Portland Timbers unveil new crest

By AVI CREDITOR

Just days after the Vancouver Whitecaps unveiled their new crest, the other soon-to-be Major League Soccer franchise in the Pacific Northwest has done the same.

The Portland Timbers revealed their new logo over the weekend, one that has an evolved look from the USSF Division 2 side's current one.

Here's a video produced by the team that celebrates the franchise's history and eventually shows the new crest (fast forward to the 2:44 mark):

What do you think of the new look for Portland? Excited for the Northwest rivalries to reach the MLS stage?

  2. I WAY prefer this one to what was unveiled. I still don’t like the white, just wish they kept to two colors, just green and yellow whatever that is.

  3. I wasn’t sure why I felt so strongly about this either. I do like the new logo, but I guess I also hate it because the old one was my favorite crest in all of US Soccer. It just had a nice look to it. I even loved the font used on the old one, and especially the two-tone colors, I don’t like the use of black and white for shadowing at all on the new one, or the fact that it is not a circle anymore.

  4. Yeah, I don’t like the white, i like the two tone green and yellow better. I guess the marketing execs need something that “pops”.

  5. I think the design is a good one. Unfortunately I thought the old one was FREAKIN AWESOME!!!! i guess people always have to mess with a good thing don’t they. Why can’t we just leave things alone sometimes. Oh wait, I work for the government, I should know better. It is all about someone getting paid to fix something that was never broken because in our society things can always be improved right? WRONG, anyone remember the new COKE in the 80’s? Sometimes people just want a damn COKE, the same old damn COKE they always had.

Again, I like the new design, I just don’t get people’s obsession with changing stuff for the sake of change.

  6. its not about stealing european crests. they already had a crest with history and fans that loved it. And theres nothing wrong with computer generated design, but its just a bad design, computer or no.

  7. It’s a Arena Football league logo. Not surprised. Look who designed the logo. They designed the Columbus Blue Jacket logo. It’s a shame that for a team that has done everything right, the missed badly on this.

  8. also, whose idea was the color change? I can just imagine a seattle-portland game; a ravey-mossy goopy green mess. brilliant.

  9. i’d say my problem with logos like these is the “look how ferocious and edgy we are” appearance. I like the whitecaps new one, but this, not so much.

  11. That is a great video!

The new logo? Really? Wow hope the Portland team did not pay full price for that design work. Another cartoon logo to add in the crap pile of MLS designs.

  12. This is a case where, if it’s not broke, don’t fix it. Old crest was fine and just right. This one is okay, but very disappointing that it was changed.

  13. Holy crap, soccer … err… football fans forbid that a team use modern technology to create a modern logo. If it doesn’t look like it was drawn in the early 1900s without the aid of a computer most of you turn it down. We shoud all just steal EPL and La Liga crests and give them a name and color change.
