World Cup?

WorldCupLogo

A week from today I will be boarding a plane for South Africa, where I will attend my third straight World Cup. It will be an exciting time to say the least, not just because of the new continent I will get to see, but also because of the great soccer that awaits and the great fans I know I'll see from all over the world.

As the days count down until my trip I couldn't help but wonder how many SBI readers will have the good fortune of making the trip as well. I know the United States leads the way among countries sending fans to the World Cup, but it's tough to really get a sense of just how many people are making the lengthy trek.

So if you are an SBI reader and you are heading to South Africa. Let us know. Tell us where you are from, and tell us about the trip you have planned.

  1. I will be outside the stadium for the opening game, taking a camper up to Rustenburg for USA v England with a friend. We’ll head to Kruger and then Durban. In Durban we’ll see Netherlands play Japan before returning to Johannesburg to see Ivory Coast take on Brazil.

Ives, will you be taking in the fan’s view in Rustenburg or up in the press booth? American fooligans are organizing a meet-up before the game, check twitter.

    See ya there!

  2. Hey now, that child she’s carrying will be our #10 in the 2030 WC in Italy and the 2034 WC in Argentina … and setting you up w/ tkts to both.

Seriously though, have a great time. I hope you enjoy watching the USMNT’s African Lion hunting safari … I understand there’s a 3-bag limit.

  3. My two sons (13 and 17) and I are going along with the coach of the older boy’s Manhattan Soccer Club team. We’ll see three R16s, two 1/4 finals, and a semi — all won in the lottery a year and a half ago. Get to Jo’burg on 6/26, then onto CT, Port Elizabeth and Durban. We leave 7/12, the day after the final. Allows us to meet cousins we’d never met before.

    We are really getting excited!

  10. I wont be able to go this year but am targeting 2014 as my first world cup.

A suggestion, Before all of you watch the US v England game try to watch The Game of Their Lives if you havnt seen it yet. If you have watch it again, it really gets you fired up for the game.

hope everyone has a safe and fun trip to SA

  15. Got tickets to all of the USA games, through the semifinals (if they make it). Also lucked out in the lottery with TST-6 tickets for Brazil.

In addition to the drunken revelry and soccer madness, I’m stoked to see my first North Korean. But, rumor has it that in order to avoid the embarrassment of mass defections N.Korea is “importing” Chinese people to pose as Koreans…

  16. I am from California and I will be attending all of the USA games. I also plan to catch 8 other games. This will be my 5th World Cup and I am so very grateful for the opportunity to be there! This blog has become my favorite source of information for news about the US team and MLS. From top to bottom, soccer in America has never been as accessible as it is today. It’s everywhere! U-S-A!

Matter of fact, can someone put me in touch with that “attorney”?
